I'm very interested in finding where after 1830 in Henderson Co. a Joseph Jackson family has went. They are right beside Thomas Hart and Samuel Brown. Nancy Jackson is the daughter of THomas Hart and sister to Samuel Brown's wife as well as sister to Heth Hart. Hoping to find this family after 1830, difficult I know with a name like Jackson!
I am looking for more information on this couple. I have some conflicting information. One person has documenation stating James father was James Barker from Guilford County, NC. While there is another documentation floating around stating his father is Kendrick Barker, but was mispelled in the census.

I have Some information about Eda's family but not a lot. Mainly her siblings. I do have her father listed as William W. Williamson, died in Saltillo, Hardin Co., TN and her mother as Nancy Bryant, died in Hardin Co., TN

Any other information would be helpful. Thank you.

About 1827, my gg-grandfather David NICHOL (often recorded with an 's' on his surname) married Martha MITCHELL, one of two daughters of William Pleasant MITCHELL and Rebecca COLEMAN. David was a farmer and master tanner living by the Big Sandy River in Carroll Co., just north of the Henderson Co. line; the MITCHELL family apparently lived in northern Henderson Co., around present-day Wildersville.

Thanks to a wonderful chronicle written in 1904 by Martha's nephew Lafayette W. MITCHELL, I know a lot more about her life and times than I do about David NICHOL. Does anyone out there have anything? All I have from Carroll Co. are some land records and an 1833 bill of sale in which David sold his tannery business to Daniel COLEMAN before departing for Kentucky.

To those researchers of James Harvey Barker born 1840. I have seen information in a court document that Kenderick Barker was his father and Mary A. was their mother. Kenderick died 1845 according to the Barker family bible. I found the other information in a microfilm of court documents and bible documents of Henderson County. He was listed as Kendrake in the 1840 census. I had seen info prior that his family came from Guilford County NC. Robert was some how related.

I am trying to find information on a gr, gr, gr uncle. His name was John Calvin "Calvin" Williamson. He was born around 1872 probably in Hardin Co., TN. But they also lived around McNairy, Gibson, Chester and Henderson Counties. His parents were George W. and Talisa Elizabeth (Hopper) Williamson. I cannot find him on any census. The only record I have of him is a listing on his father's Civil War Pension Applicatn. He is listed on there with his siblings. I have been told by several family members that he went into the mountains one day and was never heard from again. If anyone has any information about him, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks
Looking for Tom Shackelford born 1874 in Henderson?

I am looking for my grandfather's burial place. His name was Tom Shackelford, born in Tennessee around 1874-75, possibly Henderson Co. He married Beulah Rowland, my grandmother, as his second or possibly third wife, and they moved to Mississippi about 1923. Tom later left his wife and children and went back to Tennessee, we think, have no record of where he went, but probably Henderson Co.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. My mother is his last living child that we know of, was put into a Mississippi orphanage in 1928-30, so have had some difficulties tracing her family. Thanks for any help!

Chris

John Middleton of Maury County Tn, And his son Alfred Henderson County

John was my 6th great grandfather

I have seen many websites and had many emails from people saying John Middleton Maury County Tn, Was the son of Richard IV Middleton. Babados line of Middletons

But how could this be? DAR Records state that Richard IV Middleton did have a son named John, but he died in Chesterfield Dist. SC 1800.

John Middleton of Maury county Tn, was in Greensville County Sc, in 1800.and in Maury County by 1820.

There is a book by Marise Parrish Lightfoot called Let the Drums Roll: Veterans and Patriots of the Revolutionary War who Settled in Maury County, Tennessee. In her book she writes.

John Middleton, Senior, b. between 1750 & 1760, Ireland and migrated to South Carolina before the
Revolutionary War. He received payment for militia duty in South Carolina during the years 1779 and

1782. He executed his will on April 17, 1831, and died between that date and June 23, 1831, when the will

was probated in Maury County, Tennessee. In his will he named his wife, Rebecca and two sons, Alfred and Drury.

Also I have found more false information. There is a old family story about John being in Lee's legion in the Revolutionary War.

I went to DAR with this and found out this not to be true, There was a John Middleton in lee's but he died way before our John Middleton did in Sc.

Johns son Alfred Middleton moved to Henderson county Tn,
and lived in Ebenezer.

The name Ebenezer was given this community by Col. Alfred Middleton. He was very religious and it is believed he took this name from the Bible.

Alfred Middleton, the first settler, came in l833. He settled here because deer were exceedingly abundant. The first house in this community was built in 1833.

It stands, slightly remodeled, a short distance from its original sight of erection and is occupied by Mr. M. L. Volner.

Soon after he settled Col. Middleton gave four acres of land on which to build a church. This church burned in 1886. In the same year the present one was erected. It is not known who the first pastor was. The present pastor is Rev. J. C. Bishop.

So who was John Middleton 1760- 1831 Maury County Tn,
If you have any new Information to share please Email me at

willun98@yahoo.com

Erik Middleton

I am looking for information on the family of Abraham and Catherine Green who appear on the 1850 census in Henderson Co., TN. Abraham is listed as born in NC abt. 1807; his wife Catherine is listed as born in TN abt. 1822 (I don't know if this is accurate as first child in household is only 11 years younger!).
Children listed are:
Lydia b. abt. 1833 TN
Elizabeth b. abt. 1835 TN
Greenbury b. abt. 1837 TN
Susan b. abt. 1840 TN
Joseph b. abt. 1843 TN
Mary b. abt. 1844 TN
?Comdes (not sure about this name) b. abt.1847 (female)
twins Sarah and Nancy b. 1850 TN

I have been unsuccessful in trying to locate this family in any other census. I am trying to find out if the Mary Green in this family is the same person as my Mary P. Green b. 1844 who married L. Samuel Stout in Lafayette Co., MS in 1859 and later married John Ashley Austin in 1866 in Madison Co., TN.

I am also trying to place an Arahn (Aaron?) T. Green, b. abt. 1855 in TN, who is listed in the 1870 census for McNairy Co., TN in the household of John and Mary (Green) Austin.

Any information on this family would be appreciated.

I am doing some research on my husband's family. I have hit a wall concerning his GGF, J. T. Bailey, b. 1876 d. 1945. All my father-in-law remembers is that J.T. Bailey m. Rosa B. and had children, Isaac Luther (I.L.) b. Feb 10, 1900, Esther, and others (names unknown). My father-in-law also remembers that J.T. was a blacksmith in Trimble or Parsons in Lake County. I am guessing this job might be in the mid 1900's. Is there any info or help you can provide us?

Thanks,
Sandra Bailey

Can anyone tell me for sure if Allen T. Hart, born about 1816 in Brown Co. OH. and Matilda Hart Austin (wife of Jeremiah Austin) are brother and sister and are both the children to Thomas Hart. We have Census that show Thomas Hart was in Brown Co., Ohio in 1817 and in Henderson Co., TN. by 1827. Allen T. is listed but Matilda is not. Several un-named daughters are listed along with their birth year and two are the right age to be Matilda, who was my great-great grandmother. If anyone has information on this connection, plese email me. Thanks.

I have been researching Mark Murphy married to Elizabeth in Decatur and Perry Co. TN. Do you think Daniel and Mark could be brothers? Mark was in the 1870 Decatur Co. TN census with a Kisiah, but I don't think she is Martha Kissah Tye married to Daniel Murphy as I originally thought. There is too much of an age difference. I have gone in on your site.I would very much like to correspond with you on this family. Thank you, Kim Sharp
Fate of Joshua Preslar, Jr from Anson County, NC?

Does anyone know what happened to the Joshua Preslar, Jr. (born about 1810, son of Joshua Preslar & Susannah Parker) who moved his family from Anson County, North Carolina to Henderson County, Tennessee between 1851-1853? He married Margaret [-?-] about 1839 and had at least nine children:

Thomas P. Preslar was born 1840 NC
Sarah E. Preslar was born abt 1842 NC
James H. Preslar was born abt 1844 NC
Hugh Daniel Preslar was born abt 1846 NC
Nancy A. Preslar was born abt 1849 NC
S.E. Preslar was born abt 1851 NC
W.M. Preslar was born abt 1853 TN
Joshua Preslar was born abt 1857 TN
F.C. Preslar was born abt 1859 TN

Joshua & family show up in the 1850 Anson County census. By the 1860 census, they show up in Henderson County, but oldest son, Thomas, is no longer with the family. By the 1870 Henderson County census, Joshua is no longer listed and Thomas is listed with his wife and 3 children.

There wasn't a will as far as I could find in the Henderson County records, Joshua isn't listed in any of the cemeteries in the county and neither can I find any deed activity involving him.

I believe my 3rd great grandfather, Thomas Parker Presley, is that oldest son, but have been unable to locate any documentation that specifically establishes that, merely the 1870 census with Thomas living in Henderson with an age that matches. Thomas and family ended up settling in Dyer County. Participation in the Presley-Pressley DNA Surname Project has revealed 25/25 marker matches with several known descendants of the Johannes Valentin Pressler descendants who settled in Anson County (as well as a 36/37 and 34/37 marker match).
