My name is Michael L. Canter.



I am building a family history for my family and it appears that Smith County, Tennessee is a very important place in the Canter archives.



I don't know how to ask for "all you have"....but I would like to have as much as you can give me on the Canters of Smith County.



One particular instance is the Madison "Mat" Canter marriage to Nancy Jane Lawson in 1900. We are trying to figure out where Nancy came from, her parents, and if she was in fact Cherokee as family legend has it.



I have traced these Canters back to 1742 in Maryland/Va colonial times with the precentor being a William Canter, Jr (1742-1793). I have much more if you would like it.



Can we trade info ?



By the way, The Smith County site is absolutely the best I have ever seen for family research, photos, info, etc. You folks have done a marvelous job.
