I am searching for any information on James L. Lane who lived in Dyer County, Tennesse on the Obion River in the 1850's. Had a store, sold supplies and livestock to people heading west, and also ran a ferry across the river. Was called Lanes Landing or Lanes Ferry. Also there was a post office and was stamped Lanes. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,rle

I do not know if my Lane ancestors came from Dyer County, TN or not. I have a George C. Lane born 1849 and his brother James born in 1847. There may be other children that I haven't found yet.
I do not know where they were born, but I have George in Tallatchie, MS in 1876 when my grandfather James Judson (or Judd)Lane was born. George married Elizabeth Carpenter, I don't know where or when.
James and Georges' father was James and mother was Carolina. I don't know Carolina's last name. Actually, I don't know much at all, do I.?
Do any of these names match up to anything you have??
I guess I could use lots of help, and any would be greatly appreciated......Thanks, Mary

I believe James Lane may have been killed in the Civil War, although I am not sure of that. His son Joseph Lycurgus Lane was injured in Civil war, came home and married Hattie Blankenship, and in 1871 traveled with her family to Prairie Grove AR, where he promptly died. His son was born a few months later and was my great grandfather.
I would love to know more about the Lane family.

I think you will find that George C. Lane born about 1851 and wife Elizabeth Carpenter lived in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, according to the 1880 and 1910 census, had son William E. (Ed), Ose O. who was blind and stayed in bed all the time, Mary who married a Bloodworth, Mattie who married Dave Ross, Spencer who never married, George who married Edna Carpenter, Ira who married Bertha Kilgore, James J (is that Judd), Lee Andrew who married Sally Oliver (my grandparents). George's mother was Caroline (born about 1820)and sister Nancy Lane (about 1860) I would like to know how you learned the name of George's father. What connection do we have to Dyer County, TN

I have been working on Lane family for years. My mother was a Lane from Dyer Co. Tenn. Samuel Alexander Lane was my great=grandfather. He was one of James Lane's son. According to information I have James J. or Jerome who was called "Rome" owned Lane's Ferry and store in Lane, Tn. Would be happy to share what information I have that you might want and would like to have any information you might have on the Lane's that I don't have.

My e-mail is chloe@yrless.net and I live in Missouri. Looking forward to hearing from you.
