According to Jill Garrett's Sketches of Hickman County (page 97) William Whitson of Buncomb Co, N. C. who married Ann McDowell had among his children one Samuel Whitson of Hickman County and a George Whitson who was dead by 1935.
Samuel settled in Shipps Bend. My question is did this George Whitson marry a Pricilla Vance? Second question Whitson's Bend was named for a Major William P. Whitson Jr.who was the son of a George Whitson of East Tennessee. Was this George the same George mentioned above? Next, Beth Slater Whitson's father was John Humble Whitson, his father was Dr. Asa Whitson (who was shot in the back during the Civil War). Yet buried in the Whitson cemetary is a Dr. Asa Whitson ((1858-1936)which means he could not have been in the Civil War. Was there a second generation Asa Whitson who was also a Doctor. Finally, who was Asa Whitson's parents? I recognize I'm asking a lot but would love a hit on any of it. Samuel was my line and most happy to share any info I have re his line.
