Bathsheba was my g-g-g-grandmother. My notes say she died in 14 Oct 1852 in Carroll Co., TN. I found her in the 5th civil district of Carroll Co., TN in 1850. She is 66 years old living in the home of Elizabeth B. Harris, age 55; Thomas L. Harris, age 21; Virginia F. Harris, age 16; Susan M. Harris, age 13; and Bathsheba, age 66. I haven't been able to place who Elizabeth B. Harris is yet. Hope this helps. I have never seen info as to where she is buried.

Looking for any information on McNeelys in Weakley county Tennessee. Specifically Anslum/Anslem McNeely/McNeilly. He is listed in the 1860 Weakley county census as living in District 1. His occupation was Baptist minister. He left Tennessee sometime between 1860 and 1870. I believe that his father may have been Michael McNeely, born between 1790 and 1800 in Kentucky. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Lauren

I'm search for a link to Elizabeth Crow born in Tennessee around 1832. She married a John Orsburn who was born around 1820. She left Tennessee and moved to Kentucky. She and John had at least one daughter, Frances who is my great-great grandmother. I've hit a dead end looking for any information on Elizabeth. It's believed she was an american indian. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Weakley County Cemeteries Vol II, indicates that the "Old Hill" or "Pointer Cemetery" consists of about 10 - 12 graves covering an area of about a quarter acre. The book doesn't show any ADAMS family members buried there. There are Roberts, Jones, Chandler, Milner, Everett and Pointers buried there.
Jim Griffin

I wish to correct some of what I wrote earlier. I find that the 1830 John & Thomas twins bc 1804 are probably the sons of Samuel Fowler bc 1783 SC. However Bullard A. Fowler is probably from a different branch of the John to VA in 1653 Fowler Family. In the House of Fowler book by Grover Fowler, there are not enough children given. Many names are still missing. John I> Godfrey I> Joseph > had Wm. & Bullard. I think he could be off either of these fathers. I will be glad to send you more detail on that if you want to send me your email. The attachment is 8 pages at this time. Becky at byroot@yahoo.com or Becky Root on Ancestry.
In 1850, B. Saddler, p 238 lived closest to W. H. Fowler, 44 b NC. p237, who lives closest to J., I think is Jason Fowler 78 b NC, p 234. I did a careful search of the House of Fowler book. I have some ideas, but Jason is not listed in that book. I will be glad to share my speculations if you contact me. I don't know how to make a file for this form.

Good luck. If you want the exact death date, you might want to order the military service record of Sims - that record should give his exact death date. If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to get that record in Nashville at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. There might even be a pension record for his spouse, if married. That would come from Washington, I believe, and would also give his death date as well as other genealogical info not available in his military service record.

If you get a chance, visit the McGavock Cemetery - nestled in the Tennessee countryside, beautiful setting with the plantation home a few yards away. Definitely worth a trip to see the gravesite and surrounding area.

I Thank you so much. The William M. Sims you have found has got to be my Willian V. Sims both being Captains in the 31Reg and both from Tennessee. This then means that the death date of 1861 in the family records should be Nov. 1864

Thanks Again Ken. sawdust48@zoominternet.net

The Battle of Franklin was November 30, 1864. The McGavock Confederate Cemetery is located just outside Franklin on the Carnton Plantation beside the McGavock Family Cemetery (www.carnton.org). This Carnton Plantation was in the thick of battle and became a hospital for injured and dying soldiers. Col. John McGavock donated two acres of land adjoining the family graveyard for the soldiers' burial. Carrie McGavock, wife of Colonel John McGavock, maintained the Book of the Dead attempting to identify each deceased soldier, giving families of soldiers an opportunity to pay their respects. The soldiers, approximately 1,480, are buried by states.

In glancing through one of the publications I purchased while visiting the Confederate Cemetery, I find a Capt. W. M. Sims of Tennessee of Reg. 31 buried in Tennessee Section No. 53. This is the only Sims I find in the Tennessee section. Could this possibly be the person you're seeking?

He cannot be found in TN in 1850 or 1860. It appears he is not related to the other Speed family there at the time. I have found other families that were supposedly indian on the census prior to the war in other TN counties. Can anyone shed some light on these Speeds?

Thanks for the tips. I did get the death certificate, but unfortunately it does not mention his parents names. Apparently he applied for a civil war pension but I don't believe it was ever awarded. Do you know if parent names are included in the applications? Where ddo you obtain these records from?

Thanks again for your reply.

Melody

I am trying to find the parentage of James B. Jones. He was born and raised in Weakley Count, Tenn. Birthdate was around 1849. I see Darling and Margaret had a son named James who was the right age for my James. Do you know much about the family? I'm wondering if this is my James.

James B. Jones is my 3rd Gr. Grandfather. Apparently he ran away from home @ 14 yrs of age to join a confederate regiment he encountered in Mississippi.

He married Rebecca Dudley in 1872 in Weakley County. They ended up on Oklahoma where he died in 1936.

The only concrete finding is a 1910 Craighead Ark census with your great grandmother, Della Ross,, widowed, with son Homer, age two, with her father
listed as Mitch/Welch Stephens, born 1848-Va, also widowed.

I have found nothing else concrete to base any findings.

Nothing on the Craig household.

did find two possibles...
One 1860 Weakley TN census, showing a Wilson Stephens age 16 with widowed father E.P Stephens, age 49 with older brother and younger brothers.

Then someone has a partial unsubstatiated family tree showing Wilson being born 1848-Va, Halifax Co va
with parents William G. Stephens, 1806, Halifax, Va and mother
Elizabeth George, 1812- Halifax va,
marriage 1828-Halifax Va

not finding a 1880 census which would be wonderfl! with the Stephens household in TN or ArK.

nothing yet found on Mary Craig...

you did mention your Josa Della married John Franklin Ross.. which holds up with the 1910 census as she being a widow with the surname Ross....child age 2 named Homer

I did find where Homer ross died 1995 in Craighead Ark.

Thanks for your kind words. I hope you clicked on all the hyperlinks. Especially the sources that were Cemetery Markers. I've been to Weakley County 3 times in the last 2 years and have snapped a lot of tombstones. Also, where possible, I have plotted the locations on maps, so be sure to click on the locations as well.

I would love to have the info that you so kindly volunteered, especially photos.

By the way, I do not have any documentation that Felix and Archibald were brothers, but I am deducing that fact from the listing in the Occupancy Register. It's also possible they were cousins or father and son.

Even though I'm not sure of that relationship, we must be Peery cousins since supposedly all the Peerys came from the original 5 Peery brothers that emigrated from Scotland/Ireland/Great Britain in the 1600's.

Joe Peery
