You may be correct. But may I please share a couple of observations I've made regarding Emeline?
First, on the 1850 census where she is living in the home of Isaac and Ellen, the birthplace for Emeline is given as TN.
BUT. . . .
On the 1860 census where Emeline is married to William Ryan, it gives her birthplace as NC.
I am quite aware that one cannot count on the accuracy of census takers.
I truly had concluded that the Emeline/Emily SMITH who married William Ryan was the daughter of Joshua SMITH (1850 census in Lauderdale Co., TN) (wife unknown, who had several children born in NC, and one was Euphemia E.,(believed to be Euphemia Emeline) born about 1834.
I may have concluded wrongly. I would love to know what happened to William and Emily RYAN (all spellings)after the 1860 census. That might help me follow through to see if I have drawn erroneous conclusions or if I have further connections.
Is there any chance that Isaac, Joshua and Levi SMITH are related and came from North Carolina about 1839-1840? I did find Joshua in Haywood Co. on the 1840 census. I never find him after the 1850 census in Lauderdale County, TN.
I descend from Joshua's daughter, Sarah Green SMITH. (Interesting that Sarah SMITH, age 14, is living with the RYANS on that 1860 census, but is this my GGrandmother as I had concluded? YIKES!! It appears that Isaac and Ellen also had a daughter named Sarah (born about 1839 who would have been 21 by the time of the 1860 census.)
My G Grandmother, Sarah SMITH would have been 14 by the time of the 1860 census and is the same age as the Sarah SMITH living with the RYANS in 1820.)I hope that is all clear and it is all part of the process I've used to determine who is who.
If you know, please pass on any information which may shed further light onto the matter. Please feel free to discuss this further.
With regards,
Martha
