Would like to find out more about these 2 areas during this timeframe. I just received a copy of my Grandmothers delayed birth certificate. My GGparents listed that she was born b/t Sequatchie & Bledoe County, with the closest town being Dunlap at this time. I would love to find out what kind of trade or migration was taking place during this time.

I'm sure I could probably not be so lucky as to actually get a copy of anything remotely related to the family. However, on the off chance that another does have something or can direct me in the right place, I will state the info I have:

Samuel Leroy ROGERS b.1870 TN
Ida Mildred JENKINS Rogers b.1885 Clay County, AL
Arthur R. ROGERS b.1903 Jackson County, AL
Clara Rebecca ROGERS b.1904 b/t Sequatchie & Bledsoe

Before I forget, was there a town or settlement called Jiggstown, TN about 1870? Samuel's parents were General Andrew Jackson ROGERS & Mary Arminda EVANS. He was born in NC & she was born in TN, but we have no counties or other info. Just trying to trace the family members to their respectable beginnings.

Thanks to anyone who can assist me and also to anyone who has taken the time to read this post.

Looking for anyone who may have info on my GGGmother Eleanor Choate Sitz brn abt 1800 KY?.Was she really brn in KY or possible before KY became a state, and really part of VA. I have tryed for the last 3 years trying to connect Eleanor in KY or any Choat families in KY or TN? with no luck. Could Eleanor be a middle name, and is it possible she was actually a Riley or Richey before she married a Choat, and then later william B Sitz in or around Warren/Marion Co TN abt 1820. I know someone has info or records on her in the area. if she was in the area abt 1820 which I believe was still Indian Terr someone or descendants knows something about her. In my research with what info I got from other researchers/Family it is like she didn't exist. I have seen Choat census before 1800 for KY,and there is no Eleanor Choat/Choate/Shote/Shoat recorded anywhere in KY.
Thank very much.
Roy.
I was recently given pictures of my ggrandfather and ggrandmother's tombstones in Owens Chapel Cemetery. There was also a picture included of Owens United Methodist Church. On the back it was written "where grandma and grandpa went to church". Does this church still exist? Was this the church cemetery? If so, is there anywhere or anyone I could write for church records? Thank you in advance for any help or guidance that anyone might be able to give me.

Tennessee Heritage Books

I am sure this 40 Volume Set of Tennessee Heritage Books are very nice. I don’t think it is a scam but people should be aware that their articles and photos are being used for profit. County Heritage Inc. is a legitimate Company but all articles and photos that is given to them freely by generous people is used to their benefit, discretion and profit. As for the charges to the individuals submitting their information and photos, additional words (over 500) are 10 cents per word. Extra photos (above one) are $12.50 each. I have written to Ancestry.com to see if they are connected to these Heritage Books but haven’t gotten a reply from Ancestry.com yet.

The complaints I am hearing are the phone messages and returned e-mails are automated telling how to purchase this set of books with a very flowery sales pitch and a web page link, their questions aren’t being answered. I guess these books are like everything else, some folks are very pleased and others are not.

Glenda

Someone has volunteered to look for a headstone for me in the small Elliott Cemetery near Dunlap. However, she only has old directions given by a transcriber back in the 1930's, and when she tried looking for it, she wasn't able to get to where she needed to because roads have changed, etc. She's trying again this Sat., but I was wondering if there is anyone there in Sequatchie Co. who has lived there a LONG time and is familiar with this cemetery who might be able to give me modern directions to this cemetery? I'd appreciate your help!! Thank you.

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction or help me in finding a couple of records. Im trying to locate death records for a couple families that would have passed sometime in the early to mid 1900's. 1st is George and Mary Long who are last found owning their farm in District 2 in the 1910 census. Then there's Frank G. and Mandy C. Long who are last found owning their farm in the 1930 census. Frank G. has also been listed in previous census' as George F. Long
Any information or tips in how to find death dates and info on these folks would be greatly appreciated. Or if you happen to know of someone who might be able to help me that you might forward this e-mail to would also be of help. Thanks so much for your time.
Darryl Long
I am trying to find my bilogical Grandfather. My Father's name (he went by )was Clyde Berry Jones, born out of wedlock nov.1910 to Nellie Watson. She married Lewis Jones in 1914 and Dad went by the Jones name. He passed away Feb. 19, 2004. I think that Berry was a part of his real name. Some man died in the 1950's and Dad and Grandmother Nellie went to the funeral and Dad made the comment that he gave some money on the gravestone. He was also left the old homeplace, as I remember Dad saying when I was a little girl, but did not think anything about it. He remarked that there were a lot of children in the family and he didn't feel right about accepting the property so he gave it to other children. The property I believe was around Spring City, Tn.I am not searching for anything except a name. If any of this sounds familiar to you please email me and help me find who my real Grandfather was.
Thanks Barbara Newton

Smith Family

I am researching my SMITH family and found that Ransom D. SMITH's land was in Marion County when he bought it but ends up in Sequatchie County after he dies. I am trying to locate this land. I was told that he was most likely buried on this land along with his wife, Elizabeth MOSS SMITH, but there was a flood and the graves were washed away. Does anyone know about this flood? Has anyone heard of a SMITH Cemetery in Sequatchie County?
I also was told that his land was close to Dunlap. He fought in the Rev War. And like his father, Gulielmus SMITH, who was a large land and slave owner, he would have owned slaves and had a plantation. I've been told that all the large plantations in and around the Marion/Sequatchie area were up around Dunlap. Can anyone help?

Helen L. Smith Hoke
(I chase dead people....and they are so far ahead of me, I'll never catch up. I think they're hiding under rocks.)

Some how we are related to Maude and Alfred Raines family and Charlie and Lottie Clark. When Charlie and Lottie passed on the person who was caring for them got the house. Up in the attic was a shoe box, inside was a small dress. That was my dad's. Was wondering if there was any papers in there that might help me find out more about family line passed my Grandfather. So if you know anyone that I have posted here PLEASE let me know. Have not been there since I was 12 and am now 46.

John Russell and Henry Russell of Sequatchie?

Hi all!

I have a potential match in the Russell family that I wanted to run by you folks. My gg-grandfather was a John Wesley Russell born August 18, 1853 in East TN (according to his death certificate and census reports). No parents were listed on his death certificate. The census does state that both parents were born in TN.

So I was doing some research and came across the Russells of Sequatchie county, TN. I noticed that there was a Henry C. Russell born July 24, 1830 (son of a John Russell born 1787)who had a John Russell born August 1853. Does anyone have any info on this line that might prove or disprove my connection. It seems like a match to me, but I figured I'd see if some has already followed the line down to verify it. Feel free to reply or email. And if this is indeed a match, I'll be glad to post my line for everyone. Thanks!

Heath
