I am looking for information on the family of Daniel Thomas and Ann Richards. They were married between 1850-1852, I believe in Montour County. They had five children that I know of: Mary (b-abt. 1852), John (1854-1884), Elizabeth (b-abt 1856), Leah (b-abt 1858), and David (b-abt 1861). According to Daniel's obituary they had seven children living at his death, but they were not named. Daniel was born Dec 25,1825 in Wales and died Dec 25, 1869 in Knoxville, Tennessee. I am not sure when Ann died other than she outlived Daniel. Their son, John, died in Danville, Schuylkill Co., PA. Their other son, David, died in Knoxville, TN.

I'm in desperate need of this self-published book:

Campbell kith and kin: Descendents of Archibald Campbell and Elizabeth Baker, who came from Campbell County, Virginia, to Knox County, Tennessee, 1796 (Unknown Binding)by Grace Spencer Fassnacht (Author)

I know it is in 4-5 university research libraries and a Knoxville library. (None of which are remotely close by). My line homesteaded in Nebraska. I have it on Google books, but can only glean the snippets. I’ve purchased and seen these self-published books before and have found that many copies may be retained by the author or family members of the author. Does anyone know who Grace Spencer Fassnacht is? The book was published in Chattanooga. I am a direct descendant of said, Archibald Campbell and Elizabeth Baker and would truly like to get my hands on a copy of this. I’m very close to breaking through the “Brick Wall” part of my linage and I’m excited to find out what information this book contains. This book contains information of Archibald’s linage which is what I need most, but also contains a wealth of knowledge about his descendants which I have not yet documented.

I can’t say that money is no object, but I would buy a copy in any condition. Any info on this book or author would be much appreciated.
John F. Sutton Family

Looking for any family information on:

John F. Sutton, born May 10, 1825 in Knox County, Tennessee and died May 10, 1915 in Morris Township, Texas County, Missouri. He is presently buried at Murr Cemetary, located just outside of Mountain Grove, Missouri.

His father's name was also John Sutton, place of birth and age unknown. He might have been born in Virginia, but I'm not sure on that. His mother's name is unknown.

John F. Sutton married Mary Burress/Burris? She was born abt 1825-1826 somewhere in Tennessee.

Together they had the following children:

Ann Sutton, born abt 1858 in Tennessee.

Nancy C. Sutton, born abt 1861 in Tennessee.

Jacob L. Sutton, born abt 1864 in Tennessee.

Jacob Burress/Burris, born abt 1858 in Tennessee. He evidently lived with John F. and Mary later after they moved to Monroe/McMinn County in Tennessee. He's probably the brother to Mary, but I'm not sure.

John A. Burress/Burris, born abt 1797 in Tennessee. He also lived with John F. and Mary. He's probably Mary's father, but I'm not sure on him either.

**Nancy C. Sutton's name could possibly be "Nancy Carolin" or "Carolin". She is listed in the Monroe County, Tennessee 1870 Census as "Carolin Sutton".

**John Sutton's middle name could possibly be "Francis". I've located a few later documents with his name listed as "John F./Francis Sutton" I just need confirmation on this.

****John, Mary, Ann, Nancy Carolin, and Jacob are listed on the Monroe County, Tennessee 1870 Census. Evidently they all moved from Monroe County to McMinn County during the 1870's-1880's. They later moved to Morris Township, Texas County, Missouri.

Thanks, James Sutton

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am looking for a Joseph J. Price. He was born in Jan of 1879 in Knoxville, TN. His parents were Thomas Rees Price and Ann Maria Richards. He has one sister, Mary, who was born in 1885. Joseph was working in his father's furniture company as a bookkeeper. Next is where I need help. Most of this information is just what my father told me. Sometime after his father's death in 1906 (and after the 1910 census) Joseph left Knoxville, supposedly to "head west" as a way to escape from taking charge of the family company. He was said to have called or written a couple of times. He also might have changed his name. I am not sure if this is correct, but I would really like to find out what happened to him. I do have a picture of him on my blog (mommasfamily.blogspot.com). I would appreciate any help!

Col. James Monroe TROUTT, 1883-1951

I am researching Col. James Monroe TROUTT, born 22 Jul 1883 in Jackson, Madison, TN, died 30 Jun 1951 in Knoxville, Knox, TN, and is buried in Lynhurst Cemetery in Knoxville. James graduated from Vanderbilt University Medical School in June 1906, and by 18 Jun 1906 had been certified to practice medicine in Jackson, Madison, TN.

Sometime after 1910, James joined the US Army as career officer in the Medical Corps, where he served as a surgeon at Fort Sill, OK; the Army and Navy General Hospital in Hot Springs, Garland, AR; and at the Army Hospital in Honolulu. James retired at the rank of Colonel.

In about 1908, James married Jessie B. unknown (perhaps SPARKS???), born 29 Apr 1883 in Knoxville, died sometime after 1951, perhaps in Knoxville. They had at least two children, Clay B. TROUTT b. 8 Jun 1912 in Jackson, Madison, TN, and James M. TROUTT, III, born 9 Nov 1912 in Knoxville, Knox, TN.

James Monroe TROUTT died 30 Jun 1951, Knoxville, Knox, TN. He was an accomplished surgeon, with articles published on blood transfusion procedures and similar medical issues.

My research problem is that his parents are reported as “Judge J.M. TROUTT” and wife Miranda PROVINCE. I have not been able to identify this couple in census or any other records, and accordingly, cannot determine Judge J. M. TROUTT’s full name or his ancestral line. Since Dr. TROUT had a son James Monroe TROUTT, III, it can be assumed that the Judge was also a James Monroe TROUTT.

Can some kind soul shed any light on the full name and ancestry of “Judge J.M. TROUTT,” as well as any additional information on wife Miranda PROVINCE? There may be an obituary, vertical file, or biography in some local Knoxville and/or Jackson repository.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Craig H. Trout

Loudoun County, VA

I would like to know the burial site of Ralph & Susannah Shelton. Ralph died in the summer of 1818, It is not known when Susannah died. They attended The North of Holston Church from 1793 until 1804. This Church later became The County Line Baptist Church. It was originally in Hawkins County, then fell in Granger County in 1796. Ralph & Susannah moved to Knox County in about 1806. Proven children of Ralph & Susannah are Cuthbert, Richard, John, Nancy, & there is good evidence for Mary & Judith. Other children may have existed. Joel is a good posibility. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mary Elizabeth Russell born 1849
5. Emaline born 1855
and of course my ancestor Elijah Burgess Russell
the Father of James William Russell, Elijah had more than one wife which confuses the research but Elijah and Mary Elizabeth Spencer had many children together, James was their ninth, found her and Elijah on the missouri archived birth records and James was their ninth child born in 1884
it appears that Elijah's first two children had a different Mother- they are Esta May and a bertie Bertie may have died early but i could not make out the name of Esta's Mother it was something like Nauri on the 1850 census
Elijah later married after the death of Mary Elizabeth Spencer to Mary Elizabeth Cowen who was the Mother of Robert Shavespeare Russell and Mary Elizabeth Cowen outlived Elijah , she was quite young when she married this old man.
Then someone saw the russell Family of elijah on a census and had them incorrectly sealed all the children to Mary Elizabeth Cowen who was their stepmother not their Mother- sloppy research as Mary Elizabeth cowen was ten years old when James was born.
I really feel sad when such incorrect mistakes are made in genealogy when it is so obviously incorrect, the submitter was Kim Esry of Moberly, Missouri and she isn't around to correct the error. The mistake was made in LDS church records.

Hello, I am looking for my great aunt. Have been searching over a year and just yesterday I found someone who I think may be her in the SSDI (social security death index) but im not sure. So I am looking for an obit with no luck yet. Her name was Lillie Garner. The SSDI has Lillie M. Garner DOB: June 06, 1914 and DOD April 12, 2007. Her SS# was issued in Ga and the residence of death was in Knoxville, Knox Tn 37918 her SS# was 252-24-0810
My aunt was Lillie bonds before she married a Garner. She was born in Ga. I have obits of her parents and it states she lived in Knoxville at their time of death which was back in 1967 and 1972. I know nothing of her husband but his last name being Garner and they did have a son that I have pics of named Tommy Garner. If someone could do an obit lookup for me I would really appreciate it!!! I looked on knoxnews.com and found a Lillie Garner that passed in Sept of 2007 but it is not the same one. Thanks so much!
I am looking for relatives or friends of the late Army Air Force Private Lester F. Blalock of Knoxville. He was born on March 13, 1910, enlisted in the Army Air Force on October 2, 1942, and died on May 18, 1944 in the crash of his aircraft in Southeast Asia. There is a monument in his memory in Knoxville National Cemetery. His wife was Clara Blalock, and his next of kin was listed as Mary Blalock of Knoxville. I have just been informed that the wreckage of his aircraft was discovered in Southeast Asia, along with his remains, as indicated by the presence of his dog tag at the crash site. Please contact me at garyngina@earthlink.net.

John Willoughby Rogers founded Courtesy Cab Company in Knoxville, TN. Started approx: 1930-1935. He ran this company for sometime, selling out to a larger cab company. Family history has it that the larger cab company was putting radios in all their cabs and offered to buy John Rogers out, retaining him for employment. I would like to get the name of the cab company who bought him out.

I am also searching for information on John Willoughby Rogers who I believe was born somewhere around the Knox/Anderson County lines. He was b:7/26/1897 to William W.Rogers and Ellen Jane Cates Rogers. Anyone with any remote information on the Rogers side please respond. Thanks.

Nancy must be Mary's sister, but who is Ruth? Is she William's mother, remarried? Can someone find her in 1850??? Coincidentally, William and Mary's son, Joe married Sarah Jane Lane in 1894 in Knox Co., TN. I also have these Smith's in 1870 & 1880.

ALSO-------
In the 1900 Knox Co., TN Census I have found 'Pollie' (Mary Ann) as head of household, born May 1832, 68yrs, widowed, married 40yrs, farmer, had 7 children-5 still living

And also in the house is HAYES, Alex, grandson, b. April 1882, 18yrs, single....and Clora(?), granddaughter, b. Dec 1887, 12yrs, single, at school. One of William and Mary Ann's daughter's, Rebecca, married G. W. Hayes in May 1876. However, I cannot find them anywhere in census. Rebecca died in 1889. I know nothing of G. W.

Would really appreciate any help with census previous to 1880. Does anyone know where to access the 1840 & 1850 census?

Thanks in advance.

I am looking for all the information I can get on Nathaniel Mason. It is suggested that he may have been a son of George Mason but it has never been proven one way or another.

I have the following information about Nathaniel Mason.

"Daniel and Nathaniel Mason who were probably brothers, were the first of that name in Roane County. Their relationship to Col. George Mason has not been proven, but according to Goodspeed's History of East Tennessee "Daniel (1770?80??1839) came to Fort South West Point as a young man from the Potomac River in either VA or MD. Nathaniel Mason married (7?9?1901) Phoebe Brashears, daughter of Robert Samuel Brashears. Daniel Mason married (3?6?1797) Phoebe's sister, Mary "Polly" Brashears, who was the well?to?do young widow of Robert Gilliland who had bought in 1794 (Knox Book C, p.22) 640 acres on the north side of Clinch River from Reed and Swaggerty."

...and.....

Nathaniel Mason & Phoebe Brashear. Nathaniel b 1769 VA, he married Phoebe Brashear during 1801 in Knox Co, TN. Nathaniel in 1805 Early Tennessee Census Knox Co., 1811 perhaps in Lawrence Co, TN. 1830 lived in Shelby Co, TN. Son Jesse H Mason b 1802 m Polly Ruth; son Alexander abt 1810; daughter Margaret m George Speer; daughter Elizabeth m John Speer.

Again I am looking for any information about where Nathaniel Mason came from. Also looking for family of Nathaniel's children except for Jesse H. Mason.

Thanks, Chris

I am looking for info on what happened to Mahala Childress Doyle, the widow of James Pleasant Doyle killed by John Brown at the Potawattomie Creek massacre in KS in 1856. I know she returned to Chattanooga, TN in November 1856 and her only surviving son became a trooper in Wheeler's 2nd Confederate Cav during the war. If anyone had her obituary that would be great, also any news articles from TN about her, the massacre, etc. Also I know she is buried near Lookout Mountain somewhere, not sure if this is correct. But, would also like a photo of her resting place. Thanks for any help!
