WHITENER FUNERAL HELD HERE TODAY
MEMPHIS RESIDENT PASSED MONDAY; BURIED IN THE HENRY CEMETERY HERE
Graveside service was held at Henry cemetery this afternoon at 1 o'clock for Mrs. Nancy Jane
Whitener, native of
Middleton,
Tennessee, who died Monday at the home of a daughter in Memphis following an illness of seven years. She was 82.
Burial was in Henry cemetery with National Funeral Home of Memphis in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Whitener had been a resident of Memphis for 27 years and resided with her daughter, Mrs. Russell A. Jones at the time of her death.
She was the widow of James Thomas
Whitener, who was in the real estate and insurance business. In addition to Mrs. Russell
Jones, she also leaves three other daughters, Mrs. Walter W. Jones and Mrs. Floyd Harvey of Memphis, and Mrs. George S. Sanders, Clarksdale, Mississippi; her son, Rev. W.L. Whitener, Tishomingo,
Mississippi, her sister, Mrs. W.E. Graham,
Greenville,
Texas, and two brothers, Robert
Luna,
Perrin,
Texas, and Lunceford
Luna, Walnut,
Mississippi, and 3 grandchildren, Mrs. Wayne
Hunter,
Macon,
Mississippi, Mrs. VanNoy
Haller,
Montgomery, Alabama, and Mrs. Roy
Rowe,
Jackson,
Tennessee.
Mrs. Whitener was born in
Middleton,
Tennessee, daughter of
Jeremiah and Molly
Yopp. She spent her early life in
Tippah County,
Mississippi. She was a member of
Madison Heights Methodist Church.
