Hello Laura,
I can't pinpoint any connections for sure, but there are some indicators that it might be likely. Your John W. ELLIS and my Leafy ELLIS PEACOCK are about the same age and born in NC, and they came to TN about the same time. John W. and Miriam named one of their children Wiley, which could be coincidence (don't know how common the name was) or named after Leafy's husband Wiley PEACOCK.
Do you know from what county in NC your Ellis's travelled to TN? and to which co. Henry Co. and Carroll Co. are adjacent, and my Leafy and family had moved from Henry to Carroll Co. in 1850 census, after Wiley had died. Some of her kids were in Carroll Co. in the 1860 census. Do you have the exact census transcription for your Ellis family in the 1860 Carroll Co., including the district. Leafy and family were in the 10th dist. which is in NE Carroll Co.
My gg grandfather, Dr. Rufus Wiley PEACOCK, Leafy's oldest child, was married in Gibson Co. to Mary Jane WOODSON in 1852.
We may very well have a connection. - Ray
