Charlotte Likens, 66, 829 Ninth Street, Erwin, died Saturday, December 23, 2000.
Mrs. Likens was born in Unicoi County on July 15, 1934, a daughter of the late Garland and Ada Brown Hood. She was also preceded in death by a niece, Melinda Oakes.
Mrs. Likens had lived most of her life in Erwin. She was a public school music teacher for 30 years before retiring in 1994. She was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church, where she was currently serving as teacher of the Ruth Sunday School Class and had formerly served as Music Minister.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Likens; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Brenda Likens, Kingsport; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Keith Lavin, Bristol; a brother and sister-in-law, Garland and Judy Hood, Johnson City; a niece, Cheryl Hood, Johnson City; grandchildren., Lori Likens, Chris Likens, Cody Likens, Lydia Scheller and David Scheller; her father-in-law, P.O. Likens, and his wife, Thelma; and special friends, Dorothy Edwards, Bernice Brown and June Padgett.

LIKENS -- Funeral services for Charlotte Likens, 66, 829 Ninth Street, Erwin, who passed away into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 23, 2000, will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, at Ninth Street Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Ward and Dr. Gilbert Adams officiating. Music will be provided by the Ninth Street Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be David Hale, Howard Brown, Larry Stout, Steve Kegley, Tony Harris, Grant Bridges, Lewis Sims, Jack Leonard, John Matthews and the deacons of Ninth Street Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ruth Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Music Fund of Ninth Street Baptist Church, 310 Ninth Street, Erwin, Tenn. 37650. Charlotte was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her Lord, her family and her many friends. Her passion for music and its beauty was shared with hundreds of children over the years.
