I am searching for any and all information on the little place in Stewart County called "Rough and Ready Furnace". My husband's 3rd great-grandparents were living there in the 1880 census.

If anyone knows of a written history or any records concerning this part of Stewart County, I would be grateful to hear from you. Anything at all.

I am trying to get a handle on what the place was like, what kind of people where there and the general history of the place to incorporate it into the history of my husband's Barker family.

Thanks in advance. You can post to this board or to me privately.

Melissa Barker
E-Mail: kaitysmom@peoplestel.net

My g.g.grandmother was Mary DeWitt Walker, born in 1824
in Stewart county. On Nov 30, 1841, in Stewart county she
married Alexander Gordon Ingram. Mary's father was William
Walker born in VA. Does anyone have any idea who her
mother may have been. She had died and William had
remarried by 1850. Would love to share info with anyone
researching these lines.
Thanks

I am trying to find proof of the relationship of ISAAC LOWRY (ca. 1780 - 1841) and SUSANNAH LOWRY (1775 - 1855). Most sources say they are siblings, children of JOHN LOWRY (ca. 1752 - 1818) and his wife WINNEY BEACHAM (ca 1745 - 1836). ISAAC was co-administrator of JOHN'S estate in Stewart County. Is SUSANNAH LOWRY listed as a daughter? Are there other Stewart County records listing these two as siblings. If so, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know if it is still possible to visit the Shemwell Cemetery at the mouth of Bear Creek in LBL? It is north of Dover and near the ever changing shore of Barkley Lake and the Corp of Engineers land. I know it was shown on some older LBL maps, but I don`t know if you can still get to it. Thank you

I`m looking for information on the Thomas W. Shemwell family. Thomas W. Shemwell (1803-1877) married Millie E. Armstrong (1831-1900?) in Stewart Co. TN in 1853 and moved to Trigg Co. KY by 1860. A daughter, Susan Shemwell, was born 12 May 1871. She married Robert L. Choate in 1894. I would appreciate any information on these family members, especially burial sites and locations of the Shemwell cemeteries in the area.
Thank You

Benjamin C. Daniel (1841--1905) TN>KY

Seeking information on Benjamin C. Daniel, who was born May 20, 1841 probably in Stewart County, Tennessee, to David & Mary (Cherry) Daniel, and died January 1, 1905 at Arlington, Kentucky, with burial at Jones Cemetery near Stubblefield in Graves County, Kentucky. Unfortunately his name is missing from the Jones Cemetery transcription so either his grave his unmarked or the stone is lost. His obituary states he married Mrs. Sallie Sexton of Stewart County, Tennessee, January 11, 1871, with the family settling in Graves County, Kentucky, and joining the Presbyterian Church at Shady Grove. At his death he was survived by his wife and five children, with his son G.M. Daniel being a merchant at Stubblefield.

I would appreciate any information on this individual and the facts I have listed.

Thanks

Greg
