Re: JACOB MADDOX in GRAINGER COUNTY Help Please

I am looking for the parents and siblings, actually any relatives, of Elizabeth A. Madox who was born 12 Oct 1797 in VA. She married (I have no date or place. The marriage is recorded in her bible.) Aaron Hawkins in 1814. They were in Anderson Co TN at the time. In Anderson Co TN are Jacob, Nathan, John, Samuel and Daniel Maddox in the 18-teens.

Aaron's 1st cousin, Edward Hawkins, assigned the land that Daniel was living on at the time of the assignment, to Daniel. This was in 1811. I think there would have to have been a close relationship for the one man to have given land to the other through an assignment.

I have not found any relationship among the aforementioned men except that the court ordered payment of money to Jacob and John after the death of Nathan - 10 July
1815-1818.

In 1808 the court ordered that Jacob Maddox be allotted same formerly for keeping John Mattox until the next court and that Jacob Peak furnish him to that amount.

The Samuel Maddox may have belonged to Valentine who was there earlier.

I have not found any reference that Daniel Maddox is related to Nathan or John or Jacob.

Can you tell me what the lawsuit was about in Hawkins County?

I know this is really sketchy, but this is all I have found. I have a mountain of Maddox's that don't seem to connect to my Elizabeth, except very coincidentally.

There is a Mathew Maddox (not the one who married Eve Kountz/Counts), but the one who married Dicy Guinn in Cocke Co. They moved out to Fountain Co IN. Mathew died there in 1834. In his estate settlement there is mention of a loan of $50.00 to the brother of Elizabeth A. Madox's husband, Morgan Hawkins. There were no other loans or gifts to anyone else in the settlement.

Thanks for any information you may send, Jeanne

George Blair, born 9 Nov 1905, was the son of John and Maude (Lee) Blair who married 3 Dec 1900. His twin, Samuel Blair, went to OH, but George went to Knoxville, after being raised by Sam and Gertie Hopson after his mother remarried. There were two George Blairs--one married Johnnie Massey in Knoxville and the other married Grace Sellers in Grainger Co. I believe that the Grainger Co. Twin George Blair married Grace Sellers, but I need confirmation of that, and would like to make contact with descendants and find out where he is buried. What happened to his father, did he die or leave the family
Sherman Spires (1864-1934, buried Grainger Co., TN) married 2nd Maude Lee in 1909 Grainger Co., TN. Accoridng to Maude's obituary (1883-1950), they had these children, although I could never find them all living with them in the census: Jessie Mae, Lemmie, Harley or Harlan, Martha, Mary and Birdie. These children were all alive when their mother died in 1950. I would like to be in contact with a member of this family who can help me piece the family together. For instance, her daughter was called Mary Coffey in the Maud's obituary, I believe that she married Avery Coffey, but I would like to be sure. Her obituary also says that her daughter Birdie married Walter Sinard. I cannot find a trace of Walter Sinard anywhere. Lemmie did not marry but I am not sure if the other son was Harley or Harland and I don't know anyting about Martha. Any help on any portion of this family would be so much appeciated...sometiems even the slightest hint helps!

Minutes for Dec. 1803 show that Gideon served on a jury there. Also, Gideon appears on a list dated 23 Sept. 1801 as part of a petition of citiizens from Knox and Grainger counties requesting that a new county be formed due to the distance from their homes to the co. seats."

I wrote the author of the email but got no reply. I would like to document these facts from some source, old probate records or any records on Gideon Harmon.

Also looking for any information on Lewis Harmon, and Stephen Harmon.
Thanks for the reply.
Lewis did not get married until he was 50 years old. He married a much younger Martha Brabston. They had three children, Amon (known as Bud), Batchea (known as Batch) and Susie. Martha and Susie died shortly after Susie was born. They are all buried in the Beckham family cemetery.
Lewis was a millwright and Martha's father was a "master smith". They probably worked together. I still have some of Lewis's tools. My first cousin has a copy of Lewis's diary that he kept after becoming a single father, but I have not seen it. My father spent a lot of time with Bud, his grandfather.
Are you sure about Elijah Junior & Senior? My information is that Elijah was the son of James. He and his wife, Jane, moved to Grainger county in the early 1820's. James and two of his brothers were in the Revolutionary war. They received land in Tennessee. I have a copy of James' pension application.
In the 1850 census there is a Preston Beckham. Circumstantial evidence suggests that he and his wife were freed by Elijah because of the names of their children. Elijah and Jane were still alive for the 1860 census.
Where did you get the information about Lewis being in Granger county in 1930? Is it on the Census form?

Our family state that Jeremiah married Susan King but on Find a Grave, Susan is listed as Asbury's wife and she is buried in Tempy Hutchison's cemetery along with him, his wife and a baby Webster. Family members say that Susan and Jeremiah were divorced but I haven't found any information about that as yet.
I have a Jeremiah Hutchison married 13 Mar 1837 Cape Girardeau Co., MO to Elizabeth Penrod. I also have a Jeremiah married to Mary Jane Williams 7 Nov 1867 Davies, Co., MO.
In 1840 Casey, KY census, Jeremiah is also listed.
1900 Jasper Township, Ozark Co., Mo Susan is listed with her son, Templeton as:
110/111 Hutchison, T.J. Head May 1830 70 yrs. marr. 35 yrs.
Elizabeth wife Oct 1832 68 yrs. marr. 35 yrs.
Mohn, Edward servant
Ledbetter, Matilda servant
Hutchison, Susan mother (can't read the month) 1780 120 yrs. (which there is no way as she died according to her headstone in 1899).

I think there was more than one Jeremiah in this family, has to be with the amount of Jeremiah's that are coming up.

Very confused now. On ancestry, someone has a family tree with Jerimiah Hutchinson but married to a Patsy Thacker.
Marriage is shown for 1810 in Pittsylvania Co. Va.

I know there is a 10 year difference, but what are the chances of two Jeremiah's getting married in the same area of Va?

What is confusing is that this Jeremiah is shown also being born in 1790 in Va.

I did find two census, 1810 and 1840 with a jeremiah Hutchinson. showing up in Loudon co va and Augusata co. va

I am currently adding the Moulder family into my database. My Great Grandmother was Cass Moulder and her father was Silas. Because I am using George Chester Moulder's 1933 hand written book some of the first names are left off. I would like to talk to anyone from this family.

Please email me rrhoads97401@yahoo.com

It might be of help to you to know that the name was changed from McDonald to McDaniel after the family moved to NC. The James McDaniel of Hancock TN was the youngest child of John and Margaret {Watkins} McDaniel. This is also my line and I will be happy to exchange.
