Hi,
My name is Gerald Jones. I live in Ramsey, Illinois. I am doing research on the family of Benjamin Jones who settled in Fayette Co, Illinois in 1821.
In the 1812 tax list there is listed a Benjamin Jones in Franklin County, Tennessee. Does anyone have any information on a Benjamin Jones and family? By 1810 Benjamin should have had one son born in 1804. His name is Bowling Jones. Another son was born in 1811. Both sons were born in Tennessee.
Sometime before 1818 the Jones Family moved to Washington County, Illinois.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks
Gerald Jones in Illinois

I am hoping to create a proper memorial for Keith A. Walker, who died in Franklin, Tennessee, December 30, 1996.

Right now there is a memorial page for him on Find A Grave, but no details whatsoever, other than a birth and death date. He was famous in his own right and does not deserve such a shabby memorial.

I was hoping someone could find his obituary for me so I can perhaps add it to the short biography I created for his memorial. I plan to send the combined info to the person who set up his memorial, along with a picture I am capturing from one of his movies.

I am searching for the parents of John Q. A. Carter. It is possible that he is actually the son of John L. Calhoun who married Annette P. Hatchett. If anyone can look up his birth record, I would appreciate it! John Q. A. Carter is listed as a Carter on his service record and was born in Franklin Co. TN. about June of 1877. I can find no record of Annette's death, but I know she married Isaac Leland Carter at some point in time, because her second child Flora, born 9/17/1878 in Franklin Co. TN, is their child. Even Flora's birth record might help me verify that Annette is the daughter of Preston Hatchett. In 1880, her family lives in Henry Co. KY., where her third child Lenora was born. All her children after that time were born in KY. She had a son which she named Henry Preston Carter, which also leads me to believe that she is the daughter of Preston Hatchett & Mary Lawing of Tennessee. I need to verify that! This Annette P. was born in Nov. of 1854. On Flora's death certificate, her parents are listed as Annetta Hatchett - Tennessee & Isaac Lee Carter - Kentucky. I have also found a record where Annette P. Carter and Isaac L. Carter applied for pension after John Q. A. Carter died in the Philipines. Someone please help!! Thanks!

My great grandmother was Sarah Frances Davis. My brick wall is finding her parents. I am fairly certain her parents names were Mac Davis and Sarah Treece or VanTreece. I was also told that her family disowned her when she married. Sarah F. Davis had one full brother named Al Davis, and then several half brother and sisters so either Mac or Sarah at some point died and the other one remarried.

I also have reason to think they may have married in Franklin County TN but I have nothing solid at this point.

If any one has any info I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Male baby was born on March 21, 1960, in Tennessee. He was moved to Carroll county, Georgia, to a "boys home". A couple from Muscogee county, Georgia went to Carroll county, and took him home with them, and adopted him when he was about 10 months old. We are trying to find out the name of his biological parents. Any help or advise would be appreciated.
Debbie Sue

Hello,

I would like to correspond with the person who has the book that has inscribed in it:

"Meriwether Smith his book bought at John Winston's sale. This book at my death is to belong to my son Henry Dandridge Smith and at his death to his oldest son. So on from generation to generation....Meriwether Smith. March the 1st, 1803"

and then:
"Joseph C. Eggleston's book, bought at Meriwether Smith's sale, May 15th, 1823. At my death this book is to belong to my oldest surviving son. J.C. Eggleston"

and then:
"Joseph C. Eggleston departed this life December 26th, 1827, being 25 years and 5 days old. This Book at my death is to belong to my oldest surviving son. July 1st, 1869, E.W.Eggleston."

Last known owner I could find mentioned:

in the "Genealogies of Kentucky Families from the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society", v. I, p. 185, the same book is quoted and said to be in the possession of "Judge J.C. Eggleston's eldest son, Ned Eggleston, of Franklin, Tennessee, April 1st, 1938."

Are you out there, Ned? Have you still got the book, please?
Anna

Marriage date for grandparents Humphrey/Anderson

Bringing my request up to date. I am looking for the marriage date of my grandparents, Henry B. Humphrey (could be listed as Bert) and Cora Lee Anderson. They are from Ballard Co., KY and their first child, my mother, was born there in 1912. There is no record of their marriage in Ballard Co., therefore they must have gone elsewhere to marry. If there is anyone that can check records for Franklin Co., TN , the year span 1912 to 1916 I would be most appreciative. Thank you

John Ross Harris, Sue Harris, the Keith and Skidmores - Franklin Co TN

OK.. put half the query in the subject..

I have been searching for a old goat named Ross Harris, my g-grandfather. Its been a long chase, as he split from my great-grandmother in OK in 1915, just before the birth of their daughter Inez, my grandma.

"Facts" on Ross.. from family lore.. born tennessee somewhere around 1880.. butcher by trade.. missing right left from a horse accident in his cowboy days.. had a sister Sue.. and died up Montana/Wyoming ways.

Facts I've located.. indeed died in montana.. Carter County.. near Ekalaka.. Got a telegram from 1934 to his ex-wife informing her of it which led me to get his death certificate and coroners inquest. Thank God I had heard about the leg when the inquest had a friend refer to him as "Peggy"! 1930 Census shows him in Ekalaka, born 1875 in TN. Divorce in Johnston Co, OK (Tishimingo) in 1915, divorce unopposed by him. On divorce papers, he was referred to as J Ross Harris. And this was my dead end.

Recently turned up a 1918 WWI draft registration for one John Rossco Harris, living in Carter County Montana.. next of kin is one Sue Skidmore of Winchester, Franklin, TN. Immediate interest! is this him!!??? Examiniation shows him the only J R Harris in the area.. birth matches 1875, TN.. and.. ghoulishly.. the physical description indicates "right leg off from below the knee". OK.. maybe I jump the gun, but TOO many cross references to pass it up. This gave me not only a legal name.. but.. "Sue Skidmore, WInchester, Franklin, TN".. sister sue?

Next step.. raze Franklin county to the ground and see what i can find. Indeed, in 1910 there IS a Sue Skidmore, b about 1886 married to James F. with a kid or two. She endures on to the 1920, disappears before the 1930 there. Backtracking to 1900 looking for sue harris is a blank. So.. i decide to build the house and then lay the foundation- I go to 1880 Franklin looking for J R Harris and find a son born in 1875ish in the household of Brazilla and Mary A Harris, along with an older brother. So.. i flash forward again, looking for Mary A or Brazilla. And there is Mary A.

Mary A is living with her daughter and her son-in-law, newly weds... He is a Walter Keith, and he is 19, she 14. No children. Mary A Harris matches birth info with Brazilla's wife .. again.. building the strawman.. Mary is mother to Sam, JOhn, and Sue, with one child died bef. 1900. But.. how does Sue become Skidmore?

1905 Sue ??? marries Skidmore.. and her mother no longer lives with the happy couple. She is found living near the a Keith family, however, with a 7ish son John Kuth(sic)(b. 1902). Do I have Sue Harris m. Walter Keith ca 1900, child 1903, and abt 1904 div or widowed from Kieth? Marries Skidmore, bears a few daughters, then about 1920-1930 somewhere dies or divorces?

If someone can confirm a few things for me, or just a share, from their family knowledges there it would be a big help.

Indeed DID Sue Harris marry Walter Keith in 1900?

Is the child being raised in 1910 by Mary A Harris the sone of Walter Keith and Sue?

Is the Sue who married James F Skidmore 1905 mother of Sazrah and Mary SKidmore (b 1905 and 1908) and James and Laura (1911 and 1918) the same sue who WAS sue kieth nee Harris?

What became of Sue Skidmore? Death? Divorce?

And is there anyone with info who might be able to tell me more about the Brazilla Harris family, including mommy's maiden name? (she seems to have been a second marriage, with a first to Permelia Conyars producing a son thomas)

And who put the tribbles in the quadrotriticale? (sorry .. too much star trek today!)..

Any help would be appreciated!

Looking to establish what connection, if any exists between Jonathan (b abt 1797 NC), Samuel (b abt 1757 SC), and any other Reynolds living in or around Franklin County.

To assist in this, I am willing to pay for a Y-DNA test for any male Reynolds who is descended from a Reynolds living in or near Franklin County prior to 1880. This will assist in determining which families are, or aren't, related.

Testing is a painless procedure using a cheek swab, and will *not* reveal any information about your health or medical status. No strings attached, I'm just trying to break through a brick wall I've been struggling with for years. Testing has already allowed me to connect to Jonathan, and now I'm looking to go back one more generation.

Regards,
david
genealogy@daver.info

Is there a map of the original land grant plats for Franklin county??

Goodspeed mentions that original settlers, George Grey and the Anderson family, set about surveying Franklin County into the original 640 acre plats soon after Franklin County was created....Most of the plats were given as grants in payment for prior service in the Revolutionary or one of many other wars of the era.... at least one being given to a John Winford who is mentioned in the Goodspeed History. Mention is made of many others whose names were also known.
Where is this record?? Are there Maps with names attached showing who these original grantees were?

We are desparately seeking photos of the old Basin Springs Community. Our mother, now deceased, was born there in 1919. Her mother's maiden name was Condra, and they were longtime residents of the Sewanee community. Basin Springs was located halfway up the mt. behind the old cement plant in Cowan, TN. Most residents worked either for the Railroad or the coal mines; don't think there was road to Basin Springs, only the railroad. Tract homes were provided to the railroad employees. Can't find anyone living in Cowan who even remembers it. Help us please
Respectfully,
Ed Davis, Murfreesboro, TN sibhusk7@aol.com

First Keeton Families in Franklin Co., TN

My Keeton ancestors were among the early settlers in Franklin County. I have quite a bit of information tying them to Franklin County but would like to correspond with other researchers tracing the Keeton family lines. John Keeton, who was the first Register of Franklin County, 1809-1826, owned a plantation (farm) and raised a family there. He was involved in a lead mining business in Missouri even while he lived in Franklin County.

Hezekiah Keeton and wife Batsey, moved to Franklin County about 1820 and lived either on or near John Keeton's plantation. Hezekiah and Batsey's son, also named Hezekiah (Jr.), was a deputy sheriff in the 1820s.

I would be interested in any tidbit of info. Thanks.

Thank you
I need a lookup for a marriage between Robert Francis Anderson and Margaret Collins that supposedly occured in Franklin Co., TN between 1865 and 1869. This would have been a second marriage for Robert and first for Margaret.

Estate records for Paul Anderson, show that his son, Robert F Anderson was still living in Franklin Co., TN in the year 1874.

If anyone has access to the marriage books for this time period, I could use any help I can get.

Does anyone have any information on this cemetery if it was moved and renamed when the road was built over it or/ if they moved everyone in it to another cemetery? Surely, they would not just make a new road over a cemetery without doing something about them. Any information would be most helpful.
Cathy

DESPERATE! Need information re: Browns in Franklin Co. TN in early 1820s

Looking for information about Browns, living in Franklin Co. in early 1820s. John & Phebe (McCoy) Brown gave birth to third child, son Absolem Brown, in 1822 there; perhaps two (or more) older children as well.

Phebe (McCoy) Brown was dau. of Hugh & Jemima (Franklin) McCoy and was born Burke Co., NC abt. 1791. Jemima (Franklin) McCoy was widowed by Hugh (lost at sea returning to Scotland on business); and married William Griffin in KY abt. 1805, beginning a new family. William & Jemima (Franklin, McCoy) Griffin removed to Franklin Co., TN by 1811; Jemima became widowed again; and subsquently married Thomas Wakefield in Franklin Co., TN, where they lived out their lives.

Does ANYONE have any information on origins of the Browns or further information about John & Phebe (McCoy) Brown? I descend from third surviving son, James M. Brown, also born in TN abt. 1826-7, tho' we don't know exactly where--perhaps Franklin Co.? Another, 2nd surviving son, Joseph Henderson Brown, was also born in TN Dec. 6, 1824--also in Franklin Co.?

Would greatly appreciate any and all information. Thanks very much in advance, Kind Researchers!

William Sidney Hayes- Lived most or all of his life in Tennessee. Our old records say he was born in Bradley County, b.1816 m.Ellen Hockenhull 1850, together they produced 11 children. He was a Confederate Soldier, had several injuries, lost a leg and died November 14, 1870 by Suicide. Not sure where he is buried. The story goes that the Yankees were close by and Ellen along with a Slave loaded the family in a wagon and took them to Franklin County, where William S. was at the time. Is there a Genealogical Society in Franklin County, would like address if so. Thanks Sue hayes

Thank you

We've posted genealogy on RootsWeb at http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=socalbrownes . Descendants of John & Phoebe (PARKER) FRANKLIN and Hugh/Daniel & Jemima (FRANKLIN) McCOY, who hailed from Burke County, NC in 1700s, are highlighted, especially those of Jemima (FRANKLIN, McCOY, GRIFFIN) WAKEFIELD, of Franklin County TN history!

Granddau. and Dau. of FRANKLINs and McCOYs, Phebe McCOY, married John BROWN, whom she met and married in TN. John BROWN and brother or cousin James BROWN were both born in NC in late 1700s. John & Phebe (McCOY) BROWN lived in Franklin County, TN, presumably where they had at least four of their seven children, before removing to SE IL in 1828. We have a brick wall at John BROWN and James BROWN and hope you may hold some *key* information for us!

Hope you find some connection to our growing group of cousins online and contact us soon!

Kindest regards,
Joan & Dean Browne

Still desperate! Need info on Browns/Brownes in Franklin Co. in 1820s!

Looking for information about Browns/Brownes*, living in Franklin Co. in early 1820s. John & Phebe (McCoy) Brown gave birth to third child, son Absolem Brown, in 1822 there (per published interview of Absolem) and perhaps two older children, David and Lucinda, as well as *likely* two younger sons, Joseph H. Brown and James M. Brown (sic).

Does *anyone* have any information on origins of the Browns/Brownes* or further information about John & Phebe (McCoy) Brown? I descend from third surviving son, James M. Brown, also born in TN abt. 1826-7. Another, 2nd surviving son, Joseph Henderson Brown, was also born in TN Dec. 6, 1824. Is there any info in Franklin Co. about them?

Would *greatly* appreciate any and all information, as we have a *huge* brickwall with John Brown and can't go any further back without more information from Franklin County. Hopefully you can help us, as there are now *many* Brown/Browne* cousins and researchers in our line stumped and counting on us!

Thanks very much in advance.

*My Grandfather, Henry Marshall Browne, added the *e*, as did his three brothers, tho' we don't yet know why. Could it be that's their correctly spelled surname?
