My mother-in-law was a McFarland. I have traced them back a good ways, and recall one of her ancestor uncles moved to Paris, Henry County, TN (where I was born) from Lebanon TN. That McFarland was a doctor, had children and died in the area as I recall.

The McFarlan boys came here- the first one because he got in trouble in the old country and his father sent him here. When they did not hear from him for a long while, father sent a second son to find him. Shortly after they connected, war broke out with England. Being the good Scots they were they took up arms against the English. Following the war they came to the Nashboro settlement (later named Nashville after my 5th great uncle) You will have to look at each of the McFarland, however John M. Farland went west, and I believe there wa another that likely is your connections as well. The McFarlands here were doctors- 4 generations back with Dr. Sam B McFarland the last (d1995). They stayed in and around Lebanon, Wilson County TN. A branch went to Texas, seems like by way of Mississippi. Anyway, I hope this is of value to some or all of you. One f the great uncles took time to write the family history, which included a reference to sharing an ancestor great grandfather (directly related via an aunt cousin) to Rob Roy McGregor, of great fame in Scotland and about whom a movie was made with Liam Neeson as Rob Roy.
