I am looking for any info on James Cole and Rachel Choate families. They lived in Putnam Co. Tennessee. They are my 3-great grandparents. Their son John T Cole and Lucinda Choate are my 2-great grandparents. I have a birth certificate for Lonzo "Lon" Jefferson Cole. He is my great grandfather. The birth certificate list his parents as John Thomas Cole and Lucinda Choate. Lonzo married Dora Sullivan. I also would like info on the Sullivan's.

Hi,
I'm looking for information on David (A.?) Whiteaker (1792-1854) . The information I have is that he and his wife Nancy Lett lived in that area. I believe that they may both be buried in a family cemetery. Is there a Whiteaker Family cemetery in Putnam County? Any information is appreciated!

Here is the additional info I have . . .
David Whiteaker (1792 - 1854) and Nancy Lett (1790-1847) were born in Sparta TN. In 1835 they sold their property there and moved to Grand River Township near Cameron, MO. He was one of the first settlers in the area. He built a watermill for both lumber and meal on Grindstone Creek. He received the land for service in the war of 1812. They had six children, including Samuel (1827-1857)the youngest.
I am seeking any information on where Thomas Henry/Henry Thomas Nelson and his wife, Susannah"Susie" Nelson are buried. Thomas Henry Nelson probably died between 1880 and 1900 and Susannah probably after 1910. They had been living in Putnam County, Tennessee for many years so believe them to have probably died there and were buried there. Any help at all appreciated. Shirley Roach King

Crouch family of TN

I am looking for information on Jane Crouch who was married to a James Wilson in TN. Both James Wilson & Jane Crouch were from Putman County, TN. I got this information off their daughter Hester's death certificate. Hester was married to a man named William Wilson. I am not sure if William was related to Hester or not. They both had the last name of Wilson. Hester was my great grandmother on my mother's side. Hester died in Manchester, TN on Aug 26, 1948. She is buried in Bethany Cemetery, Coffee County, TN. Hester had two sons Fulton & Sam. Sam was my grandfather. Both Fulton & Sam died at different time in 1946. They are buried at Maple Hill cemetery in Huntsville, AL. I really do not know anything about the Crouch Family. The first time I became aware of them was when I order a copy of Hester's death Certificate. Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyone tell me if the lunacy records of Tennessee are public? Or Where women might have been committed in the late 1800's? Here is my problem: Looking for info on Josephine/Josie/Fina Perdue Bell. She was the wife of George Wesley Bell. She bore him 10 children, last born in
1890. She supposedly died Dec.30, 1894 in Nashville and was buried in Lovelady Cemetery, outside Cookville. Did they move bodies like that back then?? My great grandmother went out to earn her keep at 13 and her sister Lottie is found working out at 13 in the 1900 census. George remarried a woman half his age, and that marriage was before Josephine's reported death. In 1900 he is in Putnam Co, with wife 2, 2 new babies and 3 of Fina's kids. So, I am wondering if he put her away and/or divorced her? Any advice????

Marvin Whitefield b. Tennessee - d. Indiana

Want to find the parents for Marvin Esten Whitefield. He married Mary Myrtis LeFever. I've found much information on Mary Myrtis LeFever line. I'm stumped on Marvin. I've found much Whitefield information, but am unable to connect Marvin to the Whitefields from TN.

In the 1920 Putnam Co, Tennessee census, Marvin is listed as the son of Jasper C and Angeline Whitefield.

In the 1930 Putnam Co, Tennessee census, Marvin is listed as the adopted son of J C and Angeline Whitefield.

According to the 1910 Putnam Co, Tennessee census, Jasper was born about 1863 in Kentucky, both of Jaspers parents born in Tennessee. Angeline was born about 1874 in Tennessee, both of her parents born in Tennessee. The 1910 census also recorded Jasper and Angeline have been married for 12 years, and that Angeline has given birth to no children. I believe Jasper is Jasper Cullin, born to Benjamin F and Louisa Thomas Whitefield. I do not know Angeline's maiden name.

My guess is that Marvin is a nephew to Jasper and Angeline. By the SSI records, Marvin was born 15 Feb 1909 in Tennessee. I could not find Marvin in the 1910 census ~ but he should have been there.

Any help would be appreciated.
Dawn

My great grandfather was William Frison Simmons. My family tells me he died between 1941 and 1945. He was living in Monterey, Tennessee at the time of his death, but I can't find a death certificate or any records of him being buried in either Monterey or anywhere nearby. I have written to the Social Security Administration asking for a copy of his application for a social security number because I had his old Social Security Card. They said they have no proof of his death, so they can't give me the information. He was born in 1891, so he would be 116 years old if he was still alive. I don't know what to give them for proof of death. Can anyone help me out? I'm at a dead end.

George Percy and Sina Apple

Hello.

I am trying to find information on George Percy and Sina Apple. Percy and Sina were married 3 Oct 1883 in Smith County. Sina's maiden name is listed as Apple.

I believe that George is the son of John and Amanda Apple of Smith County, he was born Oct 1859 according to the 1900 Census. He went by the name of George and Percy (Pursey).

I am not able to find his wife's family. On the same census her DOB is June 1867. We have found a Sina on the 1880 census, but she is living with Nancy Elrod. Her age is a couple years off from what we have and she is listed as a 3rd cousin. They also do not have another last name listed for her, only Elrod.

I am also thinking George and Sina passed away sometime between 1900-1910. Their children and their place of residence in 1910 are below.

Annie Mae (b. Jan 1885) married to Ezekiel Apple 23 Sept 1903
Oscar (b. Feb 1891) living with Oliver brother and Della Apple; listed as a nephew - Oliver is George's Brother
Hargia (b. May 1893) unknown
Verley/Verla (b. Nov 1895) living with John H. and Mary Apple (John H. is Jackson Apple's son) and listed as a cousin
Minnie Apple (b. Sept 1898) - living with Minnie (Apple) and Dan McDonald; listed as a niece - Minnie is George's sister

Hope that all makes sense! I would appreciate any assistance!

Thanks in advance
Naomi Troutz
I am interested in learning more about my grandfather Fred Williams and his people. Fred's wife's name was Sally. They lived in Buffalo Valley, Putnam County, Tennessee in the early 1960's. I am not sure where Fred Williams was born; he may have been born around 1910 or so. He died approximately 1973. He and my grandmother were both buried in Rock Springs Cemetary. They had at least four children: Owen ("Bud"), Alden, Bea and Faye. I have lost contact with my father's family and would like to find them again. Can anyone help?

So I am looking for you long lost cousins so I can update the family tree.
Donald Locke
lockeroots@comcast.net
http://home.comcast.net/~lockeroots/home.html

McCormick marriage records (Smith, Phillips, and related)

Looking for any assistance I might get for the following:

Martha A. McCormack married to John Smith (before 1870)

Martha A. likely the widow of Lorenzo Dow McCormick, son of George McCormick. She is found listed with John Smith 1870 and 1880 Putnam County; LD McCormick in 1860 Putnam (HH of George McCormick)

She is listed under the lineage of John Smith done by Mitzi Freemen. Her three oldest children being Tench (Frank), John (Janor Christian), and George P. McCormick.

ALSO, record of the marriage of Tench McCormick and Luvise Phillips. Family bible record lists the couple and their sons.

Tench and Luvise listed 1880 census, Putnam County as Tench McCormick and LueV and children.

McCormick trees list Tench and Luvice as Tench and Lese V.

The marriage licenses for both couples, John Smith and Martha A. McCormick AND Tench McCormick and Luvice Phillips must exist because of the entries found but I've had no success pinpointing them.

Any help would be welcome! I've been hunting for Tench and Luvice record for about three years. Even if there is no listing and someone has advice as to where I might look I would appreciate feedback.

Thanks in advance.

Robin Garland

I am looking for the record of marriage for James Ashbury Tallant b.23 Jan 1857 to Nancy Susanne Brown b.18 Sep 1850. I don't know if it was in Putnam County, however, could someone look in the books for me. Also, I am trying to find the three children that they had and lost -I know that there was a set of twins born after 1870 and died before the 1880 census. Could someone help me with this request.

Looking at a death certificate for a Loeta(sp?) ADKINS
died age 25 Nov 25, 1923 in Liberty, Stoddard Co,MO. Buried Stevenson Cemetery. It shows her fathers name as Adam ADKINS from Birdstown, TN. and mother Ida PECK from Essex, MO.

I have a Thomas Young ADKINS b.1884 KY. who shows on the 1910 census in Castor, Stoddard County, Missouri
and was married 1907 in New Madrid Co, Missouri to Alice Birdie PUGH (Pew). In 1920 they are back in New Madrid Co,MO. and 1930 census they are in Morley, Scott County, Missouri.
They are both buried at New Morley Cemetery, Scott County, Missouri.
So far I can't find one single person who connects to him so when I seen that death info on the above showing the father as Adam ADKINS from Birdstown, TN. I'm hoping maybe someone else might see a connection and maybe there line or someone else line they know of went to KY.
Thank for reading,

Theresa theresagriffiths@iwon.com
Looking for Information (including Cemetery Look-up) On the Jackson Family of Monterey

I am looking for information on the Jackson family from Monterey, Tennessee. I have only a small amount of information on my great grandfather. His name was Harvie (or Harvey or Harvil) Jackson. I have no birth date, but he married Ollie Alene Hurst on May 26, 1923. He died before the birth of his last child (my grandmother) on March 24, 1931. I believe he may be the son of John and Jane Jackson of Monterey (1930 census.) I believe that he had a brother named Byrdle (who died in 1992.) Harvie and Ollie's children were Helen, Wilma and Orvil (all deceased.) Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Cheri Woods-Edwin

My grandmother was Rebecca Tayes who married Wint Johnson in 1904. She was born in 1886 and was daughter of Sam Tayes (or Tays/Tayse/etc) and MIranda Neely (have seen spelling on this as MARanda Nealy and MORanda Neely as well - may/ may not be same person)

Her father and mother may have moved into Overton county -- could not find an entry in the 1880 census -- but we believe my grandmother was born in the Clay/Overton county area (Hilham/Celina)

As a little girl, she did not go to school - she had a tutor as a teacher (well-to-do family ???) She usually went by the name of Beckey.

Beckey and Wint had a farm (~100+ acres) that State of TN took away and flooded as part of the TVA Dale Hollow Dam project. Both my mother and grandmother had very clear Native American features. My grandmother died in 1960 in Sparta.

Beckey Johnson's daughter was my mother (Bonnie Evelyn Johnson) who married Leo ("Chig") Fred Smith in 1944.

I am having an awful time trying to trace the Johnson / Tayes side of my family given the many ways that Tayes might have been spelled! Please, any help that I can get is much appreciated!!

Thank you
Jerry Smith

Looking for whereabouts of Louisa Pippin in 1910 and date of death of Wade W. Dyer, both probably born in Putnam Co, TN. Louisa married Wade W. Dyer; they apparently lived in both TN and KY; by 1880 they were in Bollinger Co, MO. In 1900, Wade was listed 2x in the census, once as father-in-law in Willam P. Terry household in New Madrid Co, MO, and again as head of household with wife Louisa. In 1910 census Wade Dyer, father-in-law in household of Pate Terry, but I could not find Louisa or anyone else in the family. In 1920 Eliza [sic] Dyer, mother-in-law, wd, was living in the same Terry household. Louisa died in 1924. Also particularly interested in any information about their daughter Mariah (Dyer) Tuck, and the whereabouts of Martha (another daughter)and Wm P Terry in 1930.
Isaac W. Davis b. 11-20-1820 IL d. 11-26-1887 Cookeville married Elizabeth Carr b. 2-28-1824 TN d. 11-6-1887 Cookeville. Both are buried in West Cemetery.

I have a marriage date of November 1867 in Putnam County. Because she was over 40 at the time of this marriage, I am wondering if this is not her first marriage and CARR is a married name. Seeking any info that would help me find her parents. My Davis' & Carr's married back and forth.

Also wondering if there is some way to look up the cause of their death since they are only about 3 weeks apart.

Thank you

I am hoping I might fine some info on a family who had at least 3 children. Their names were Oscar, Lee & Maud Jones. Maud married a Willie (J.W.) LeQuire in 1913 and Maud died in 1916 leaving behind a daughter Lillie O. LeQuire. I am hoping someone might know this family. I would like to get in touch with some of this family I have some pictures that I feel like they might want. Lillie has since died and I feel that her mom's side (Jones) should have these pictures. If you might know of them please give them my email address it's sharonlynneh@aol.com or Sharonlynneh@earthlink.net ..

Sharon Frady Williams
NC

I found this on Fountain: When the 1870 Census was taken, Fountain and his family were living in the home of Andrew Jackson, farmer, age 66, born in NC. It appears that this was Fountain's father-in-law. The listing for Fountain's family is: Fountain Elrod, farm hand, age 21, Adeline Elrod 29, and James Elrod 6 months; all were born in TN. Is this correct?

Can you give me the names of all of Fountain's children?

Also, I am afraid that I have 2 men combined into one Thomas Elrod, born about 1806-1811. I have a wife for each, but one early in his life and one later, so that might be correct. Was Fountain Thomas' only son?

I am hoping someone can clarify if Fountain Elrod (listed as age 1 in 1850 Census in Smith Co., TN) was the same man as Fauntin Elrod listed as age 40 in the 1880 Census (same county).

Second question: in the 1850 Census Fountain was apparently the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Elrod. In the 1880 Census, Fauntin Elrod was listed on the same census page as Nancy Elrod (age 68), widow of Ephraim Elrod. So, were Ephraim and Nancy Elrod his parents? Ephraim was in Jackson Co., TN for the 1840 and 1850 censuses, in Putnam Co. for the 1860 Census, and in Smith Co. for the 1870 Census.
Can anyone help me with this?
