Hugh W. Thompson married to Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" McGee had 8 children, 5 who were still alive in 1900. In the 1870 census of Lincoln, County Tennessee there is listed a Lonie Thompson born in 1865 who we suspect to be our missing Samuel Lon Thompson but we just cannot make the final connection. Someone who is related to Hugh Blanton Thompson has made postings here on this website but has left no name for contact. We are hoping that Hugh Blanton Thompson who is documented to be the son of Hugh W. Thompson is indeed the brother of Samuel Lon Thompson. Hugh Blanton was in the Kelso, Mulberry area of Tennessee. Samuel Lon Thompson married Alice Joanna Butler who was from Pulaski, Giles County, Tennessee. Would love anyone to contact me about this family.

TN married to Mary Margaret Ford, daughter of John Ford, of Burke Co., NC, as they are selling land left by her father. I do find an 1830 Census record in Rutherford Co. TN of a Meredith Tucker, with family members the right age to be Moraday & Mary Margaret, but ...?

Researching the life of Rev. Thomas Spraggins, born 1772, Halifax Co., VA. He was the son of Thomas Spraggins and Maacha Abney. He married Nancy Bumpass. He is said to have died in Clayburn City, Mississippi, on 2 February 1843; but he had moved to Texas about 1837 and 20 February 1843, Velasco, TX, is also given as a date and place of death. He became in 1816 a Baptist missionary and moved west, supposedly to work among the Cherokee. (Were there Cherokee in Rutherford Co. about that time?) In the early 1820's he was in Blount Co., Alabama, where a daughter, Rebecca, married Isaac C. Hoskins. Before that time, he was in Rutherford County. Are there mentions of him, his work, his family, in Rutherford Co. histories, deed records, census records, and so forth? Any information will be appreciated immensely! Thank you.

Looking for birth info on a Minnie Sykes. Maiden name may have been Slaughter. Minnie married George Sykes. I have the census from 1900-1930. George deserted family by 1930. They are also listed as mulatto or black. Minnies mother possibly named Lula Slaughter as listed in the 1930 Census.
This could also have been a second marriage for both George and Minnie. They had 5 kids George/Georgie, Roscoe, Alfred, Lewis and Lillie.

Feb 1885 in TN

There is a marriage record for a Yandell Clark and Milly Lee for 12 Feb 1846 in Marshall Co. TN. Second marriage for Yandell Clark.

There is a marriage record for a Frederick Becton & and Eliza P. Yandell for 18 Jan 1824 in Rutherford Co. TN.

In the 1850 Census, Rutherford Co. TN there is an Eliza P. Becton living with the family of Lunsford P. Yandle (he is listed as a physician). There is one year difference in their age therefore Lunsford Yandle and Eliza Becton could be brother & sister. Maybe Frederick Becton has died.

I think there are family connections between the Yandle/Yandell, Becton/Beckton, and Clark families but I have been unable to make the links connect.

Any one that could add information to this would be greatly appreciated!

Sources: marriage records, death records, census records, Joy Gallagher, Jenelle Taylor, President of the Grundy County Historical Society, and http://www.gchs.homestead.com

Thank you so very much!

Bird and Louisa moved to Smith County, TN then Moniteau County, MO then Hunt County, TX and Logan County, AR. Bird died in Logan County on 8 Jun 1879 and Louisa died on 20 Feb 1889.
Problem is the copy I came across is missing pages 2,4,6,8, and 10. I do know that Martha Angeline's Parents were James and Mary Stem. I believe that Angeline's sister Sarah is my great-grandmother's paternal grandmother. I would appreciate any information regarding these two women
Hily or Hilldy found in Rutherford census...HELP!

from Clinton Slayton:
Two census records provide a clue to the possible death location of one of two men named Wade Slaten/Slaton, one of whom is my gr gr gr gf:
1880 dist 196 page 112C Wade Slaten b 1801 SC, fNC mSC, paralyzed, with wife Hily Ann, b 1834 TN. Enumerated June 14, 1880
1900 ed 107 16 shows Hilldy Slaton b 1832-03 VA fTN mVA alone in Eagleville
I do not find any continuation (so far) in 1910, so if Hily/Hilldy died bet 1900 and 1910, there might be a death or burial record of some sort, or obit. If anyone has access to such records for this county, this could contain very important information. We will consult with the Archives at Nashville, but an old clipping collection might contain something about these people. If anyone has such, or can point me to a good resource, I am in Homewood AL and can make the trip to Rutherford (or Nashville). My own Wade disappears after 1860, and his (presumed) widow is in Coffee co TN in 1880, but perhaps I presumed too much. However, the other Wade consistently reported 1800-1801 as age for census. Either way, there have been no sightings in 1870 census for either of them, so we have presumed all along that they were already dead by 1880, this census records suggests that one of them was not.

Jonah Davidson/Mary Finch Marriage-26 Jan 1825

There is concern that the record that show that Jonah Davidson married Mary Finch in Rutherford Co., TN could have been transcribed incorrectly, and hence, that it was actually a Josiah Davidson who married her. If anyone ever goes to the courthouse, I would greatly appreciate it if you would find the original marriage bond and see if the spelling looks like it could have been "Josiah" versus "Jonah." There is a great deal of evidence (borders on being almost irrefutable) that it was, in fact, a Josiah Davidson who married her. Does anyone know if a letter or e-mail to the circuit courthouse in Rutherford would produce any results? Does anyone have the court address (e-mail or "snail-mail")? Thanks so much!

John Basham and family appear on the 1820 Rutherford County Census. His wife's name was Parthena LNU and one son named Pleasant who married a Matilda Childers or Childress. There may have been other children. Family moved to Jackson County, AL by 1830, then on to Arkansas. Just wondering if anyone has any additional information on the origins of this family. Thanks.

He is supposed to be buried in the Beaty cemetery in M'boro. He wrote a will, dated 3-15-1835, but I have never seen it. He had a brother, William Beaty, who also moved to Murfreesboro at the same time. Does anyone have any information on either of these two brothers or Mary Catherine Smith Beaty?
We are looking for descendants of the Waller line who move from Lunenburg and Franklin Counties, Virginia, in the early 1800s. My Waller line settled around Murfeesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee.

We descend from Susan Catherine Waller, b. 3 January 1826, to Edward and Matilda Claiton/Clayton....Susan married Albert G. Livings on May 28, 1851, in Rutherford County. Albert was born on February 9, 1824, in Switzerland County, Indiana.

The children of Albert and Susan were:
Albert G., Jr and Allie

We descend from James Waller, born about 1733, in Lunenburg County, Virginia. His first wife is unknown. James could have married about 1774. His second marriage was to Sarah Mathews, they were married on 22 January 1787, in Lunenburg County.

James and 1st wife's other children were: Nelson; Susanna; Martha (Patty); Rice; Sterling; Rebecca; Mary; James; Robert

We descend through James Waller's son Benjamin Waller, born about 1757, in Lunenburg County. We only know that he married Martha (?). Their marriage could have taken place, about 1884, in Virginia.

Benjamin Waller's son, we only know by "Son"....We don't know if that was his real name or not, he was born about 1786,in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

Benjamin's other children: Mary (Polly); Nancy; William; Martha (Patsey); Benjamin Philip

We have no idea who Son Waller married, which was probably about 1805, in Lunenburg County. We descend from Son Waller's son Edward, born about 1806, probably in Lunenburg.

We would like to discover some new Waller cousins, who can help us fill in some blanks.

We are looking for the descendants of Martha (Waller, b. abt. 1825) and James L. Howland (b. abt. 1816). They were married on 15 Mar 1848, in Rutherford County, Tennessee.

Children of Martha and James born in Rutherford County:
Edward, b. 1849
Jane, b. Sep 1850
Hester, b. abt 1858

Martha was the daughter of Edward Waller and Matilda Claitor/Claytor. Her father was born in Virginia and her mother was born in Rutherford County, both in 1806.

Martha's grandparent's Benjamin and Martha Waller, were born in Lunenburg County, Virginia and her great grand father James Waller, was born in Amelia County, Virginia.

Martha's sibling's were Susan Catherine, b. 3 Jan 1826, in Rutherford County and married Jonathan Gallatin Livings.

Matlida, b. abt. 1830
Hester, b. abt. 1832
William C, b. abt. 1835

Martha's sister Susan, was listed as living with James and her family on the Millersburg, Rutherford County, Tennessee, 1850 census.

We are hoping that Susan Waller Howland descendants know the names of her father Edward's parents. Right now we only know him as Son Waller, b. abt. 1786, in Virginia. Also, we hope that our Waller cousins can fill us in on our Waller history, in Virginia. We have Waller wills and deeds info that we can share.

This is a second copy of this query. My puppy, sent the first one (grin) before I had filled in the whole subject line....SWe are looking for the descendants of Martha (Waller, b. abt. 1825) and James L. Howland (b. abt. 1816). If so, would it include entries for Minerva Phipps (died 1921) and her parents Joshua (death unknown) and Zibbie Williams (died between 1900 and 1910)?

Thanks
Dwayne Montz
Dayton, OH

I'm looking for information about John Farr who lived in Wilson and/or Rutherford Counties around 1800. James Ephraim Farr mentioned his brother John Farr in his will probated in 1803 in Wilson County. Another brother Ephraim Farr lived in Milton, Rutherford Co and was executor of the will. Would be happy to exchange information. Thanks. Lynne Farr

REED, Bessie, Elbern/Elvin & Rubie Lee - c/o Wm E. Reed (b abt 1880)

The 1930 Rutherford Co., TN includes a family headed by W.E. (William E.) and Belle Reed. Both were born around 1880ish. Their children were Bessie, (17), Elvin (12) and Rubie Lee (10). In 1920, this family (minus Rubie Lee) was enumerated in Coffee Co., TN. "Elvin" from 1930 was spelled "Elbern" in 1920. I am not certain which spelling is correct. William E. Reed may have been son of Adam (or Andrew) Reed of Rutherford Co., TN. If so, William's siblings would inlude Becton(?), Jesse, Chester Arthur and Lila Reed. Is anyone familiar with this family? I need dates of death for William E. and Belle (possibly Nannie Belle) Reed. I would dearly love to connect with any surviving children or grandchildren of William and Belle. ANY help tracking this family would be most appreciated.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone claim or know anything about this Malvina/Vina/Viney Stafford from the 1850 Rutherford Co., TN and 1860 Montgomery Co., TN census data?

Adam Stafford is age 62 in 1850 CD 1, Coffee Co., TN. James Stafford, 15, resides with him.

Malvina Stafford is age 43 in 1850 Big Springs, Rutherford Co., TN census with Elizabeth Stafford, age 4, and several Webb children (one a William, age 8, see below), and a Dillard girl.

(Note: CD 1, Coffee Co., TN and Big Springs, Rutherford Co., TN, are just across the county line from each other)

Estate records for Adam Stafford show he died @1857. His (2nd?) wife, "Viney," there receives a dower share of his estate.

I next find in 1860 Montgomery Co, TN cen: Vina Stafford, 52 in HH#77, b. TN, blind. Also in HH: William Stafford, 18 (Wm Webb, age 8 from 1850 census?), m, w, TN; Elizabeth Stafford, 14, f, w, TN.

Are Adam Stafford and this Malvina/Vina/Viney Stafford the same ones as found in the Coffee Co., TN estate settlement records for Adam Stafford upon his decease?

Any help, ideas, or suggestions will certainly be appreciated!

Greg Keeling

Joshua was 56 years old when he married Elizabeth for second wife, and Elizabeth was a few years younger, so Nance may be her name from first marriage. First wife's name was Cannady/Kennedy. Joshua was from VA and then Kentucky, and returned there to Morgan County at least by 1850 according to census.

Mary Vaught died 10 days after giving birth to my Ggrandmother, Frances Allen Bryant (b May 12, 1884 in Milton,TN). We don't have much information on her because of her early death. I know that her husband, John Baxter Bryant married a Barbara Branson and they moved the family to Ky. Any information would be great!
I did find a picture of Frances "Fannie" Bryant near some Vaught tombstones - James Monroe (1864-1933), Willie Virginia, and Sarah Novella (d 1933). Also and I.N. Vaught and a Rev. Seigle Ogle. Not sure of the connections. Thanks again,
andreaharris1@yahoo.com

Margaret NICHOLS married Samuel MONTGOMERY 1740-1748.

It's possible Margaret NICHOLS could be related to Eleanor NICHOLS wife of William HIGHT and daughter of William NICHOLS. Eleanor NICHOLS marred William HIGHT 1744. William HIGHT born 1763 died 1795, son of John HIGHT.

Also searching for parents and siblings of Frances NICHOLS born 1822 in TN that could be a descendant of Eleanor and William NICHOLS.
We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We have a family tree of nearly 35000 (35K) Kittrell descendants and spouses that is totally private and a MyFamily site that is private and free and available to all Kittrell descendants and spouses.

Just post or e-mail if you fit the bill and want to see thousands of bits of Kittrell info.

The area of the future Gates County of North Carolina is the origin in the USA of the largest Kittrell family and Bertie County, NC was the home of one or more of the next generation, and later they moved on through Craven, Pitt, Granville, Carteret, Davidson and other NC counties as land grew to scarce for the number of male heads of household to feel that they could prosper.

After that period of homesteading in various counties, many in some branches moved to other states including many times over Tennessee, with Sumner appearing to be one of the first stops and many times over Maury County and other coumties including listed alphabetically Anderson, Cannon, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Hamilton, Henry Hickman, Jackson, Knox, Lawrence, Lewis, Loudon, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Meigs, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Rutherford, Shelby, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, White, Williamson, Wilson and Weakley Counties, among many other, later became the home of many Kittrells of one line or another or multiple lines.

Anyone with Kittrell in their lore please write or post or both!

Anyone with Kittrell in any Tennessee document is welcome to write and to share info on an area rich in Kittrells, complicated to delineate from which Kittrell they descend and of which we have a large knowledge. We lose track of some of the female Kittrell lines consistently in every generation and would like to add them back to the family tree.

The name has many spellings through the centuries in public record including as examples only Kittrell, Kittrel, Kitrel, Kitrell, Kitterlin, Kitterill, Kitterell,..., leterally dozens or literally dozens depending how well you spell such things.

We will assist anyone on Kittrell matters (for free of course other than the wealth we get from both of us sharing some of what we know).

And we will be most pleased to find more missing links broken from our tree due to distance and change of generations to those who barely know a whit of their Kittrell kin.
