History of the Tubb Family by George M Tubb as written to his neice, Maggie Tubb circa 1912

Origin of the Tubb Family which is now very large but come from a very small beginning.
In the early part of the 18th century was only one person, and Englishman name Tubb, settled in the eastern part of what is now the United States, married and after two sons were born he disappeared from the country, whether of his own will or the act of an enemy I do not know. After this his wife married again, and these two boys were bound out and grew to manhood under considerable disadvantages. And when grown both married and raised large families. And from these two families they increased very rapidly. One of these sons raised a boy named George, the other a girl named Elizabeth, married and raised five sons and five daughters, namely: Richard, Isaac, Jesse, Nathan, and James; their daughters were : Martha, Mary, Phoebe (I an not sure as to her name) Haren Happuck, and Elizabeth. George Tubb moved with his family from South Carolina to Tennessee about the year 1808 and settled in Dickson county on Barton's Creek, and next year moved to Johnson Creek in same county, and lived at that place until he died in 1835 or 1836. Richard, his eldest son, married, and the year of 1820 or 1821 moved with his family to Alabama. Isaac married and settled near his father and raised three or four children, but died before they were grown. His widow with her children moved to Alabama before they were grown. Jesse died in boyhood. Nathan married Lovey Leech about 1817, settled near his father in Dickson county. Their first born son died in infancy; their other children, five boys and two girls lived to be grown. In January 1839, Nathan Tubb moved with his family to Humphreys county and settled on Blue Creek, where he lived until his death, which was Sept 20, 1852. His wife Lovey Tubb, died Aug 19 1855. More about Nathan Tubb's family later on.

James Tubb married and settled in Dickson county near his father and about the year 1829 he moved to Alabama. He raised several children. He was a Primative Baptist preacher. Martha married a man by the name of Middleton. They lived with them for a time in Maury County; the latter (part) of his life was spent in Perry County, now Decatur county.

Mary married a man by the name of Davidson. She was the mother of four children. After her death and the death of one of the children, Davidson moved to Alabama with the others.

Pheobe (I am not sure of the name) married a man by the name of Cooksey. She was the mother of six children. George Cooksey, her eldest son, lived on Yellow Creek in Dickson Coutny; some of his children and grand children are still living in that county. Haren Happuck married Phillip Nolen. She settled near her father. She was the mother of four children: Johnathaon, Martha, Elizabeth, and George. Elizabeth, youngest daughter of George Tubb, married W S Coleman. She had no children

One of the grand daughters of the first named Tubb married a man named Bated. He lived in Hickman County on Cane Creek. Some of their descendants still live in Hickman County. One of them, Alonzo Bates, a lawyer at Centerville. Another one of his granddaughters married a man named Few. One of his sons lived and died on Garners Creek in Hickman County. Her name was Jane. One of the sons ? married Washington Few, lived and died on Garners creek in Hickman County. William Few, another son of Jane Few, lived and raised a family on Hurricane creek in Humphreys county. One of his daughters married ----- Clark, a lawyer of Centerville; another one of them married Gardner Moody; and one -----married James Baker. Jerry Tubb, one of the grand sons of the original Tubb, settled in Perry County and raised a large family; some of them are still living in Decatur county.

The descendants of Nathan Tubb and Lovey Tubb were Edward L Tubb, who died when a small boy, Nove 16, 1819; 2nd Daniel Tubb, who married Jane Tolan. His first child, named Puss, married Dennis Jones. She was the mother of several children, 2nd J D Tubb, who now lives on hurrican Creek (1912). Daniel Tubb died Sept 26, 1852. Sarah L Tubb married George Crockett. She was the mother of four children: 1st Nthan H Crockett, whodied when a small child; 2nd Isaac T Cockett, who married Amanda Craft.

His children are still living (1912). His wife died Feb 23rd 1912. 3rd Lovey Crockett, who married James Mays. They have four children, Elizabeth Jane (Tubb) who married David Johnson. She raised two children: 1st I N Johnson, who lives at Martin, Tenn; 2nd M F Johnson, who married William Bowen. After his death she married Polk Yates. I guess you know as much about the family as I do. 4th, George M Tubb. I supporse that you know my family too well for me to write anything about them. 5th James F Tubb, who married Jane Vaden. They raised one child that now lives in Missouri (1912). 6th Isaac Tubb, who married ------Cash.
