My maternal grandparents lived in Pickett County, TN until about 1920, they then moved to KY. They were Isaac Brownlow Crabtree 1887-1959 and Effie Lee Davidson 1890-1970. They were married 1 Aug 1908 in Red Hill, TN
Isaac Brownlow's parents were William Brownlow Crabtree
1864-1886? and Thursann Moody 1868-1896. Effie's parents were Willliam P. Davidson 1857-1929 and Mary Ellen Evans 1852-1931. I would like to share any info with interested researchers, much of my info is not yet proven. I would appreciate any help with research tips for this area. If any one knows of a source for the Pickett County cemetery book, "Gone But Not Quite Forgotten" , please send me the name and address. I was told that the book is out of print and not available.

Josephine May Foster Brannam, 85, of Liberty, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana.
She was born March 30, 1923 in Byrdstown, Tennessee to Albert and Ethel Cross Foster. She moved with her family to the Richmond area as a teenager. Josephine worked many jobs, but her true calling was as an accomplished seamstress. Most recently she held the position of supervisor of interiors at Bev's Threads in Richmond. She was a very creative woman. She was a published poet who also loved to draw and could play several string instruments including mandolin, guitar, violin, and autoharp. Josephine loved nature and had a broad knowledge of the medicinal properties of many plants. She had "a green thumb".
She would collect plants while traveling, bring them home, and plant them in her yard. Everything seemed to flourish in her care. She was known for growing a vegetable garden and canning every year, but especially for her most remarkable rhubarb patch. Family was the center of her life, and she was the center of her family. Family dinners were always at Grandma Jo's house.
She took great pride in her family and was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include her daughter: Judith Brannam Sharp of Cincinnati, OH; sister: Vivian Weimer of Greenfield, Indiana; daughter-in-law: Catherine Brannam of Liberty; six grandchildren: Dana Risch and her husband Damian of Brownsville, Geoffrey Patterson of Brownsville, Amanda Patterson of Oxford, OH; Bill Brannam and his wife Jessica of Carmel, Indiana; Clinton Brannam and Clayton Brannam, of Liberty; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and good family friend: Lowell Burwell of Liberty.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter: Faye Brannam Payne; a son: Robert M. Brannam; two brothers: Allen Foster and Shirley Foster; two sisters: Beatrice Shannon and Alberta Gilliam; and her beloved dog: Amy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Elder Lowell Burwell and Bishop Dan Parker of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Connersville officiating. Internment will follow in Goshen Cemetery, Wayne County. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, where memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Community Clothing Closet. Faye Payne, 59, of Liberty died Monday morning, August 27, 2007, at the Fayette Regional Health System in Connersville. During the next few years she became active with the Historical Society, and the Miami Valley Re-enactors, participating in Union County’s Founders Day by dressing in historical costumes and giving live demonstrations of making butter. Faye was a strong supporter of the 4 C’s Food and Clothing Bank of Union County, and spent much of her time volunteering there. Her leisure time was filled with collecting bunny rabbits, sewing historical costumes, working in her gardens, and spending time with family. She is remembered for making wonderful homemade strawberry shortcake for her family and friends, using fruit she grew herself. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Connersville and was employed at Woodruff’s Supermarket for over 20 years, and had also worked at Energy Plus.
I am trying to find the location of my Grandma's Grandpa Pryor's farm. I have found him in the 1930 Pickett Co. Census in Civil Dist. 5, Enumeration district 7. His name is William George Allen Pryor and is listed as George Pryor on the 1930 census. My grandma remembers the farm was "in the valley", near a little stream. I am taking a trip to Pickett County and am hoping at least to photograph the right general area. Could anyone shed some light on what mountains are around the Byrdstown area?
Thanks!

Cpt Wiley Huddelston had a company in the War of 1812 made up of soldiers from what was later to become Pickett Co. TN. I have located that list and you can order a copy for $5.00 it will take you up to 6 weeks to get it via mail. If anyone wants to go to Nashville and get it you can have it much sooner. Since this was in Overton Co. in 1812-1814 time period there may be people from Overton Co. on it as well. But according to my source "History of Overton County" by Robert L. & Mary Eldridge the men in this company were from the northern part of Overton Co. that part that became Pickett and Fentress Co. No I do not have a copy of the list. One can only order one thing each 6 weeks and right now I am in the precluded zone. Send me an email and give me your email address if you want this information.

I found a listing in a Revolutionary War Pension Application index for Rowland Flowers (widow Ann/Anna).

Could there be a listing of their children in this file which would give documentation that they had a daughter Rosanna who married Fielding Huddleston?

I would like to find some kind of documentaion which would for Fielding Huddleston's wife.

Pam
Just starting research on the Garrett side. Line is John Daley Sr. then Jr. Son of John Jr, was Robert Garrett who married a Damie Huckeby. Their son Charlie John was my grandfather married to Mary Effie Pierce. Any information on these lines would be appreciated. They lived in and around Byrdstown and Jamestown, then later moved to Kentucky and Indiana.
I am trying to find out how Nate Tompkins is related to my family. My father, Charles Bridges, was born in Armathwaite, TN in 1936. His father was Ewell Bridges, and his mother was Floy Louise (Tompkins) Bridges. Louise's father was Edward Tompkins. They all lived around Rugy, Armathwaite, Allardt & Jamestown. We know Nate Tompkins is related somehow, but there is no one left who knows the connection.

Nate Tompkins sold land to Sgt. Alvin York, where the Gristmill and State Park are now located. I will be visiting there in mid-October and would like to know my family connection before visiting.

If anyone has any information, please email me at tspooh02@yahoo.com.

Thank you!

Looking for descendants of Joshua Bernard Garrett Sr. b.1765 in Amelia County Virginia. I am particularly interested in his son Joseph Garrett b. aft 1783 and more specifically in the time after they moved from Virginia to Overton County Tennessee. I have seen information listing his wife as Juda. I feel there were two wives with different family’s over Joseph’s lifetime. There seems to be missing information on the 1820 census for Overton County. It shows two males under 10. Does anyone have any information as to who these two males are? I am finding circumstantial evidence that may point to one being named Stephen b. 1810 and the other could be Joseph Jr. b. 1814. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Don Ayer

I have an original letter from my gggrandmother's half-brother, J.H. Irwin, written in 1895, that shows as a "return address," in his hand, "Otto Pickett Co." I have looked at a number of postings and web pages about Pickett Co. and see nothing to indicate that there was an Otto Pickett. Does anyone have any idea why he would have shown that on the letter? (I know that he was raised in Overton Co. and believe he lived in Overton/Pickett most of his adult life.)

Thanks for any help.
