Elijah Goodnight, son of Henry was found in the 1840, 1850 and 1860 census records of Giles County. In 1860, he, along with daughter Samantha and son Frank, are in the household of Robert Saunders. Elijah was 52 years old in 1860 so I figured his son R. A. who served in the CSA from Giles County was the only soldier. However, Elijah apparently moved to Indiana where his daughter Samantha married Gideon Miller on 22 Oct 1865. They then moved to Greene Co. Iowa where Elijah died 22 Oct 1868. He is buried in the Kendrick Township Cemetery. His cemetery transcription has G.A.R on it which would indicate he was in the Grand Army of the Republic an organization of Union veterans. Does anyone have any record of Elijah's war service? I do not find anything in the usual indexes such as the Soldiers and Sailors database.
