The surname is Malcolm. I've seen it in Henry County spelled Milcom, Milcum, Malcom, Malcomb, Melcom, Marcrum and Malcolm. I know they owned land in District 20 based on the 1870 and 1900 Census. I also know that William M. Malcolm's land was sold after he died to Carter E. Moody between 1890 and 1901 by Pleasant Malcolm. I know that William lived near Benjamin H. Angel who also lived in District 20.

Any help would be appreciated.
William R. Henry and Martha Hurst Henry are my great grandparents. I can not find anything on William R Henry after the 1930 census. In the 1930 census they lived in Anderson Co TN and worked the coal mines. Their son Walter is listed as head of household, also son Charles and family living with them. In the 1930 census for Harlan Co KY their other two sons and families David Bruce Henry and Edward J Henry are living there, also working in mines. I finally found Martha Hurst Henry's death cert. and obit in Harlan Co KY. She died 6 Apr 1942 listed as widowed. Her obit states she has been a resident of Harlan Co KY for the past 12 years, which would put her moving there in 1930. I can not find William R. Henry's death in any state nor do I have a good link to his parents. Could anyone have some information to help. Thank you

My uncle's records indicate that between 1833 and 1835 a wagon train left Paris,TN (Henry County). It consisted of 50 families, mostly DAVIS, STEWART, Casey, Arbaugh, and Buche. They eventually ended up in Arkansas. As I'm descended from JOHN HENRY DAVIS who was on this wagon train, I'm trying to determine if Paris was simply the starting point for the trek or if these families may actually have lived in the area. Does anyone know about this part of Paris' history?
I'm really stuck on the origins of this Davis line and would greatly appreciate any help or information provided.

The nearby family cemetary is the burial place for the people who we think built the house in 1897. Their names were Thomas J. Edwards and wife Josephine Boswell Edwards. Mr. Edwards lived his whole life in Henry County and Mrs. Edwards was from Stewart County (according to their obit.) Any information about their descendents would be most appreciated. They both died September, 1926.

Isaac and Lucinda (Elliott) ACRES from Barren Co. KY have been listed as "a prominent or well-established family" of Henry Co. I once believed his father might be Uriah, who sold some land south of Cumberland River. Does anyone have information on this family, or on William and Adam ATCHISON and Francis MONROE families - listed in the 1840 Henry Co. Census? I would also like to connect James D. WILSON, born about 1820 and married to Jane Brewer (their daughter Mary Frances married Benjamin Franklin Akers), with other possible Henry Co. Wilson ancestry. Thank you.

Looking for any information on Willie Tucker who married Flora. Flora was my great aunt. Not sure what her maiden name was. Her brother, Robert was adopted by Willis Oliver and Effie Caroline Sled. Their brother, Clarence, was adopted by a Murphy family. Flora remained with their mother. I am told her name was Mary Elizabeth Smith. Aunt Flora was in the Henry Co. area. I know she is deceased but my Grandmother use to write to her quite often. Flora had children: Eleanor who lived in Gleason, TN, Carol and O'Neal maybe. If anyone knows anything of any of the aforementioned, please contact me. Robert Oliver still has 2 children living in FL and his daughter and I are looking for answers relating to our family history. Also, Gilly Ann Angel & George Wimberly who lived in the Henry Co., TN area. Please contact me directly with any information at cherrino75@yahoo.com. Their families settled in Henry County (Paris), Dyer County (Dyersburg), and Carroll County (McKenzie).
Need info re: Daniel Perry b.1785 in NC then moved to Carroll County at some point. He had a son named Daniel Jackson Perry (a.k.a. "Jack"), born in Carroll County 4-14-1822. Other children with his (unknown) wife were Evan, John Levi, Lucinda, Mary Jane, Adeline, Elizabeth Jane, Amanda, Edward, Commodore, and Eldridge, a.k.a. "E.T.". I know in 1827 he was apointed to help lay out the road from Huntingdon, Carroll County TN to Henry County TN. I especially would like to know his wife's name and/or any tidbit of information about any of these Perry's. Thank-You.

My great-grandpa William Henry Thomas was born in/near Paris on 2/7/1861; he eventually found his way to Pottawattamie County, Iowa by 1885, where he married Clara Bell Storrs. He & she had four kids who survived infancy; after her death in 1899, the kids were dispersed to various family members and William Henry went to Colorado, where he lived in Larimer County until his death in 1947.

Has anyone in their research run across a Thomas family in Henry County that had a William Henry of this age? I can't find him for certain in either the 1870 or 1880 Census, so I don't know his parents.

I am trying to find the location of the Lebanon campground, where the Methodist Church held revivals in the 1850's. I found a reference to this in an abstract from the Nashville Christian Advocate in February 1915. The article was a tribute to Dr. John Hutchison Witt of Paris, TN who had just recently died. In the original article, my great-great grandfather Dr. A.P. Warterfield (1834-1928) recalled meeting Dr. John Hutchison Witt (1832-1915) at a Methodist revival there in 1855. Dr. Warterfield and his family lived in Cottage Grove, TN from 1862 to around 1877, when they moved to McKenzie.

I am looking for twins born to Mary Bentley Wyatt and husband, William Henry Wyatt, on 9 June 1918 in Letcher Co., KY. Their mother, Mary Wyatt, died 5 October 1918 -- found dead in bed at age 25 in Etty (Pike Co.), KY. I cannot find the twins in the 1920 census when they would have been 2 years old, but in 1930 they are age 11 and living with their maternal aunt and uncle in Pike Co., KY -- John D. and Susan Bentley (the twins were NOT with them in 1920).

My speculation is that Mary went home to her parents for the birth and did not do well after the twins were born and remained there in Pike County, KY under their care. Mary died just 4 months after the births and her brother, Alex Bentley, provided information for her death certificate; she is listed as "Mary Wyatt - married", but her husband's name is not on the certificate, so he may still have been in Letcher County, KY. Mary was buried on the home place of W. M. Bentley, her father, on October 6, 1918.

The mother of the twins, Mary Bentley Wyatt (b. Mar 1893 Pike Co., KY), was the daughter of William M. Bentley and Bethena Johnson. Their father was William Henry Wyatt (b. 1896), the son of Ida Wyatt. William Henry Wyatt married a second time to Golda (Goldie) Neal about 1922 and had more children.

Look up please cemetery records/book/other of Henry Co. TN

If anyone has cemetery records or access to records for Henry Co. TN, would you mind checking for:

1- surname SWEATT, other spelling might be Sweet

2- specifically COOPER C. SWEATT died around Aug.6, 1932, in Henderson Co. TN

A new source has indicated, he believes that COOPER's remains were sent back to HENRY CO. TN for burial.

Cooper was a former mayor of Lexington, Henderson Co. TN.
He logically should have been buried in Lexington City Cemetery, Lexington, TN, however, visits by various folks have not found his grave although his wife was buried there.
His death certificate lists Lexington, TN, as burial but we have found no grave for him in cemetery records of Henderson Co. TN.

Were there any newspapers in Henry Co. TN for 1932 that might help me, perhaps a Paris, TN newspaper? I believe it would have been newsworthy, Cooper's remains being brought back to Henry Co. TN. The SWEATT brothers were very prominent in Lexington, Henderson Co. TN.

Thank you for any help, suggestions.

Linda, Researching Sweatt/Elkins/Galloway of Henderson CoTn

Collins in Henry County

Folks,

Here is my dilema:

1. There was a Mordicai Collins born about 1766, who married a Susannah Robertson on November, 1790 in Louisa Co., VA.
2. They had a least 2 sons, Dillard W. Collins and Nemrod(Nimrod) R. Collins.
3. Dillard W Collins was born October 2, 1784 in VA and died July 27, 1856 in Henry Co, TN. He married Mary Ann Cooks July 14, 1819 in Christian Co, KY.
4. Nemrod(could be Nimrod) R Collins was born 1797 in Orange Co., VA and died in Henry Co, TN. He married Sarah Ann Clure.
5. My great great grandfather was born to one of these two families - John G Collins.
6. John G Collins buried May 13, 1863 in Como, Henry Co, TN. He was married to Isabellah Jeraline Ellison February 5, 1857 in Henry Co, TN.

I have tried Jack Spaulding, Carol Traywick, Beverly Conolly, and others.

Any of you folks have anything on Mordicai, Dillard W, or Nemrod(Nimrod) or John G Collins?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What a mess we Collins are! Keep records!

1917 Confederate Veterans Reunion at Paris, TN

COMMERCIAL APPEAL
Memphis, TN
September 16, 1917

____________________

REUNION AT FAIR.

__________

Veterans of Kentucky and Tennessee to Gather at Paris.

PARIS, Tenn., Sept. 15.—There will be a reunion of Confederate veterans of Western Tennessee and Western Kentucky in Paris four days of the coming week—Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday—and it will be one of the most complete and equally enjoyable affairs of this kind ever held in this section, if the plans, as outlined by Mrs. Alexander B. White mature, as it now seems they will. Mrs. White is probably known to more Confederate veterans than any woman in the United States, on account of her prominence in this kind of work as director-general of the Shiloh monument fund.
The reunion will be held at the Henry County Fair Grounds during the fair and all veterans will be admitted free of charge on Saturday, Veterans’ Day, and will be given all courtesies possible by Henry Countians.
Col. Robert E. Lee, Jr., of Virginia, the grandson of the much beloved Gen. Robert E. Lee, will be the principal speaker.
Mrs. White, the chairman of the reunion committee, has given out her programme, which is as follows:

Wednesday, Sept. 19—Registration and “get acquainted” day. All Confederate veterans expected to come to the Woodmen Hut and register.
Thursday—Entertainment of visiting veterans by Fitzgerald and Joe Kendall camps of local veterans.
Friday—Informal reception at Woodmen’s Hut, fair grounds, by Fifth Tennessee Regiment Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, at 11 o’clock. At night a special programme at Dixie Theater.
Saturday, (Veterans’ Day)—Grand parade of decorated automobile from Paris to fair grounds, 9:30 a.m.; silk flags of U. D. C. chapters of Henry County, borne by horsemen; school children carrying flags join parade just inside fair grounds.
At 10:30 at the speaker’s stand at the fair grounds the following programme will be carried out:

Music—Southern airs and “Dixie,” by Swain’s band.
Address of welcome, Hon. Frank E. Bryant.
“My Old Kentucky Home” and “The Mocking Bird,” by Swain’s band.
Introduction of the speaker by the chairman, Mrs. Alexander B. White.
Address by Col. Robert E. Lee, Jr., of Virginia.
“The Girl I Left Behind Me,” Swain’s band.
“America,” by the audience, led by Swain’s band.

The veterans, Daughters of the Confederacy, directors and officers of the fair association, visitors of prominence and members of the committee for the reunion will then be served luncheon by the Daughters of the Confederacy, under the direction of Mrs. G. Travis Moore.

Many of the leading matrons and young ladies of the county identified with the Daughters of the Confederacy are connected with the committees, which have been working for some time to make this the most successful reunion of this nature ever held.

I am seeking any kind of info on Henry Fiser/Fizer, born 1776 in Surry County, NC. He later moved to Robertson County, TN and married Annie Hays. Around 1832, Henry Fiser's family along with Samuel Hays moved to Henry County, TN. In the 1850 federal census,Henry was living with with wife Ann and a son Archibald in District 12 Henry County. Henry Fiser was also in the 1850 agricultural census of Henry County. Among Henry's neighbors were Robert Newton, James B. Love and John Todd. I have never found any record of Henry Fiser's death, nor any kind of estate or will or deed record. Henry's widow Annie Hays Fiser was buried across the county line at Powell Cemetery in Weakley County. Any info on Henry Fiser will be appreciated!

FLORA TUCKER OF TN

Looking for any information on Flora Tucker of TN. Do not know a lot about her. Her brother was my great grandfather. Robert B. had a brother named Clarence as well. Family lore says that something bad happened to the children's father at the end of the Civil War. Their mother was an Indian woman (said to be full blooded Cherokee) I was told that her name was Elizabeth Smith. Things were hard for her with 3 children and no husband so she allowed the 2 boys to be adopted out to two separate families. Robert was adopted by Willis & Effie C. Sled Oliver. Clarence was adopted by a Murphy family. Flora remained with her mother. My great grandfather, Robert did not hear from his family again apparently. After 30 years, he was reunited with his mother and sister. I have copies of the letters he wrote to other family members regarding this event. If I remember correctly, they may have been written to Eugene Hawes or someone in that family. Robert B. Oliver was born 10 Sep 1891 in Nashville, TN. He married Shellie L. Wimberly. Robert eventually moved to Hillsborough Co., FL where he died in 1966. Would love to talk to anyone regarding this family who has knowledge of them. I remember my grandmother wtiting to Aunt Flora when I was coming up. If anyone can help me, please email me directly at cherrino75@yahoo.com.
New Website: Cemeteries of Henry County Tennessee

Just wanted to announce that months of preparation have finally culminated in the creation of a new website, titled simply "Cemeteries of Henry County Tennessee." The project is always ongoing and is, of course, in its infancy. Please excuse any rough edges on the website.

Our goal is to photograph Henry county's cemeteries, stone by stone, and make them available to the genealogic community and the world via the internet. We have only begun and so far have only a handful of cemeteries to offer, but we are adding cemeteries at a rate of about two to three per week.

My wife and I live in Nashville and we can't go on our photographic expeditions every weekend, so updates may become sporadic. Please come by the website and then let us know what you think here on the Henry board.

http://henrycem.curtisbjackson.com

PS... we do have the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery available in its entirety!
