I received a copy of my g-grandfather's death certificate today from the State of TN. He was AUGUSTUS MONROE PERMENTER and he died on January 18, 1929. The undertaker is listed as Peoples Hardware and Grocery Co in Tiptonville. Does anyone know anything about this undertaker?
The death certificate states that he apparently died alone and was buried by neighbors. He had two married daughters, Lena Permenter Crouson and Roxie Permenter Bell) living in Hornbeak at the time. It is also my understanding that his wife, FRANCES MELTON PERMENTER, died either four days prior or four days after "Monroe" died. I can't imagine why he was buried by neighbors, but the informant was a Walter Penny from Wynnberg. It states that he was buried in Lake County, TN (I believe at Crockett Chapel Cemetery) on
January 19, 1929.
I would appreciate any information on the Peoples Hardware and Grocery Co's undertaking business. Also, if anyone recalls the Permenter family in Lake County.
