Saw your Gibson Co. message board post on the Gibson mailing list. I only recently discovered that my ggg grandmother Leafy/Liffy PEACOCK was an ELLIS. Her parents were Absalom ELLIS (1755 Halifax Co., NC - 1827 Wayne Co., NC) and Phereba Merritt (1763 Duplin Co., NC - 1833 Henry Co. TN).
Leafy married Wiley PEACOCK (1796 Wayne Co., NC - c.1845 Henry or Carroll Co., TN). Wiley, Leafy and family migrated from Wayne Co., NC to Henry Co., TN between 1832-1836. They are in 1840 Henry Co. Census. Leafy (as Lefa) is in the 1850 Carroll Co, census with her family, minus husband who must have died before then.
Leafy's widowed mother Phereba also moved to Henry Co., as did several of her siblings, including Theophilus ELLIS (b1796) and Theresa ELLIS CHARLES and her husband John Charles.
Do you see any connections with your Ellis family. I would love to see the Ellis family History that you mention to see if my ancestors might connect in some way.
