John Alston Jones obit 192?
Well, I've pretty well given up on getting past my own Hickman County Jones roadblock (Willie/William/Willis S. Jones 1830-1861) although my closest Y dna test matches are with a Brewer and Welch from Chatham Co., NC and there may be a clue there and in the following old undated clipped-out newspaper obit for John Alston Jones I recently obtained.
Here is the text of the obit:
John A. Jones dies Monday
Former Hickman Countian Dies at Home in Nashville
John Alston Jones died Monday at his home at 833 Grove Ave., Nashville, after a several days illness at the age of 69 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Jones, and two daughters, Mrs. J. O. Walker of Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs. Joe Frank Porter of Franklin and by two sons, O. L. and R. H. Jones of Nasville.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. S. Morton and Rev. A. S. Derryberry with interment at My. Olivet.
Mr. Jones was a man of exceptional strength of character. For years he was prominently identified with the business interests in this section of the state. He was for many years a prominent merchant at Little Lot and was actively engaged in real estate and other lines of business previous to his removal to Nashville. Since his residence in that city he has been the senior member of the milling firm of J. A. & O. L. Jones.
