Horace Carson Anders, 73, 146 Kerns Street, Evergreen community, Erwin, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Hazen C. and Lenice Fletcher Anders.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Arkansas. Here he received the Victory World War II Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Medal and two stars.
He retired from the former Clinchfield Railroad following 26 years of service where he had worked in the accounting department in Erwin and later in Jacksonville, Fla. Following his retirement from Clinchfield Railroad, he was employed by Murray Guard at Nuclear Fuel Service, Inc., Erwin,retiring from there in 1989. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.
He was a charter member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church (formerly First Free Will Baptist Church) where he had served on the board of deacons for a number of years. Here he had served in various capacities, including Sunday school teacher. He was currently serving as teacher of the Mens' Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Gouge Anders; one daughter and son-in-law, Jamie Anders and Gaylon Foster, Erwin; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Suzanne Anders, Johnson City; one sister, Virginia Anders, Erwin; two grandchildren: Brandon Drew Anders and Mallory Lauren Foster; and several nieces and nephews.

ANDERS -- Funeral services for Horace Carson Anders, 73, 146 Kerns Street, Evergreen community, Erwin, who died Thursday were conducted at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2000 at Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church (formerly First Free Will Baptist Church). The Revs. Ronnie Adkins and Johnnie Floyd will officiate. Music will be provided by Josh and Christy Baer and by Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church Choir and will be under the direction of Josh Baer. The family received friends at Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church on Saturday from 6 p.m. until service time. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Evergreen Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be provided by Elizabethton V.F.W. Post #2166. Serving as pallbearers will be Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church deacons: Paul Whitson, Walter Harris, Warren Dunbar, Bob Grindstaff, Ricky Honeycutt, David Harris and Travis Lusk. Other pallbearers will be Jim Hensley and Jim Moore. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tom Beach, Scott Fowler and Gene Ramsey. Those attending the graveside services will meet at Valley Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday to go in procession to Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Program, C/O Gideon Memorial Bible Representative, P.O. Box 398, Erwin, TN 37650.
