Eaker (Lum) and wife Tempy (this would be Temperance Hendrix Eaker) and baby. (If anyone knows the location of this graveyard, I'd sure love directions!)

Archie Hurley (husband of Gebo)
died July 3, 1939
Georgia Ellen Hurley died Oct. 26, 1975

Archie R.
crangle-roan-white family McNairy County

looking for clarification for Crangle roan white family. Crangles James and Catherine arrived in New Orleans 1838 on ship sidney from county Down. with children (ann b 1825) James 1926 Jane 1830 Catherine 1833 thomas 1835 and Eleanor (father james sister born 1811) I think Ann was Agnes and in 1840's married James Roan/Roun in La. and had daughters Dinah and Cecilia by 1850 were in McNairy as were some Crangles. then a name change to White (think that was Catherine's maiden name) Agnes Roan became white too in one census and then Savage (a boarder a teacher was in the Roan household in 1850 census) maybe she married him after Roan disappeared. Then by Civil War name change back to Crange. Thomas served in 6 Calvary. Any clarification on this?thank you

I am trying to find information on a gr, gr, gr uncle. His name was John Calvin "Calvin" Williamson. He was born around 1872 probably in Hardin Co., TN. But they also lived around McNairy, Gibson, Chester and Henderson Counties. His parents were George W. and Talisa Elizabeth (Hopper) Williamson. I cannot find him on any census. The only record I have of him is a listing on his father's Civil War Pension Applicatn. He is listed on there with his siblings. I have been told by several family members that he went into the mountains one day and was never heard from again. If anyone has any information about him, I would appreciate hearing from you.
RE: James Eli McDonald

I am seeking information on my great-grandfather, James Eli McDonald. James was married to Lucinda ????? about 1885. He was born in April, 1862 in Indiana, but shows up in the 1900 McNairy Co. Census with 1st wife, Lucinda, and 4 children, John R., Anna L. Lula F. and Ellen S. I believe there was one other child which had died prior to this census.

Lucinda died sometime between the 1900 Census and Jan. 1, 1905. James then married Nancy Victoria K. Allen in Mar., 1905. The couple had 3 children, 1 of which died either in infancy or very young. James died prior to the birth of his 3rd child by his second wife.

He owned property in McNairy County near what is now known as the Big Hill Pond area and was buried in a small cemetery near there. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I would especially like to know the maiden name of his first wife and where she is buried.

Of the 4 children from his first marriage which survived until the 1900 Census, only 2 survived into adulthood, Lula F., who married Arthur Jackson, and Ellen S., who married Joe Dhority. All four children were sent to Alabama to live with relatives after the death of their mother.

James died approximately the late summer or early fall of 1908 of tuberculosis or some such lung disorder.

If you know anything about this family, please contact me.

Mason Family of McNairy County, Tennessee

My husband's grandfather was William Mason (1835-1887) in McNairy County, Tennessee. William's parents were James Mason (1804NC -1880TN) and Priscilla Patterson (1814NC- TN).Have death date, but don't recall it at the moment. They came to McNairy County from North Carolina in 1834. Son, William married Sarah Catherine Floyd (1840 TN - 1919 AR). Sarah and three children: William, Sarah & Hettie moved to Arkansas after William's death. Perhaps at the same time as Sarah's father, Harmon Purdy Floyd. William and Sarah Mason's oldest son, John H Mason, settled in Oklahoma. Sarah Mason married Thomas Dewberry. Hettie married a Peace, had some children, but died fairly young.

I'm trying to locate some of the other children of James & Priscilla (one census listed Priscilla as Margaret). Lavinia (Viny) married Samuel C Plunk (Have info on them). One sister married a Misplay (Have info in missing research). OWT has her as Elizabeth, but no info. I have pictures of two of the sisters, if I can ever locate my early research again. One sister was said to have joined the Salvation Army and did a lot of traveling. I believe she married, but don't recall the surname. Priscilla and John were both age 3 in 1850, but John was missing in 1860. Henry, b 1840, was not with parents in 1860. James, b 1844, was not in the home in 1870. Only Elizabeth age 19, and Nancy 15, were with James and Pricsilla in 1870.

Found lots of James Masons of the right age, but so many, have no way of knowing which, if any, might be the right one. The same with Henry. Did they move elsewhere? Die in the Civil War? Any info on Priscilla? Or Nancy?

I am a decendant of John Kizer from McNairy County. I found records from the 1840 census placing him there. His birth is around 1808. I would be interested to know if anyone knows where he came from. I did find one John Kizer from the 1830 census in TN, but am unsure if it is the same person and where he came from before that. Any info on this Kizer line would be very welcome. Here's the direct line for anyone interested: Diana, John, William, Newton, Hardy (James, I think), John (the one I'm asking about). Thank you.

Seeking the marriage record of William Aulsey Carroll and Sarah Elizabeth Wolverton who married about 1856-1857. Since marriage records for that time period do not exist I'm hoping to find a church record for their marriage. The Woolverton/Wolvertons were Baptist and the Carrolls were Methodist. Can anyone direct me to church records of these two religions in McNairy County at that time? Thanks.

Does anyone know anything about the Turner Cemetary outside Chewalla? I think from the descriptions I have on the deed records and court records that it is located on land that once belonged to my Great Grandfather and his grave might be one of the unmarked graves out there. Does anyone know whose land it was at the turn of the century or when it was started? His name was Michael McDonough. I believe that J.A.P. Bradberry bought the land after his death

Who were his ancestors & siblings?
My g-grandfather was McNary SWIFT, 1826-1888, from Tennessee, who settled in Butler Co., KY. i was wondering if Mack EMBRY was named after the Tennessee County, or possibly thru an acquaintance with my g-grandfather?

Who was the McNary that the county was named for?

Searching the Clemmons family which lived in McNairy County, TN prior to 1850. Henry Clemmons may have moved to McNairy Co., from Williamson Co., TN. His son Elijah Clemmons was a Union soldier in the Civil War. He married Martha Plunk about 1852. She was the daugher of Joseph Plunk. Love to share if anyone is working on these same lines.

--Dave--

I have an affidavit testifying to the fact that Elisha Briant /Bryant and Thomas S. Spencer were personaly accquainted with my gr, gr, gr grandfather, William W. Williamson, and his wife, Nancy Bryant Williamson, before he went into the union Army and that they also personally knew that they were man and wife. And who their children were and when they were born. And that they lived in the same community. It is signed by Elisha Briant/Bryant and Thomas S. Spencer and is dated July 11, 1868 in McNairy Co., TN.
William's son, George W. Williamson, was my gr, gr grandfather. George Williamson married Talisa Elizabeth Hopper in 1866 in Hardin Co.
I believe that this Elisha Briant/Bryant may be Nancy Bryant Williamson's brother or relative although I have not been able to prove that yet.
I am trying to find who William W. Williamson and Nancy
Bryant's Parents and siblings were. I am hoping that maybe the Spencer and/or Briant/Bryant families may have some knowledge of them since these two say that they were accquainted with them before and after William went into the Army.
I would appreciate any help.

I have an affidavit testifying to the fact that Robert Chandler and William Inman were personaly accquainted with my gr, gr, gr grandfather, William W. Williamson, and his wife, Nancy Bryant Williamson, before he went into the union Army and that they also personally knew that they were man and wife as they were present at their wedding and were eye witnesses to the marriage. William and Nancy were married in May of 1834 in McNairy Co., TN.
It is signed by Robert Chandler and William Inman and dated Aug. 1866 in McNairy Co., TN. I believe Robert Chandler and William Inman were living in Hardin Co. at the time.
William and Nancy's son, George W. Williamson, was my gr, gr grandfather. George Williamson married Talisa Elizabeth Hopper in 1866 in Hardin Co.
Robert Chandler and William Inman are related by marriage through the Dollar and Scott families to my Williamson Family. Also, Robert Chandler Sr.'s wife, was a Cynthia/Cynthy Bryant who I believe is the sister of my gr, gr, gr grandmother, Nancy Bryant Williamson, although I have not been able to prove that yet.
I am trying to find who William W. Williamson and Nancy
Bryant's Parents and siblings were. I am hoping that maybe the Chandler and/or Inman families may have some knowledge of William Williamson or Nancy Bryant's families since these two say that they knew them well enough to be at their wedding, and before and after he went into the Army.
I would appreciate any help.
Thomas WRIGHT, anyone ??

I'm looking for anyone connected to, or that might have info about, Thomas WRIGHT that was in McNairy County on the 1860 Census. Right now, that's the only time I specifically know he was in McNairy County. He apparently lived in Mississippi some time before that, as one of his children was born there. The census states that Thomas was born in North Carolina. Since he was listed as age 30 in 1860, he would have been born sometime around 1830.

Not a lot to go one, but that's what I know so far. Hopefully, there is someone with connections to this family that might help me out. I suspect that this Thomas WRIGHT may have been the father of my gr-gr-grandmother. Her name was Ellen Louisa (or Louisa Ellen) WRIGHT. She later married a WEBSTER and then Robert F. ELKINS (she married R.F. Elkins in Weakley County).

Thanks,
Randall Baker

I’m researching Elizabeth Raines, daughter of James and Elizabeth Ann (Hughes) Raines, born 1841 in Purdy, McNairy County, TN. Do you have any info on this family. I understand the fathr and mother came from North Carolina and possibly Pennsylvania.

I have names of siblings John Alexander, James Henderson, William Jasper, Geroge Washington, Wesley Newton, Nancy Addine, and Liza. The last could be second reference to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth married James H Brown born 1837. They had a daughter Mary Idella Brown born 30 Nov 1867 in Purdy. The family subsequently moved to Muskogee OK.
