Most of these Thompson moved to other states. i descend from James Thompson who died between 1850-1860 and his family moved to Sevier County. A few of these Thompson's are uried at the Summerfield Cemetery. Any help appreciated.

I have just uncovered a note among some genealogy material that I have that said "Grandpa's mother was a Tennessee Cherokee". If this is factual, that would be Nancy Catherine Kilgore, daughter of John Kilgore and Martha Maxfield. This doesn't fit with information I now have, although the Cherokee/Choctaw connection has been a tradition with many family members. Does anyone have any historical information on Cherokee Kilgores? Rutha evidently died and James was married to a Louisa Holly in the 1880 census.

1860 Madison Co.,MO is also FM 708 James Ladd and wife Nancy and possibly James' sister Frances Ladd 18. FM 709 Harman V Ladd wife Sarah , possible sister Margaret Ladd TN.
From an un-named and un-claimed family tree on Ancestry, most are children of Noble Ladd and are listed as born in Franklin and Marion Cos.,TN.

I still can't connect how these Ladds are connected to my gg grandparents George Owens Davis and Mary Jane Stone, who came to Madison Co.,MO from Marion Co.,TN.
Sarah C. Boatner abt. 1839 born in Cherokee Ga. moved to Marion County

I'm looking for information on Sarah C. Boatner. She is the daughter of Solomon Boatner Jr. She is listed with her mother Sarah b.1820, brothers John T. b.1838 and James A. Boatner, sisters Millia L. and Celia M. both born 1849 (twins?)in the 1860 census. I cannot find her after that, except I stumbled across a tombstone in Marion County that could possibly be her. I was visiting the old Clouse cemetery in Shellmound and saw three tall tombstones. On the left was Sarah C. Clouse wife of W.C. Clouse d. Jan 25,1899, age 60 years, which would put her being born 1839. In the middle was W.C. Clouse b. Dec 1, 1839 d. Apr 24, 1908, and to the right was first wife Elizabeth wife of W.C. Clouse d. May 22, 1882 35 years old. I believe this Sarah C. raised Elizabeth's children after her death. Sarah would be around 42 years old at Elizabeth's death. Her youngest child about 3 years old?
My ggrandfather was William John Boatner b. March 13, 1862. All I know is, his mother is John A. Boatners (Uncle Bud) sister. They tell me, that his mother had him out of wedlock. An older cousin of mine (87 years) told me, " moma said that they didn't know who his father was". So I ask him who the mother was and he said he didn't know, that he didn't remember her saying. I also ask him if he thought he was a Cherokee Indian who was the father and he said, "yeah, probably was". He said they were alot of Indians left here that didn't leave on the "Trail of Tears". Also, It is said in the family that Uncle Bud was friends with the Cherokee Indians and he and the Indians would take food to the Confederate Soldiers, during the Civil war when he was twelve. By the way, my cousin looks just like a Cherokee Indian. He said when he was in the service, in WW2, his sargeant ask him, "What tribe are you from", He said I told him, "The Commanche" and laughed. This is possibly why it was a grave dark secret, all these years. She was possibly married to the Cherokee father, it just wasn't excepted by some. Or, they didn't want anyone to know because of the way the Indians were treated back then.
The reason I think it could have been Sarah C. is she is the right age. She had some other sisters old enough to have a child in 1862, but I don't know if they stayed in Cherokee Ga. or not. Their names are listed in the 1850 census of Cherokee Ga as, M.E. Boatner b.1836 and K.M. Boatner b. 1842, but they aren't listed in the Marion County Census. It would be great to know their names, but I don't. It is hard enough to track down women in families, without them leaving us initials to work with.
If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. All I've ever got out of my immediate family is, "I don't know what his parents name were".
Can anyone tell me more about Sherwood, Tn.? Is it still considered Marion co.? On the 1880, my family is in district 9, Marion county. I continue to hit a wall with Charles Henry Garner married to Emma Castle. It appears that her father Thomas W. Castle lived there too. I called some distant relatives in Chattanoogo and didn't get much further other than I did find out that Emma was disowned by her father when she married Charles Henry Garner. Supposedly, he was a very good fiddle player and some of the relatives have his fiddle. Still hope to make it that way soon. Also would like info. re: Mollie Castle Walker one of Emmas's sisters that lived at Battle Creek area. Other brothers and sisters of Emma were Dora, Charles, James and Rose Castle. I do not know which family of Garners that Charle Henry was from and would like to find this out too.
Appreciate any help.
Anne

Most of my ancestors are from Marion Co., Chattanooga, Trenton GA, & Jackson Co., AL. I have been able to find quite a bit of info on most of them. But there is one branch that I have just totally hit a brick wall. I am looking for William & Adaline Cunningham from Marion County. William was born in 1856 and Adaline was born in 1855. They were married in 1873. They had 3 children James (my GG Grandfather), Sarah & William. When my GGGrandfather was about 9 years old he and his siblings came home from school and found their house burned down and later their mother and a baby were found dead in the well by the house. The 3 children were sent to Vine Street Orphanage in Chattanooga. My GGGrandfather was adopted later on by William Marion McMahan and lived in Trenton GA. I found William & Adaline on the 1880 census but before and after that nothing. We are related to the Jackson CO. Al McMahan's through blood and adoption. I am hoping maybe someone can connect all of this somehow.

Thanks for any help

Robyn Tidwell

I have just received the Death Cert for Robert Columbus Powell.
Also one for his wife, Rhoda Patton Powell..
Mr. Powell and his brother, Hugh Powell, were both brothers of my GG
Grandmother, Catherine Powell Tinsley.
In 1880, both Powell Brothers lived in South Pittsburg. The story
handed down through my line says both brothers wre Carpenters, as was
their father, William Powell of Sullivan County, TN. The brothers laid the
wood floor in the now Historic L & N Railroad Station in Nashville.
Hugh is in nashville in 1900, Robert in South Pittsburg. Hugh's son
became a railroad engineer and they all moved to Tuscaloosa Alabama by 1910.
I was surprised to see Hugh gave the information in 1925 on Robert.
Also it did not hit me that Robert's wife, Rhoda, was Rhoda Patton and
they are buried in the Patton Cemetery.
Could you see if they have a stone for them and the exact location of
this Cemetery ? I have attached both Death Certs.
Excuse me for the bad writing. I am legally blind.
Thank you !!!!
Kevin Morgan
Retread2006@sbcglobal.net
Indianapolis, IN
I haven't posted in awhile but I always read the Marion emails--My family was from Sherwood, Tn. area. I was searching for my ggrandmother's aunt name Mollie Castle who lived around Martin Springs-Sweden Cove. She lived on Battlecreek in a primitive log house. She also had a brother that lived in that area--possible John or Charles Castle--in Martinsprings. I believe she might have been married to John J. Walker--no proof of this other than looking at the unknown cemetary records of I-24 and Martin springs rd. The pieces seem to fit together. Mollie was born in 1872. My mom remembers visiting her in the late 1940's.Her house burned up soon after in the 1950's. My grandfather remembers staying in her house when he was younger--and he is 90. Any info. appreciated.
MARION COUNTY TN

We're trying to connect a Trussell in our line out of
Marion County TN. We were led to this surname
through a transcription taken from the text
of a book, "Dicey" was also known as Dorothea Nussell.
(Immediately I believed "Nussell" to be a
transcription error.) Through death
certificates of three children we confirmed
the maiden name as Trussell.

Dicey "married" a James Holl(e)y in Marion County
sometime near 1830, (we cannot locate a marriage
contract to verify this) and in the 1840 Marion Co. TN census James Holl(e)y is enumerated on the same page with Asher and William Trussell. Five of their eleven children, Louisa,Ellen(der), Benjamin, Mary and James (his civil war
pension confirms birth in Marion Co.) were born in
Tennessee before leaving for Missouri sometime in the
early 1840's. We've been able to reconstruct their
lives in Missouri.

We’re trying to connect with someone who might
provide some insight into connecting "Dicey".
We know her husband James acquired land in Tennessee. We’re waiting for a copy of the record from the Marion County TN Genealogical Society. A James and Anna Holl(e)y are also transcribed from church record memberships for Marion County.

It’s possible “Dicey” was born Anna Dorothea Trussell.

In subsequent (Missouri) census records 1850, 1860, 1870 enumerations record her as born in Kentucky, and the 1880 Tennessee. Dicey died in December of 1896. Cemetery records record her birth date 1 August, 1812.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who might help.

How do I research them for earlier records in this county?

This Burgess family left North Carolina after the 1800 census.
So much took place during the years between 1800 and 1830 that I find impossible to trace, does anyone have a suggestion?

Does anyone know if any of the Cherokee families that appear on Blankenship's Reservation Roll of 1817 were given lands (640 acres tracts, in lieu of emigration) in this area?

Any help in a direction to follow wolud be greatly appreciated!

Regards
Cathy
