Hello, I have been looking all over for info on my grandparants and my husband found this a few minutes ago. It was posted in the Missourian on November 4, 1963.

The name Brewer was spelled wrong in all instances so I have no idea how he found it. But for those interested, here you go.

My name is Tammy Spradling, by the way. Daughter of Billie Ray Bewer, grand daughter of Porter and Janie Brewer.

Oldham: Mary Elizabeth Oldham, Sarah Oldham and her son Franklin Oldham

I am still searching for Oldhams that were living with Alexander E Brown in the 14th Civil District, according to the 1880 census. Sarah Oldham was listed as "sister-in-law" and her son Franklin was listed as "Nephew." This has lead me to assume that Alexander's wife, Mary Elizabeth was also an Oldham. (Somewhere in family talk, I also heard the name Odum). Any information on Oldham's or Brown's of Weakley county would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks, not sure who is still following this, but I have been trying for so long to find any and all information I can think of. Since the mid 80s I think. I seem to find bits and pieces and then lose touch again.

Anyway.... my name is Tammy Mayrene (Brewer) Spradling.

My dad and I weren't very close so I have little to NO information, I was closer to my uncles when I was younger than I was to my dad.

My dad was Billie Ray Brewer, the youngest son of Porter and Janie, and he has 3 children, myself, my brother Jeffrey Brewer and Lee Brewer.

I once found the death certificates for Porter and Janie, but I can't find them now.

Anyway, I have learned more on this forum than I have on anything thusfar and I so appreciate all of you for doing this. I know most likely no one will be seeing this, but in the hopes you will. I want NEED as much information as I can get.

I cannot teach my kids about their family if I don't know it myself. I am extremely family oriented, but things weren't always like this, my immediate family didn't feel the same way i did about family, sadly. :(

If anyone has access to the 1830 Weakley Co. TN Census, could you please look-up John SIMMONS. I'm trying to find out if he and his family were in Weakley Co. in 1830. In the 1840 Weakley Co. Census there are two heads of household named John SIMMONS, one old enough to be the other one's father. The younger one is my great-grandfather. I'm hoping to find the older John in the 1830 census with a 16 yr old son (my great-grandfather). Thanks very much for any help.

Brenda

If it is at all possible for us to work on the cemetery this year, I'd be pleased to notify you of the date, if you send email address, although you are not able to come. How are you related to the Connells? I live in Tupelo, MS about 165 miles away, but I grew up around Sharon. The Connell cemetery is less than 1/2 mile from a small farm we have on the Sharon/Sidonia road.

I wish to correct some of what I wrote earlier. I find that the 1830 John & Thomas twins bc 1804 are probably the sons of Samuel Fowler bc 1783 SC. However Bullard A. Fowler is probably from a different branch of the John to VA in 1653 Fowler Family. In the House of Fowler book by Grover Fowler, there are not enough children given. Many names are still missing. John I> Godfrey I> Joseph > had Wm. & Bullard. I think he could be off either of these fathers. I will be glad to send you more detail on that if you want to send me your email. The attachment is 8 pages at this time. Becky at byroot@yahoo.com or Becky Root on Ancestry.
In 1850, B. Saddler, p 238 lived closest to W. H. Fowler, 44 b NC. p237, who lives closest to J., I think is Jason Fowler 78 b NC, p 234. I did a careful search of the House of Fowler book. I have some ideas, but Jason is not listed in that book. I will be glad to share my speculations if you contact me. I don't know how to make a file for this form.

I believe he married a Emily "Ann" Hoggard (Haggard)in 1852 in Weakley County. They had three children born in Weakley County. James Byas, Alice C. and Alma Ann. A biography on Alma's husband states that Henry Jones died in 1861 and was an "extensive planter in Weakley County". I believe his full name was Elbert Henry Jones.

Does anyone know if there are death records for 1860's in this area?

He left Weakley County for Texas in 1880. I believe but have not facts, that his father was James H Wyatt (b 1828 possible KY) married Sarah Laswell. I have little information on James but much on the Lasswells and Crossers so more information on the Wyatts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am a descendant of the Dunlaps of Weakley and Henry Cos. My g-grandmother was Willie Beatrice Dunlap [Hicks], dau. of John Elmore Dunlap, son of Silas Dunlap, son of Moses Dunlap. Moses moved his family to Henry Co., TN from Christian Co., KY ca. 1830s. I realize this is an older post, but I would love to see any information you have learned about the Dunlaps if you are still online. Thank you. --April

The following information was sent to me quite some time ago, but I can't tell you who shared it. So, use this information as a research tool, but verify everyting in it, or you might get thrown off the proper research track, okay?

"Early Weakley County, TN Harveys originated in Currituck Co., North Carolina. The first Harvey who moved to Currituck County was also one of the first to get a Grant in that county. By 1663 John Harvey received 600 acres in a Grant.) Thomas Harvey, and Thomas and Elizabeth Harvey Etheridge came from Currituck in 1833 to Weakly Co., TN. A Benjamin Waterfield married a Betsey Harvey (1785-1861) before 1807 in Currituck County, NC I believe. Betsey was the daughter of Thomas Harvey, and they also moved to Weakley Co. TN.) Thomas Harvey (1750-1845) was the son of Mark Harvey. Thomas was a tailor by trade, he made clothing for soldiers during the War of 1776 and is listed as a Patriot. He and his wife, Ann Elizabeth Taylor Harvey, were the parents of Elizabeth Harvey-Etheridge and Polly Harvey. Thomas was married a second time to Siniah Ansel, and perhaps a third time to an unknown woman. He had another daughter, Betsy, who married Benjamin Waterfield in NC and after his death, moved to TN as told by the great-great-great granddaughter of Thomas Harvey, Mary Thomas Burton Dennis.

There is only one other HARVEY in the Mount Vernon cemetery (Weakley Co., TN) where Thomas is buried and that is MARY POLLY HARVEY 1788 - 1857, daughter of Thomas Harvey who apparently never married.

NOTE: Mount Vernon Cemetery is located about three miles west of Sharon, TN. The first time Mount Vernon cemetery was mentioned was in 1850 in a quarterly conference record. The cemetery is located on four acres of land Wesley and Harvey Waterfield (brothers) donated for a Methodist Church and a public cemetery. Their sister Maragaret Waterfield was the first person buried there in 1845. Their Grandfather Thomas Harvey was buried there the same year."

Someone else sent me info on this Thomas Harvey, again I can't identify the person, but use this, again, as a springboard for your research and see what you come up with.

""p. 380 (of what??): THOMAS HARVEY AND THOMAS ETHERIDGE: On Nov. 6, 1832, Thomas Etheridge and his nephew, Caleb Etheridge, both of Currituck Co., NC, purchased 3240 acres for $2450 in three tracts southwest of what is now Sharon in Weakley Co., TN: two tracts on the north side of the middle fork of the Obion River and the third south of the river and later owned b the Enoch Brock family. A levee with bridges linked these farms and even now is called Etheridge Levee Road. Later Caleb took the track south of Sidonia, TN which is now owned by the U.S. Government.

According to family records, Thomas Etheridge (1792-1861) was the son of James and Mary (Williams) Etheridge and the grandson of Willis and Grace (Fanshaw) Etheridge. Willis, a Baptist minister, served in the 1780 Carolina Senate and witnessed a document in SC in 1785 as Public Registrar. Thomas Etheridge had seven siblings: Caleb, Andrew, James, Jr., Mary, Salllie, Ann and Ether. Mary (who married a Baxter) and Sallie (who married Enoch Brock) also came to Weakley Co. END OF ARTICLE

Currituck County, NC, Heritage Book, p. 439, p. 264: ___listed as a Patriot. He and his wife, Ann Elizabeth Taylor Harvey, were the parents of Elizabeth Harvey Etheridge and Polly Harvey. Thomas was married a second time, to Siniah Ansel, and perhaps a third time. He had another daughter, Betsy, who married Benjamin Waterfield in NC and, after his death, came to TN. She was a weaver.

Thomas Etheridge, his older sons, and some negro men came to Tennessee in the spring of 1833 and built a two-story house on his property, facing the levee road and near a spring. For protection from fire, the kitchen was some distance from the house. That October he returned to Currituck and accompanied his family on the five week journey to Tennessee. The family included his wife, Elizabeth harvey Etheridge (1792-1861), and their eight children: James, Thomas Harvey, Emerson, Willis, Daniel, Ben, Mary Elizabeth and Ann. Their ninth child, Enoch Brock Etheridge, was born after their arrival, on Christmas Day, 1833. They were also accompanied by Elizabeth's father, the above-mentioned Thomas Harvey, 83 years old, and her sister Polly. Thomas Harvey lived to be 95 and he and Polly made their home in the Etheridge household as long as they lived."
