I am searching for Samuel Blair, born 1845 in Tennessee, wife, Lucey Blair, Children, Sallie, Arthur., and Amie, I have found that his father was Eli Blair however with the census it is hard to find any more on Eli Blair, I would like to know if any one can find or has heard of this family Eli was found in Sevier County TN. Earliest census i can find on him is the 1850 cenus His wife is listed as Elizabeth, their children are, Nancy, Samuel, and Hirman, This family is African American, there are alot of Blair families that are white and the some census do not clairfy the fact, I almost beleive that Eli Blair parents were Hugh Blair whom came from Irlend but not able to prove that this line was white or African American, also not able to prove connection yet. As i said any help would be appreciated, I am searching this line for a friend. Also, My email address has changed since my last posting you can email me at frntrd@aol.com

calling all descendants of Rawley or Raleigh Madding !

Hello Madding/Roberson cousins,
The grave marker of Rawley Madding (1785-1855) was recently discovered in an overgrown, abandoned cemetery in the Bailey Springs area near Florence, Alabama. Rawley was born in Pittsylvania Co. VA, served in the War of 1812 and moved to Maury Co. in the 1820s where he lived until his death. He had 19 living children at the time of his death through marriages to Sally Mays and Sally Bridgeman. Many of these children ended up in W. TN and W. KY including my own 3rd grandmother Anne T. Madding Roberson (wife of Wm. "Billy" Roberson) and many descendants lived (or still live) in the Obion Chapel area between Troy and Hornbeak, with other groups in Lake Co., Fulton Co. KY etc... A young Eagle Scout candidate, Davis Faulkner and his family, friends etc.. in the Florence, AL area are cleaning up, refencing, marking and preserving the cemetery and are planning to hold a dedication ceremony this Memorial Day. They are also looking for funds to help in the restoration of the cemetery (particularly refencing). Please contact me if you are interested in this project. Attached is a photo of Rawley's marker (long thought to have been buried in Maury Co. in an unmarked grave). This is a great project and they have already obtained historic cemetery designation from the State of Alabama. Only about 4 graves are still marked in this cemetery after 160 or so hard years! Help preserve our ancestor's memory for future generations!
I have a small packet of info that I can snail mail if interested.
This link will also take you to my posted info at the rootsweb world connect project:
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=dajones&I11.x=...
Thanks, David Jones in Richmond, MI, 3rd great grandson of Billy and Anne Madding Roberson
Daughter Juanita McKnight married Jack Hazelrigg. I have also seen some connections to Myrtis Alice Moore Stanley. I look forward to hearing from folks who might know these families. Thank you, Priscilla

Griffin Research

I have finished my Griffin research in the Lake and Obion counties. Initially, it was difficult because I live in Colorado and I could not come to the court houses and libraries to copy information--and I had very little money to work with and so I decided not to hire a research person. However, as luck would have it, I was fortunate to get help from two sources: (1) Marty who sent me a copy of the Griffin pages from the Crockett Chapel Cemetery - Crockett Chapel United Methodist Church and (2) Isabelle Rogers Algee with whom I spoke many times by phone and exchanged many e-mails; Isabelle gave me so much help and direction. Isabelle has written many books about the families there in Lake and Obion counties--and a great deal about the Griffin family of which I am interested. Of the many books she has written, I will mention three: Crocket Chapel Cemetery; Moorings and Allied Families, and her latest, Griffins and Allied Families.

Best Wishes

Phyllis Grizzell Waddell
Need Marriage record for Simpson/Reagan

I would appreciate any lookups or suggestions as to how I can locate the marriage record for my ggrandmother Frances/Fannie Mae/May REAGAN (Regan, Riggin, etc.) and James SIMPSON. On the 1910 Lake Co. census, they are shown as having been married 2 years, but I have no idea where they married. Frances was in Weakley Co with father and brothers on the 1900 census---I've been unable to find Mr. SIMPSON in 1900. It is possible he had been married previously.

Does anyone know if Lake Co used marriage applications about 1908? I would love to find any application, license, or certificate for this couple.

Frances was in Caruthersville, Pemiscot, Mo. about 1915/16 and married Robert NICHOLS in 1918. She died in 1960 in Steele, Pemiscot, Mo. In some of her old photos, I found some pictures of some SIMPSON's and EVANS's. One is of a Burnie SIMPSON. I found some records for a Burnie Simpson in KY, IN, CO, & IL which I believe to all be the same person. I would like to solve this mystery and determine if this Burnie is the same one as in the picture, and if he was perhaps a son of Frances's 1st husband, James SIMPSON.
Thanks
Jewel

Hello,

I am trying to find more information on Louis & Carolina Cowell, and establish/confirm the connection between the Malin’s and the Cowell’s.

James Monroe Cowell’s obituary says, "When 7 years old he came to this county (meaning Dunklin Co. MO) with his aunt, Mrs. John Malin, his parents having both died in Tennessee when he was small".

The 1870 District 2, Lake County, TN., census shows:
(137 140)
Louis M. Cowell, abt 1814 (my gg-grandpa)
Carolina Cowell, abt 1832 (maiden name ?)
Sarah A. Cowell, abt 1853 (?)
Minerva Cowell, abt 1863 (marries Benj C. Adkins)
James Monroe Cowell, abt 1866 (my g-grandpa)

(136 139)
John Malin, abt 1840
Susan E. Malin, abt 1844
James T. Malin, abt 1861
Wm H. Malin, abt 1864
Mary I. Malin, abt 1867
Louisa Malin, abt 1870
Elizabeth Key, abt 1798

To jump ahead, John & Susan have a son, Charles that is 7 months old on the 1880 Dunklin Co., MO census. I found a death certificate for Charles on the MO site and it has Susan’s maiden name as KEY. I believe she is the daughter of Holloway & Elizabeth Key.

If Susan Key Malin was the aunt to James Monroe Cowell, I am thinking that Carolina Cowell’s maiden name was Key. However, I have not been able to find her other than on the 1870 census.

Any information on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Judy
I am Pamela Rush Jenkins and I'm trying to get in touch with Jan Gustafson. Her grandmother Lena and my grandfather were cousins, although he was considered a brother to her because her father Augustus Monroe Permenter raised him after his mother died.

Jan and I met several years ago and then lost touch. I hope to hear from her soon.

Marriage Lookup?

Does anyone have access to an index of marriages in Lake County that took place in the 1870's? I'm trying to find out when John H. Reeves (or Reaves/Rives/Rieves) married a woman named Fannie. It's possible Fannie's surname was Sherrill. Other spelling variations include Sherrell, Sharel, Sharrel, etc.

The couple's oldest son was born about 1877, so it's likely they married not too long before that. If anyone has access to a marriage index and can search for John between 1872-1877, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your time and assistance! :-)

Cemetery Lookup - John Reeves

Does anyone have access to cemetery transcriptions in Lake County? I've looked through the Lake County USGenWeb site, but haven't come across the information I'm seeking.

I'm searching for John H. Reeves/Reaves/Rives. He was born about 1853 in Tennessee and I'm trying to determine if he died in Lake County between 1880 and 1884 (he's on the 1880 census). John's son is also named John H. Reeves, so it's important to keep an eye out on the dates. I've run across the son several times, but can't find much on the father!

If anyone has access to cemetery transcriptions (possibly an alphabetical index), I'd greatly appreciate a quick lookup. :-)

Thank you for your time and assistance!

My great grandfather was Odell Crocker correctly Franklin Odell he was married to Fanny Wallace,my grandfather was born in 1915 Odell is susposed to be buried in Madie Cemetery which I am told has changed to New Haven. Odell was born in 1884 his brother in law Dewitt Shankle either sold or gave him two lots in that cemetery. I have not been able to get anyone to respond about this information. Is there a church near the cemterty I am told he went to church right next to it.
My grandfather was Roscoe Elton Crocker "DAN" he married Donna Bell McCants. Her father was Felix McCants.
Odell's house burned to the ground taking with it all family documents, including my grandfathers birth Cert. There is a marker in New Haven cemetery with JF Crocker on it. If anyone knows if this is Odell's please let me know or if you have ever heard of my family. They lived there for quite a long time. If anyone could do a census look up for me it would be a true blessing.
Thank you

I am seeking any information on myers family of lake county and perkins family of lake county. Hazel Perkins (Myers), John F. Myers, Geoffrey W. Myers, Joseph Perkins. Hazel and Geoffrey had adopted a baby boy in 1956, my father, and i am looking for any information on birth parents or adopted parents. Birth father might have been a Lawler/Lawlor or possibly a Myers as the actuall birth father. The adoption was apparently set up by an Opal Kirkpatrick. Any info would be nice. Thank you guys alot.

J Myers
jmyers2382@wmconnect.com
ship@dillonimporting.com

His father was Joseph Edward Stephens, born ca 1873(?), died 1950's in Ridgely. Joseph Edward was raised in orphanage in KS according to family lore. 1900 census show's Joseph Edward Stephens' father John living with him in Tenn. Any other information out there? Possible twigs of family tree that would like to correspond?
I am doing some research on my husband's family. I have hit a wall concerning his GGF, J. T. Bailey, b. 1876 d. 1945. All my father-in-law remembers is that J.T. Bailey m. Rosa B. and had children, Isaac Luther (I.L.) b. Feb 10, 1900, Esther, and others (names unknown). My father-in-law also remembers that J.T. was a blacksmith in Trimble or Parsons in Lake County. I am guessing this job might be in the mid 1900's. Is there any info or help you can provide us?

Thanks,
Sandra Bailey
