I’m seeking info on 2 Kirk brothers who married 2 McDonald sisters. James Guy Kirk (1898-1966) married Willie B. McDonald (1898-1973) on Apr 7, 1918 in Hamblen County. John Calvin Kirk (1900-1986) married Ella Kate McDonald (1900-1946) on Sep 30, 1920 in Hamblen County. John and James’ parents were James Robert Kirk (1871-1946) and Mollie Lou Long (1876-1942). Sometime in the 1920s or 30s the 2 Kirk families moved to the Rock Port, Missouri area. I’d like to find someone who could provide dates of birth and death for their many kids and could possibly identify some old photos I have of them.

Burgess died around 1915 and was buried in South Carolina, but his wife continued living there until she died around 1955. I don’t know what her first name is, but I believe her middle name is Alpha.

My great-grandmother was a servant girl at "The Three Springs Spa" in the Hartsman district, Hamblen Co. A Francis P. Bishop family owned and operated the Spa. My g-gm was there from ~1877-1888. Her name was Nancy Caroline Harrell Mason, b. 1860. We have a letter my g-gfather, Daniel H. Mason wrote to her on Spa letterhead.

Because Nancy was orphaned as a teenager, the Bishops essentially raised her. Is anyone connected to this Bishop Family, or better yet, to the Calvin Harrell family of Russellville, TN. Also, if anyone knows the history of the Spa, I'd love to hear it!

Searching information on a Mamie Williams of Hamblen County Tennessee. Born cir 1895 or 97. Married a Charley Baily Frazier. I understand she was institutionalized around 1925-1929. I believe she gave birth to a baby girl in 1928 right after she was admitted. She could be my grandmother and the baby girl was my mother, which the Frazier grandparents raised. Charley divorced her after she was released and remarried a Kate Tipton. Any info would greatly be appreciated. April

Sarah Marshall (b. ca 1848 d after 1920) , widow of James Marshall (b. ca 1837-d bet 1900-1910), was living in Hamblen Co. in 1910 with her niece Sudie/Susan Snyder Eidson living with her. In 1920 Sudie and her husband Andy and their children were still living with Sarah in District 3 of Hamblen Co. I am trying to find out several things and any help would be appreciated:
1--If Sudie was their niece, what was the relationship, was it to James Marshall or Sarah___Marshall, and how?
2. What was Sarah Marshall's maiden name?
3. Where are Sarah and James Marshall buried? Sudie and her husband and some of her children are buried at Bethesda Cem., but Sarah and James are not.
4. Who were the parens of Sudie and her sister Vina that were probably dead by 1900 because both Sudie and Vina Snyder/Snider were living with their aunt and uncle in 1900 in Hawkins Co. Sudie and Vina both married in Hawkins Co. Since Sudie died in 1963 I cannot have access to her death certificate.
Any help on any part of this would be appreciated. Perhaps a living genealogist in the Marshall or Eidson family might know the answers.

John Avery MCRAE

I am trying to find anything on my G-Grandfather John Avery MCRAE. His name is listed on my grandmother's delayed birth certificate as being born in Hawkins County, TN. However, my G-Grandmother is Cora Belle THORNHILL-CLINE from Hamblen county and I was told the only time she left Hamblen was to move to Loudon. So I feel they met and married in Hamblen County. Here is all I have on John:

John Avery MCRAE b. 31 Jan 1880 (unconfirmed)
m. bef. 1899: Cora Belle THORNHILL-CLINE b. 14 Aug 1880; Hamblen Co.

Daughter NELLE CLODINE MCRAE b. 20 Dec 1899; Hamblen Co.
(only known child of record before divorce)

military: Draft Registration WWI - shows him in Knoxville
working for Southern Railroad in 1918; Age: 38
Nearest relative listed: Mrs. Georgia Sartin (sister)

This has eluded me since the early 1990's when my Aunt told me that after Cora divorced John he moved to Knoxville and worked for the railroad which leads me to believe that the above draft registration is the correct John MCRAE. My Aunt also thought she remembered that he had a son named John Avery MCRAE, Jr. and that John, Sr. died around 1930-1931.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Linda W.
Whitesattic@gmail.com
Lenoir City, Loudon Co., TN

Hascal’s father was William Charles Martin Fox and he grew up in Cocke Co. But I believe some moved to Jefferson Co. because a few are buried in Hillcrest Cemetery. I would appreciate any dates of birth, marriage, death and place of burial.

I haven’t been able to go past Jackson and Sarah so I wish I could get info on their families. The family lived in Hamblen County but I’m not sure where exactly.
In the 1880 Census William C. "Casper" Oaks and Rebecca "Dunn" Oaks are living in this county with their children. I have been trying to figure out who William's parents are and I have narrowed it down to Rice T. "Thomas" and Susan Bear. Both Rice and Susan are burried in the Russellville Community Cemetary in Hamblen County. In the 1860 census there is a William J. living with Rice (the age is about right to be my William), in the 1870 and 1880 Census William has lived near Rice. I am having a hard time trying to tie my William with the William living with Rice in 1860. If anyone has any information they would like to share on this family I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Debbie

Does anyone know anything about the old Russellville Community Cemetery (off of 11-E, just N of town)? There are Civil War soldiers buried their. I live in FL, but just visited last week and was dismayed to see it overgrown and inaccessible. My gggrandmother, Lutheney HARRELL (1822-1877), is there, so I'd like to see it improved. I'd like to find out if there are plans afoot for reclaimation, and if there is I'd like to help. Does anyone know who owns the property it sits on?

She had run away with a man down there and he died. Im trying in vain to find ANY information on what happened to her after he died. I just dont know where to turn and what information I can find. I do have a old newspaper article from Morristown TN stating the story of how this man died and she is mentioned in the newspaper using an alias. Can someone out there please help? Im in New Jersey. I would GREATLY appreciate anyone who has some time. What kind of records im looking for? Im not quite sure - Old court records? Anything or guidance as to what to look for that can give me clues to where she is.

Mary
searchthestars@aol.com

This road afterward formed the line between the counties of Jefferson and Grainger, and became a section of the great stage route from Knoxville to Abingdon, VA. It was along this road that most of the early settlers located. Beginning at Morristown and going eastward was William Chaney, who lived on the lot now occupied by Joseph Brown's residence; Thomas Daggett, a little less than a mile beyond, and Phelps Read, about two miles east Morristown. In the neighborhood of Read were John Crockett, Richard Thompson and Isaac Martin.

Greenville, TN. John Crockett, who in 1792, lived two miles East of where Morristown, Tennessee, is now located, near Phelps Smith, Richard Thompson and Isaac Martin. John Crockett did not tarry long at the mouth of the Limestone River, after David was born. In fact, David Crockett in 1792, when his father lived two miles out on the Abington road East of Morristown, was a barefooted six year old boy running around the house, probably one of the regular Log cabin type of that day and time. The next move was to Cove Creek, where John and Mr. Thomas Galbraith built a mill in partnership.
-----

Reseaching my paternal ggg James Napoleon MYERS,wrote his name as N.J.MYERS; seen as MYRES in Sevier CO., TN Census along with his reported cousins the MOYERS whom also was seen as MYRES. Born in 1839, reportedly - no proof on this, it is rumored he was born in Morristown, Hamblin TN.

He and a sister and brother were supposedly orphaned - 1839 was when Trail of Tears began so I wonder if that's where my Indian Heritage comes from - familylore.

He m. Margaret Caroline LINDSEY of the EMERT ROBERTS LINDSEYS of Sevier, TN. He was baptist minister and curcuit preacher rider from Jefferson, Blount, Sumner and Sevier, TN and back. Died on this son Andrew Jackson MYERS farm near Pigeon Forge.

All records burned and lost. If anyone recognized this story please email me. People believe he and his sisters were adopted in Dandridge, White pine area of Jefferson Co, TN by the MOYERS, Susannah dau of James David MOYERS and Mary Polly BLACKBURN.

I am seeking information about Robert McFarland IV (1832-1884) who was elected as Major the 31st infantry CSA, later reorganized as the 39th Infantry. I am specifically hoping that someone will have personal information regarding his Civil War experiences especially the battle of Morristown. I am also extremely eager to discover what companies of the 39th went with him to be the Valley Campaign of 1864 in Virginia. Reports indicate that half of the regiment stayed in the Bristol vicinity with their commander William Bradford and the other half went into Virginia with McFarland.
Did he leave any records such as a diary, letters, etc.? Any help is greatly appreciated.
My gggrandfather was John Renfro who served in "F" company in the 39th.
Thanks.
Ray Adams

The genealogy info in the library and some of the county records that were kept in the courthouse have been
put in an area of the courthouse that the Historical Society has taken over in the basement of the old couthouse.
If the volunteer feels like going home - then it is closed
and NO ONE has access to them. This means that the
public records are NOT available. A friend was up there
2 weeks ago a 11 am on a Friday morning and despite
the posted hours, it was closed. A note on the door
said it was because there was 'no business'.
Anyone that finds this unacceptable might write a
letter to the county clerk with a copy to the historical
society and the library about the limited access to public
records. If they have posted hours, then someone
should be present during those posted hours, even if
there is 'no business'.
The Historical Society charges one dollar for
each photocopy.
Hello all,

I am looking for info on a Melinda/Malinda/Milinda S. LAWSON, b abt 1818 in TN, probably vicinity of McMinn County, TN. The S. may stand for SHELTON since her marriage license states Melinda/Malinda SHELTON - have seen the spelling both ways on the McMinn Marriages List. Melinda/Malinda SHELTON married Charles D. MARTIN on July 18, 1839 in McMinn County, TN.

Melinda/Malinda's parents are said to have been James and Elizabeth LAWSON -- James may have been a middle name and Elizabeth could have been called Nancy. Both parents allegedly born in TN or that part of North Carolina that became Tennessee.

William "Buck" LAWSON said to have been b . 1790-1796 is said to have been Melinda/Malinda's uncle -- and could possibly be her father. Have an undocumented record showing William "Buck" LAWSON married Elizabeth SHELTON 1814 in Bucombe/Madison County, NC. It is possible that William "Buck" Lawson was married more than once and may have had more than one relationship. Any info on this greatly appreciated. Thank you - Mim

Frank was about 50 years old and Carrie was only about 16 years of age. Some of Franks children were grown adults and they opposed the second marriage of there father. One rainy day while Frank was at work some of Franks sons put Carrie on a bus headed out of town. Story says she was already pregnant with Franks baby. Can anyone tell more about Carrie. Did she get married again? Names of any children. Are any children still alive?
Marriage between Frank Cook and Carrie Owens.

My Great Grandfather was Frank Cook. Frank got remarried shortly after his wife, Tennessee Lovin, died November 08, 1923.He married Carrie Owens in Greene County on July 05, 1924. If you can help in any way please feel free to e-mail me at Hobster@lca.net.

Isaac and James MARTIN, NC>Hamblen TN abt 1820

Looking for info on Isaac MARTIN and son James MARTIN. Isaac may have been in Hamblen, TN in 1800, he is not shown in the 1800 Burke, NC Census. His son James is shown in the 1800 Burke, NC and 1810 Burke, NC Census. Then both Isaac and James went to Tennessee, probably Hamblen County.

Also looking for William LAWSON and son William LAWSON, who are shown in the 1810 Burke, NC Census living near Isaac and James MARTIN. It is believed that these LAWSONS also went to Tennessee with the MARTINS.

There was a brief mention of an Isaac MARTIN in Goodspeed's History of TN as living near the town of Read in what was then Hamblen County, TN. Hamblen was divided up and parts went to Jefferson, Grainger and Hawkins Counties, TN.

I think these are the most likely place to look for Isaac and James MARTIN and William LAWSON and son William LAWSON, because I think they all went to Tennessee with some of the SHELTONS, not to mention Benjamin HAWKINS and Washington DODSON who also were names in Hawkins, TN and surrounds.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you - Mim
Looking for information on James Tyler and his wife Eula Hensley, who lived in Morristown in the 1920s. Tyler may have been a native of Lee County, VA. Hensley's origin is uncertain. Their sole child, James Patton Tyler, was born in Morristown in 1916 circa. Eula died at age 36, following the worldwide flu epidemic. Tyler remarried and may have run an automotive dealership in Morristown for several years, but he also died just a few years later. Many thanks for any help.
