Hello
I am a descendant via Issac Labon's daughter Malea. She was the child of Issac and his Chickasaw Indian wife.(named Chickasaw Woman). Malea married a Cooper and my gr gr father was Wilson Cooper. He was born in Bedford county, TN and died in Dyer county in the early 1900's.

I know only that Malea was born on a small barrier island off
the SC or Ga. coastline. She and her husband died in Settlement,Sweetgrass,Montana which was an Indian reservation in the end of the 1800's.
Isaac Was also in E TN in the late 1770's he was a signator on the "Men of Holston" petition in 1777(?).
Hope this helps.
My grandmother was Frances Eloise Wilkes, b. 28 July 1918 in Gibson County TN, and died 4 Feb 1992 in Lowndes County MS.

Her parents were John Martin Wilkes, b. 11 Nov 1884 in TN and died 16 Dec 1940. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer TN, along with his wife Anna Mae West, b. 14 Mar 1885 in TN, died 15 Feb 1968 in MS.
John Martin Wilkes supposedly committed suicide, but I don't know any other details. I have found census records and draft registery that keeps him in Gibson County TN throughout his life.

His parents were John M Wilks (note different spelling), b. 1860 and died 12 April 1920. He is buried in Rutherford Cemetery, Gibson County TN. He married Mozella "Duck" Potter (she was also called Ella) 2 May 1880 in Gibson County, TN. They also had a daughter Zula B Wilkes. Mozella married a man named Johnathan Fisher in 1897 in Gibson County. She was born in 1857 and died in 1942.

John M Wilks' POSSIBLE father was also named John M Wilkes (note spelling). He was born 1835 in Gibson County TN. He married Mary Thomas (b. 1840) 21 April 1858. They also had a daughter Elizabeth. I have no other information on their dates of death.

This John M Wilkes (b. 1835) was the son of John Wilkes (1792-1873) and Mary "Polly" Orrell Halliburton (1801-1852). There is a small private cemetery in the woods in Gibson County with the several family members buried there. Mozella Potter's brother is buried there, which leads me to believe I am on the right track at making the paternal connection. There are pictures of some of the stones on the Gibson County Historical society website but they are not dated, and the complete cemetery is not photographed. I would love to know the transcriptions of these stones and see current photos, but I digress.

I'm trying to verify that John M Wilks is the father of John Martin Wilkes. I have been unable to document that information. I would also like to know the circumstances of John Martin's suicide. My grandmother suffered from depression and anxiety and I am wondering if he did as well. I'd also like to know if the M stands for Martin or Marcus, as there are both names in the family.

Anyone that can offer any information or clues would be greatly appreciated!
Dear Tim, I don't know about the Madison County McCoy Cemetery. (I just found the Madison County History website, though and look forward to browsing there). I know that Miller and his girls lived near Cades, Gibson, TN which is just north of Milan. My husband, who is a McCoy descendent, remembers visiting one of Lockey's sisters (Pearl of Lily/Lillie), probably in mid to late 1930s in that community.
I don't like to write anything I don't know about precisely, but I think some of our McCoys came to Gibson county from McNairy County.(Straight up Highway 45, eh?) If you are interested in any of that story, let me know and I will tidy up my thoughts.

I was just told that the sisters to Lockie (McCoy) Cobb were not Lily and Pearl, but probably Hassie and Lily Pearl who married Varner/Vernon White in Gibson County, May 1918. Verner and Lily are listed in Gibson County, 1920 Census with a daughter, Katherine, age two months (this would mean born Nov 1919, as census was January 1920).
In 1930, they are living in Memphis, TN and in addition to Katherine, age 10, have a daughter whose name appears to be Wilbur, age 2.
I am sure they returned to Gibson County, and I search for any descendents of Katherine and her sister. I believe Katherine was in a Milan nursing home in late 2000s - maybe 2005/2006? Any leads will be appreciated.

Dear Gibson Researcher,
My husband descends from Lockie McCoy, m. Nathaniel Sylvester Cobb and lived in Walnut Grove community near Cades/Milan, Gibson, TN.
I think Lockie had two sisters; Pearl and Lily/Lillie? and they were the daughters of Abraham Miller McCoy. Lockie died in early 1900s. I have been searching for the descendents of sisters Pearl and Lily, but don't know who they married.
Your entry may be our Lily/Lillie. Thanks. S.C.
Dear McCoy Researcher, My husbands grandmother was Lockie McCoy, daughter of Abraham Miller McCoy of Gibson County. I think Lockie had one, maybe two sisters; no known males. They are near Cades/Milan ca 1900.

I am searching for descendents of the sisters. I think their names may have been Pearl and Lily. One married a White. If you have found any of them in your searches, could you share? I will do the same, although it appears you have done a thorough job.

Happy Hunting, S. C. I believe that this four month old daughter was Lilly Mays who married marvin ferdinand pounders. Their child, thurman pounders was my great grandfather. thanks

HI,
Sorry, at this time I have not come across those names in my search. Good luck in your research. I would recommend requesting files from the Tennessee State library.

Tim

I do know that my family lived in Gibson county for several years, but, am not aware of your descendants being connected to my family. I would not totally rule a connection out until more information is found. I would suggest checking with the Gibson county library genealogy section and trying to find probate records, like wills, land grants, etc. I do recall a Lillie McCoy being a member of the Holly Springs church, where one of my great uncle was a member. This church is no longer around, but, I believe the membership book is in the Dyer County library.
There is also a Dyer county genealogy site through rootsweb and a Madison county site as well.

Tim

Tim

I came across a McCoy cemetary, which I think is in Madison county. There is an E.M. McCoy born May 16, 1860 and died in April 7, 1885. There are a few other McCoys in this cemetary. Would this be your relation?

Tim

Johnson, Hannah, Adcock - House in Humboldt

Im trying to find out some details on the house at the corner of 19th and Osborne Street (210 North 19th). I know one of the previous owners (Hildred Eubanks Climer). I have done a search on the deeds to when the home was built. It would have been built between circa 1905 and 1907. The land and property was owned and sold by W.H. McKnight. The first owner was Mary Johnson from Carroll County. The next owner was a Mary Hannah, later deed mentioned her as Mary Hannah Adcock. Im trying to trace these familes, to no avail yet. Any pictures or information would be great. Thanks for your help.
