Archibald H. WADDLE found in 1850 Haywood Co. census; 1840 or '46 Harmony Church records. Does anyone have info on his parents or siblings? Possibly he was son of John S. WADDLE, found in Maury Co. census 1820.

Searching for James E Millard married Edna Herring c1824. He came from Sullivan County Tennessee to Haywood County about 1825 and farmed near Brownsville until about 1844.
Their daughter, Elizabeth (Betty), Millard was born there about 1825-1826. She married Henry Taylor c1843 probably in or near Haywood County. Their daughter Frances E Taylor was born there c1844. Both the Taylors and Millards moved to Yell County, Ark about 1845. Was any of the Herring family in Haywood County? Are there any land or other records that show the Millards or Taylors in your county? Thank you.

I am trying to find other Williams in Haywood Co, particularly if they came from Pitt Co, old Dobbs Co, Jones Co, Lenoir Co, etc. in e. NC, to m. TN in the early 1800's and then on to w. TN.

Just now working on our Harris side of family. GGfather is named David Crockett Harris, born 1842; his father is David Harris, born 1805 and his father is Sidon John Harris, born 1780 ? in NC. David Harris' brother John was supposedly killed at the Alamo with his cousin, Davy Crockett. Found this in Ancestry Family Tree, entry 130475. It lists all the children of Sidon John Harris, including the Sidon H. Harris, b. 1820 in Overton County, TN who married Amanda Atkinson. Our David Crocket Harris also had a brother named Sidon, who lived in the Haywood County, TN area. If you have made any headway on Sidon John Harris, we would really appreciate your info. We did run up on a Family Tree, entry 15010 that printed out the Texas Sidon H. Harris' family. Looks like we are related. Any more info would really help.
Thanks,
I found a Daniel MADING who lived in Nashville in 1834 and was moving to Brownsville, per his pension record for fighting the Indians. Unfortunately it doesn't say much more than where he lived, that he was wounded and had a family.

I'm hoping he might be my Daniel's son. Is anyone familar with this family?

As noted on the Haywood Co. "City" page: Eurekaton TN in Haywood County, was settled in the 1830's and 40's by families from Virginia: Howse, Jeter, Jones, Mason, Miller, Newsum, Short, Stoots, Stuart, and Wilkes.

The Masons, Newsoms and Stuarts listed above were originally from Sussex County VA. I am hoping someone might have further information regarding these families. Thomas and Eliza Newsom Mason were my ggrandparents. They moved to Haywood County in 1841. Will be glad to share information.

Kindest Regards,
Carolyn Mason Anderson

JOHN MYLES WRIGHT, Haywood Co., TN

My earliest Wright was John Myles Wright, found in Haywood County, TN, in 1850. By 1860, he had moved to Searcy, White County, AR; by 1870, he was in Pulaski County, AR, which later became Faulkner County. His eldest daughter, Virginia "Mitt" Wright, was the mother of my grandfather, Asa Potter Bryant. The Bryants had come from Virginia to TN in the 1840s...Fayette County, just below Haywood County.

A "cousin" in Faulkner County shared some of her photographs with me via email, and one of them was of a Cadet Benjamin Wright of the United States Naval Academy. Through the help of several retired naval officers, I have determined that his father was a confederate general, Marcus Joseph Wright, who later went to Washington and worked for the federal government in documenting some aspect of the civil war. He is the only confederate officer buried in Arlington National Cemetery. This family was in Memphis at one time, but in Haywood County before the war...I have just been unable to make a connection with our John Myles Wright; I feel there is one because of the photograph being in with Bryant photographs. Another Bryant daughter from the Fayette County Bryants married a WRIGHT man.

Oral history had always been that our Wrights came from Middle Tennessee...and that John's wife's name was Rebecca Baker. She was dead by the time he moved to Arkansas. Other Tennessee names associated with these Wrights are KIRKMAN, BAKER.

I wish I could find the parents of my John Myles Wright. If naming patterns are any clue, he named his eldest son JOHN T. WRIGHT, which would have been for his father, if he followed the pattern. His second son was John M. Wright, Jr.

Mildred Brady Venitucci

Looking for information on A. William Brooks Sr's prior lineage. He was my GGGgrandfather and married to "Jane E" (maybe Emison, Emerson). They had three children. They're all showing on the Haywood County census of 1870.

His parents were Louisiana HUDDLESTON (from VA.) and William Winston Brooks. I'm having a hard time finding further details on Wm. Winston Brooks background. Any additional info is apprecited. Thanks in advance.
Gooch Family Reunion August 3,4,5 2008 in Atlanta Georgia.

The descendants of Samuel T Gooch and Frances Graham will be holding a Reunion in August 2008. I am researching family history on the Gooch family and Graham Family. Frances was the daughter of Harriet Brooks and Duncan Graham, resided in Lauderdale County. Samuel Gooch was my great-great grandfather. Samuel was born 1855 in Granville North Carolina. He and Frances had 9 children, most of the descendants settled in Haywood and Lauderdale county. Missing a great deal of info for the family tree. Samuel and Frances children were Samuel Gooch Jr, Ada Vaughn, William H. Gooch, Lula Reed, Daisy Watkins(my great Grand mother), Eugene Gooch, James Gooch, Mary Roberts, and Frank Gooch. Please send any info to Deeright1@aol.com. (While growing up in Haywood County, I was so unaware of all the great relatives that surrounded me!)

Looking for any info Alexander Brown, Born in Augusta Virginia in 1811. He Died in 1901 in Haywood County. His wife, Lettie was also from Virginia, appears to have shown up in Haywood County around the time of 1865 when slaves were being freed. I am unable to obtain info on Lettie's Maiden name. Alexander and Lettie had 7 children. Richard Brown was my great grandfather, also settled in Haywood county. Looking for any info on his siblings, Adeline, Edna, William, Josephine,Francis and Elizabeth(Liza) Brown. Richard married Mosella Joplin, the daughter of Aaron Joplin(born 1846) and Nancy Jane Edwards. Aaron's mother was Sophia Oldham married Edmond Rouser from Lauderdale County. Some of my research indicate that Aaron was connected to Thomas Joplin of the Joplin Plantation/Farm in Hennings TN mentioned in the book and movie "ROOTS" by Alex Haley. All info is welcomed, Past and present! Also Gathering info for the Brown family reunion, scheduled for 2008 in Haywood County.

Hi, everyone!

My name is Vincent Davis and I am doing some research of my mother's paternal side of my family tree, which consists of the Camel and Sutton families of Brownsville, Tennessee.

To show my lineage:

I am the firstborn son of Carole (Camel) Dorsey; the grandson of Ben and Sweetie (Bracey) Camel; and the great-grandson of Ernest and Beatrice (Sutton) Camel.

I know that my grandfather and his family were from Brownsville, Tennessee, but I didn't know his parents or know anything of them at all. I would love to find out who was in my family beyond my great-grandparents.

If anyone could help and possibly answer some questions for me it will be greatly appreciated!

I look forward to the correspondence and possibly learning about distant family members.

You can also contact me at vincentdavis72@comcast.net.

Much love & God bless you all!!

Vincent Davis

Robert S Wilkins b. 1796 in N C married Elizabeth Kinney around 1828.(Likely in Haywood Co.) They lived in Haywood County, TN on the 1830 census. Their first 4 children were born there: Fredonia Wilkins b. 1829, Calvin, b. abt 1831, William Alexander Wilkins b. 1833 and Elizabeth P Wilkins b. 1835. By 1840 this family has moved to MS, but Calvin is missing. What happened to Calvin? The only other "Wilkins" in Haywood Co, TN on 1830 census was a Nathaniel Wilkins. Might be related. ??

I am looking for any family of Andrew J. Wise and Nancy Stricklind or Hamilton Sanders and Docia Stricklind. Andrew and Nancy married in Haywood County around 1874. Andrew and Nancy had two known daughters, Sarah and Dove. Hamilton and Docia's children are John R., James, Levi C., Elijah B. and Sallie B. They lived in Madison County around the 1880 Census. Family lore has it Nancy Strickind and Hamilton Sanders died some time before or around 1900. Most of both families then moved to Greene County, Arkansas around 1900 and I am Andrew's ggranddaughter. We would like to know more of their life in Tennessee. One question in particular is, Who was Andrew's parents? Another is, Do we still have part of our family around Haywood or Madison Counties? If you know anything about our family please let us know.

William Wallace b. 1838? Residence Haywood County

According to my great granddaddy's (Richard Hullett Wallace) death certificate, his father was William WALLACE born in Tenn. His son Willie Frank Wallace wrote in his masonic bible that William Wallace was 66 years, 5 months, and 18 days old at his death, which we assumed that his birth was approx. 1838. Richard's death cert. indicated that his mother was Martha HUBBERD born in Tenn.

I have found an 1880 Haywood census that I believe is the correct family. William is 42 and his son Richard is 2 at this time and by 1900 Haywood census, Richard is married and is 23. There is not a wife listed for William on the 1880 census. Siblings listed on the 1880 census are Sara, Robert, Jessee (or Isaac), and Belle.

I am looking for an 1870 census for William and Martha but can't seem to locate them in Haywood and honestly don't know which way to go.

Thanks a million, Renee

I am looking for info on the John Vaden with wife Safronia in the 1860 Franklin Co. census.

Any one know this family, have any info on them?

In 1870 they were in Colbert Co. census. I have an idea they didn't move, it was cause Colbert Co. was created between the 1860 & 1870 census. Then where they lived in Franklin Co., became Colbert Co.

By 1880 Mary (Safronia or Safrona) was in Lauderdale Co., Tennessee with the children, but John is no longer in the household. 1900 Safrona is living in Haywood Co., Tennessee with Thomas J. Vaden and family. Census say Safrona is a cousin to Thomas. She is a widow, married 12 years.

I am not sure if I have found Thomas in past census. Says he was born in Alabama. Can't find a Vaden Family in Alabama that works out to be Thomas' family. If he was a cousin to Safronia, would have had to been a cousin by marriage, I would thing, maybe? So Thomas would be a son of a brother to John's dad.

Would appreciate any info on this family.

Thank you, Cathy
