Nellie A. Wicker

Nellie Ada (Long) Wicker, 90, of Troy died June 17, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at White & Mahon Funeral Home Chapel in Troy, with Dr. Vann Kissell officiating. Burial will follow in Terrace Hill Cemetery in Troy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Jack Comer, Ikie long, Steve Mayo, Bob Thornton, Chad Wicker and Jerl Wicker. Honorary pallbearers will be John Brasfield, Kenneth Coleman, Herman Deboard, Jimmie Hart and J.C. Little.

The family request memorials be sent to the American Heart Association, 240 Whillington Parkway, Louisville, KY 40222-4904; or the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.

She was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Troy, daughter of the late Isham Long and Ada (Coleman) Long. She married James Wilson Wicker on March 26, 1936, and he preceded her in death in March 1999. She was a dietary technician at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., for 17 years and was a member of Troy First Baptist Church, where she was actively involved with the Butterflies.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita McEwen of Troy; three sons, Randy Wicker, Kail Wicker and Dale Wicker, all of Troy; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Daughtie Campbell of Plymouth, Mich., Trudie Thornton and Frances Cline, both of Union City, and Ruth Mayo of Debary, Fla.; and 13 nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wicker; and three brothers, Preston W. Long, Hurtle Long and Loring “Joe” Long.
