Researching the life of Rev. Thomas Spraggins, born 1772, Halifax Co., VA. He was the son of Thomas Spraggins and Maacha Abney. He married Nancy Bumpass. He is said to have died in Clayburn City, Mississippi, on 2 February 1843; but he had moved to Texas about 1837 and 20 February 1843, Velasco, TX, is also given as a date and place of death. He became in 1816 a Baptist missionary and moved west, supposedly to work among the Cherokee. (Were there Cherokee in Rutherford Co. about that time?) In the early 1820's he was in Blount Co., Alabama, where a daughter, Rebecca, married Isaac C. Hoskins. Before that time, he was in Rutherford County. Are there mentions of him, his work, his family, in Rutherford Co. histories, deed records, census records, and so forth? Any information will be appreciated immensely! Thank you.
