Hello,
I am interested in exchanging with those who might be researching the Estes/Estee/Ester family of
Dickson County.
Jesse and Margaret
Estes were the parents of both Joshua G. Estes and Joel Dean
Estes. I am interested in both of these men as I believe they intermarried into my Thomas family.
Joshua
Estes married Eliza Thomas, sister of
Howell Calvin Thomas, daughter of John W. and Delila
Davidson Thomas. The families had a long history in
Dickson County.
I am attempting to confirm that Joel Dean, brother of Joshua, also married the daughter of
Howell Calvin Thomas (Sarah D. Thomas).
I know that Joel Dean went on to marry Cynthia "Betty"
Myatt (9 Sep 1884,
Dickson County, Joel D. Estes and E.E. Myatt), however I believe an earlier record of marriage exists for Joel. J.D. Estes and S.D. Thomas are listed as married 7 or 9 May 1877 in
Dickson County.
On the 1880 census I find Joel '
Dee"
ESTUS in the family home of his father, Jesse, and Joel is listed as age 25 and working for the railroad.
However, in 1880,
Dickson, District 4, I also find the following:
ESTERS, Joshua, 41, farmer,(all entries for HH are TN/TN/TN)
Eliza, 45, wife, keeping house
Margaret D., 10, daughter
James M., 8, son
Sarah D., 18, sister-in-law, ast in keeping house
I believe Sarah Thomas
Estes died at a young age. I have read other posts on Joel Dean
Estes suggesting he was father to a Charles
Estes born prior to his 1884 to Cynthia Betty
Myatt. I can not locate the Charles described, however, I locate an Alex
Estes located living next door to Joel on 1900 census and later in Dist 4 of
Dickson.
I'd be interested in learning if
Howell Calvin Thomas had
Estes grandchildren.
