Trying to find out info on Allen Salts and Sarah J. Erwin of Dist. 17, Campbells or Cherry Grove, Washington Co. TN.
Campbells could be Bowmantown. Allen had a son Andrew J. Salts who was my grandma's Mary Emma Salts father. She married my grandpa William L Smith. Allen was born around 1816 in Wash. Co. TN. I believe his parents were Henry Salts and Mary (Braun) Brown. Allen was a farmer and was listed in tax lists 1847-49. Allen and Sarah J. Erwin applied for marriage license in Wash. Co. TN at the courthouse on 31 May 1841. They were married by W. Milburn, Minister of Gospel, Uriel Methodist Church, Jonesborough, Washington Co. TN on July 4, 1841.
(Wash. Co. Marriage Licenses 1780-1870). But, the spelling is Salls. I wonder if he or Sarah could read or write. Sarah was a housewife they had 11 children. Sarah is found in 1850 census. I do not know who her parents were. 1860 Census finds Allen & Sarah living at Campbells (Bowmantown) on Big Limestone Creek, Dist. #17, Wash. Co. TN. 1870 census finds Allen & Sarah still living in Dist. #17, but at Cherry Grove, Wash. Co. TN. Both, Allen (64) & Sarah (59) died in 1880 at Dist. #17, Wash. Co. TN. I don't know where they are buried, but assume on their property or in Campbells or Cherry Grove. Also, trying to find out if his parents were Henry Salts and Mary (Braun) Brown. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated
