Diane,
I am glad this was of interest to you. I am not directly related to the Harkleroad line, but I am a cousin to Sarah Carr that was the first wife of Tillman Patterson Bettis.

The Bettis family cemetery, which is small and in rather bad condition these days, is considered the oldest markered cemetery in Shleby Co., TN.

I put this information together back when there was some discussion about moving the graves and markers from the Bettis cemetery to Elmwood Cemetery (which is the oldest public cemetery in Memphis and still very active). That move never took place. What is left of the Bettis cemetery is now enclosed within a small brick wall next to a grocery store in mid-twon Memphis. There is a state historical marker about it on Angelus between Madison and Poplar Ave.
