Tracy,
I descend through Elizabeth "Betsy" Fry Campbell Davis. Below is some info. that might be helpful to you as well as to others:
The aunt of & living in household of David W Campbell, Betsy Davis, 99 yrs old, found in the 1920 Unicoi Co., TN Federal Census, was, I believe, Elizabeth "Betsy" Fry Campbell Davis.
"Betsy" Fry Campbell Davis [b. ca. 1825], dau. of Nicholas Fry [ca.1798-ca.1858] & Susannah Burns[ca.1801-aft,1900] m. 1st to Albert E Campbell [ca.1834-aft.1860 census] on 9 Nov 1852 in Carter Co., TN. Widowed, she m. 2nd to William Davis on 24 APR 1866. [Wm. Davis was the widower of Mary Elizabeth Woodby.]
ALBERT E CAMPBELL WAS THE BROTHER OF DAVID W CAMPBELL'S FATHER, WILLIAM C CAMPBELL. (Albert was possibly one of the "unnamed" who was killed in the Limestone Tragedy.)
Elizabeth C Campbell [b. ca. Oct 1858], dau. of Albert E Campbell & Elizabeth "Betsy" Fry & widow of James Davis DID NOT m. 2nd to William Birchfield as I have preivously posted elsewhere.
It was instead, Elizabeth C Campbell's mother-in-law, [James Davis' mother] Martha Gray, widow of Amos Davis, who m. 2nd. to William Birchfield. [Source: Handwritten notes by James Davis' granddaughter who was b. 1908.]
1860 TN Census:
Amos Davis 30, blacksmith; wife Martha 25, and children John 4, James 3 & unnamed dau. 1 mo.
1870 Carter Co., Limestone Cove,TN Census:
Amos' widow is found in 1870 as wife of
William Birchfield,32, Renter
Martha 29 [note, she hasn't aged but 4 years!!
James Davis, 13 yrs old.
Where are Martha's son John and unnamed dau. from 1860 census?
I have yet to locate a record of any marriage license for Martha Gray Davis & Wm. Birchfield.
