Seeking information on John G.W. RICE married Lavina Jane SMITH in Jefferson County on 26 July 1827. Moved from Jefferson County to Decatur Tennessee sometime between 1830 and 1850. Was on 1850 Decatur County Census. There were RICE families in Jefferson County that had ties to Connecticut - (Augustus RICE), North Carolina (William Presley RICE) and perhaps Maryland (Spencer RICE who died in Morgan County Alabama in 1808. Joel RICE from the Caswell County North Carolina RICE family also lived in Morgan County Alabama. Joel RICE was the brother of John RICE who was killed by indians on the Cumberland River in 1792. John RICE had large amount of land in early Tennessee granted him by the state of North Carolina). Need help sorting out the RICE falmily connections for this group. John G.W. RICE was my gggrandfather. Have not tried to unravel Lavina Jane's family. Researching the SMITH family is like trying to end world hunger. The only thing I know about her was she was born in North Carolina in 1813.

Any help greatly appreciated.
