Since my last posting on Oct. 25, 04. I have gotten some additional information, if anyone can help I appreciate all I can get. I am searching for Info on my great-grandparents, James Thurman Turner and Hettie Imogene Smith Turner, this couple lived and raised 5 children in Union and Knox Co. Tn. I have found out that James died in Aug. 1954 and he and his wife are buried at Milan Baptist Church in Union Co. I have also found out that James had atleast three brother's and two sister's, George, John, and Samuel Turner and Mary and Mandy or Amanda I do not know who the sister's married or if they married at all, in addition to this information I found out there are two nephew's possibly still living in Union Co. they are brother's, Marvin and Lee Turner. I would appreciate any information on this line of Turner's.

I'm looking for the parents of or any information I can get on the following: Willis Asbury Turner and Malinda Jane Hill. They were married October 31, 1880.Also Isaac Newton Russell and Isabell(Izzy) Strevel(spelled Strevil on their marriage record. They were married November 13, 1879. They are the parents of Hiram Taylor Russell and Alda Madra Turner Russell(my grandparents) who were married on April 14, 1917.What info. They were all married and are buried in Union County and as far as I know they were all born in Union County. The only birth dates I know are Hiram's and Alda's. I believe Hiram is a decendant of Joseph Russell from Augusta County, Virginia. I am desperately looking for info. on all of their families.

Thank you, Brenda Oody

James W. Turner b.1805 VA.

The results from the Turner DNA test that I took are in.
We have some more info and we can get more if more will take the test. You have to be a direct male from James W. to get the results. The results are posted on a free site as follows: freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~turnerdna/
The group I'm in is the Olive Green group and my test number is 118100/
I encourage all who are researching this Turner line to help each other and find some Turner's that would do the DNA test. Should anyone have any info on a brother or brother's to James W. that would be very helpful. Thank You in advance Walter Turner

(Mainly Rhea Co, Union & Grainger & Anderson Co, TN.
I have been searching for years for information about James J Young who married Sarah Smith daughter of Josiah and Martha Clemmons Smith of Union County .
Sarah Smith b. 1881 Union County. She was the second wife of James J Young. Her sister Martha married him first but died soon after the birth of a son. She probably died in childbirth. James J Young was born in 1861 Clay County Ky.
This i nformation is acccording to his death certificate. However I can find nothing at all of him prior to 1910 when he and Sarah and children were living in Brown Creek Mcowell County WV. In 1920 They lived in Perry County Ky. He died in 1927. Some of their children were born in TN.
This James J Young is my husband grandfather. Oddly enough no on in the family knows much about him. My husbands father is dead as well as all aunts and uncles. If anyone can help with this it would be so greatly appreciated.

JOHAN SEBASTIAN MICHAEL GRAFF was born in Germany in 1702 and lived to a ripe old age of 102 when he died in Union County, Tennessee (1804). He had 8 children...all of whom changed the surname to GRAVES. My question is...who is his wife??? I have her pencilled in as a COBLE...but I am not confident. Would really appreciate a lookup in Union County for the death records of Mr Graff and his mystery spouse.

Hi, I'm looking for more information about my East Tennessee ancestors, as well as current family still living in the area. My father was Charles Olan ROBINSON, Jr., b. 1926 in Harriman, TN. His mother was Bonnie Pauline DEVANEY, b. 22 Mar, 1910 in Tennessee, and his father was Charles Olan ROBINSON, b. abt. 1903, perhaps in North Carolina. I have some information on the DEVANEY's (could always use more), but nothing on the ROBINSON's. My father was an only child, but I do not know about his father. Thanks.

I am so happy to hear from anyone making inquiries about this family. I was beginning to think that there wasn't anyone out there! I Have done quite alot of research on these two, especialy the Nelsons. Marcus was b. in North Carolina. He was illigitmate. My mother & I found this info in several court records in Liccoln Co NC now Catawba. When Marcus was about 13 yrs of age His Father John Smith(b.1809 in Lincoln co NC, John died in 1851.) claims him as his child. Johns brother in law also put up bond for the child.
Elizabeth Henly Nelson was the dau. of John Nelson & Lucinda Lisenby. John Nelsons 2nd wife was Nancy Whitson. Johns father, William Nelson b abt 1770 d. 19 Jul 1837 according to an affidavit from his 2nd wife Sarah Owens. first wife is unknown to me. I am trying to find a connection between William & a possible father, Southway Nelson. Have you heard of him?

I have two questions, one does anyone know where William Yadon of Union Co., or Grainger Co., is buried and the date of his death the closest I have is around 1880. Two, David Yadons' wife was Nancy Williams and her father was William Williams but his wifes' maiden name is not know, but I think maybe it could be Calloway. David and Nancy named one of son with the middle name of Calloway and I have found serval others with that middle name directly decended from them

I am looking for information on my family. My maiden name is Ellison and my family has traced us back to three brother's who moved from N.Caroline about 1797. I believe that their father's name might have been James but one of the three brother's was named James and was born in 1780.
This James was my great great great great grandfather. He was married to a Susannah Ausmus. I have heard that some can trace us back to the McAllister clan from Scotland.
James has a grandson named Berry who was born in1836. This Berry was married at Lost Creek, Union County by a Reverend Williams. He had three children before he joined the Union Army in Union County. Any help on this line or the Ellison's Part in the Civil War would be WONDERFUL.
Write please.
Melissa :-)

William George was listed on the corpse transfer form I have for James Calloway George as being born in TN, so to find the family in 1860 we probably don't need to go far.
James had 4 boys with Lourelda Cotton an Indian, he died and left her with the boys and other children she had from previous marriages, the George family tried to take the boys from her because they had money because they owned that stor in Knoxville, so Lourelda said no and the boys had to drop out of school and go to work to support the family, so my grandfather was a coal miner in Kentucky until my mom was 16 and they headed for the shipyards in Florida, where she still lives today.
James' boys were:
William Pearl George, Hobart Nimrod George, Charley and Gillis.
Both families disowned them for a while because he was Jewish and married an Indian and her because she was Indian and married a Jew!

Louis Atkins Family in Union/Grainger Co. Tenn./Virg/KY

I am trying to get information about a Louis/Lewis Atkins who was born in Va. on May 5, 1785 but married Elizabeth Monroe in Granger Co. Tenn. in 1804. All I've read is that he is from Virginia and possibly had a brother Richard, who migrated to Missouri and nothing else. I would like more info on his ancestors.

Also his son Elige b May 4, 1814 who was married to Elizabeth Mullens, had a son named William "Arch"(er?)Atkins around 1849 who married Sarah Catherine Booker in Union Co. Tenn. Some sources say she remarried to a Jasper Hickle around 1800. Others say she married Jasper before William Arch. I know that she and Willim "Arch"(er?) had four children---Cordeala b 1871 m A. J. Frost, Mary Ann b 1873 m W. E. Hickle, Gidion Frank b 1875 and William Archie 1877. I also have read that Sarah had two daughters by Jasper Hickle. They are reported to be Laura R. Hickle b Jun 1880 and Margie M. Hickle b Jan 1883 all in Union Co. Tenn but I can't say this info is correct because of the discrepancy in the order of the marriages. I have no idea what happened to the two girls from this Hickle union nor do I know what happened to the two girls from the Atkins union except they were married. I know that Gidion Frank and William Archie migrated to Lincoln Co., KY and this is where their family is today. Gidion Frank is my Great Grandfather.

While the dates above make me believe that William Arch was still in Union Co. when Sara supposedly married Jasper, I'm not sure. Did he die and if so where is he buried? I have no information on what happened to William Arch (er?)Atkins, Jasper Hickle or Sarah Catherine Booker or their daughters. It's like they just disappeared. If anyone has any information on the people I have listed above I would appreciate it if you would share. I have lots of info to exchange also if any one wants it. Thanks.

Mary Atkins Zwahlen
Kentucky

I am researching a branch of my husband's family. I have Ulysess S Grant Pruitt (1889-1976) who married Ida Mae Tutt (1892-1963). They were married 1908 in Union County, and some of their children were born in Union (others in Webster Co.). Their children include: Unknown Infant (b/d. bet 1908-1910), Twins Admiral Dewey and Ulysses (b. Sep 10, 1911, Ulysses died the next day), Flora Belle (b. Oct 22, 1913), Luella (b. Oct 12, 1915), Ruby May (b. Mar 19, 1918), John Ross (b. Mar 23, 1921), Iclico (sp?) (b. Jan 8, 1923, d. bef. 1930), Mary Jane (b. Aug 18, 1924), Arvel (b. Aug 18, 1927), and James Richard (b. Nov 18, 1932). There is information on other children, but these are the ones I could find the most concrete information on.

Ulysses S Grant Pruitt is the son of Jiles (Giles) M Pruitt and Susan Williams. I have limited information on his parents. Ida Mae Tutt is the daughter of Benjamin F Tutt and Margaret Amanda Farmer. I have a little more info on her family.

I am interested in either ancestors or descendants on either side to add to my tree.

Blessings,
Abigail Beth (Cooley) Shanks

We just moved backto TN a year ago started researching the old TVA cemetery located in Chuck Swan Wildlife Managment Area

Very suprized the ones we found are in good repair. Have pictures of Mt. Olive and the two Bridges cemetery locations. If anyone plans a visit do not go after a rain....the road are OK but dirt/gravel and some off roads you need a truck or just walk. Clear Creek road is in very poor condition.

I will be posting my pictures on my web page by the end of the month and plan to make another trip in a month or so.

My husbands family is Bridges, Flatford, Hill, Heatherly, Wright, Foust, Snodderly have a lot of land and family history on them.
I am searching for a John Clemons, who married Nancy Ellison in Union County, Tennessee in 1854. She was nearly twenty years younger than he. After 1858 John had fathered 3 daughters and no other record can be found about him. He may have come from Augusta, Wythe, Fincastle, or one of the bordering Virginia counties to Tennessee, or he may have been born in Tennessee. I am also looking in Laurens, North Carolina and South Carolina. I have no idea of which Clements, Clemons, Clemins, Clemmons family he came from, so if anyone has a John Clemons, whose mother may have been named Francis, or Fanny, please contact me. I have been searching for him for 7 years with no success.
Brenda

I am particularly interested in one of their daughters Sarah Smith. I believe she married James J Young from my line. He first married her sister Martha, she died but I dont know when. Then he married Sarah sometime around 1905. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I know of three children that Robert and Sarah had (Martha, Florence and Henry). Robert and Sarah's daughter Martha was my great-grandmother. Martha's first husband was Joseph Owens and at some point Martha & Joseph resided in Knox Co. Martha and Joseph's daughter, Pauline, was my grandmother. Martha later married Jim Corbin, I do not know what happened to Joseph Owens. Any information on any of these people would be greatly appreciated.

Trent - Collins Relationship

Can anyone help with the following?
Searching for the relationship of Jeremiah TRENT and Milley COLLINS: In the 1860 Union County, TN census: (all born in TN)
Jeremiah TRENT, age 40, daylabourer
Polly, age 60, home
Alamanda, age 31 (age was smeared but I believe it is 31) domestic
Milley COLLINS, age 8
Lovicy J. Seals, age 4

My great grandmother was Millie Collins and I haven't been able to find her in any census. She was from east TN area of Anderson, Campbell, Clairborne, Hancock, Hawkins , or Union County. She was married to (1) John FIELDS and (2) Lewis BOLDEN/BOLIN/BOWLIN that I know about but can find no records on. I don't have any birth, death or marriage dates on any of the above people. Millie and John FIELDS had the following children; Florence (1879?), Ed (1887?), Bird (1887), Cora (1891), and Milford (1892).
Millie divorced John (date unk) and married Lewis BOLDEN (date unk but around 1900). Lewis was evidently an abusive step father. Sometime around 1900, Bird, age 13 at the time, killed Lewis with an axe as he was drunk and beating on her brother Ed, who was crippled from an accident and couldn't defend himself. This happened in Hancock or Claiborne County I believe. Haven't found any record of this either. Family stories say she was real small and when they took her to jail for her own protection from Lewis' family, she slipped through the bars of the cell and went back home. I don't think she was ever charged with any crime.

Any help in proving any of this saga of relationships will be deeply appreciated.

Bob Leach bleach@rose.net
Thomasville, GA

James Needham, son of Henry and Anna Brock, was listed on the 1850 Grainger Co. TN census. Can't locate him in 1860 or 1870.

On the1880 Union Co. TN census pg 162 A is listed:
James Needham, 44, farmer, Aideby? 39 wife,
Nancy 19, Newton 17, John 14, Martina? 13 female,
Conner? 10 male, Porter 8, Tilden 3

He is also on the 1900 Union Co census.
From 1910 on he is living in Grainger county again.

Supposedly there were 11 children in this family.
Does anyone know the last name of his wife? On one census she is listed as Sibby P.

Any leads appreciated.

L
