They also state he died in 1860, but he is not on the mortality index for DeKalb Co.

I have the marriages for DeKalb but did not see them listed in the bk.

Good Luck,

Rayedene
The following snippet suggests William T. Mallory lived in Montgomery Co TN before migrating to Graves Co KY--this is the key info:

The Webb Families of DeKalb County, Tennessee and 23 Related Families
By Thomas Gray Webb
Published by Bradley Printing Co., 2002
Original from the University of Wisconsin - Madison
682 pages

“…Dot Cantrell and Mary Ann Green were evidently divorced before or soon after this son was born, and about 1871, Mary Ann Green married William T. Mallory, 1819-1885, and they moved to Graves Co, Ken-
tucky and had seven Mallory children. William T. Mallory is thought to have had a family by an earlier wife in Montgomery, Co, Tennessee…”

I believe he was William T. Mallory, son of John Mallory born abt 1800 Caswell, NC, USA:

William Thomas Mallory-1[1] was born 1824 (subject to verification) in Montgomery, Tennessee, USA[2]. Census 1860 in Montgomery, Tennessee, USA (North and east of Cumberland River, age 35).

He first married Elizabeth Ann Robertson[2]. Her birth Abt. 1826 in North Carolina, USA (or 1821 in VA). Census 1850 in Montgomery, Tennessee, USA. She was also known as Eliza.
Someone has misread the old records. It is "Short Mountain". South west of Smithville. "Old" JOhn Martin and Anthony Parsley were commissioned by the new DeKalb Co officials to "view and lay out" a road from Smithville to the County Line" near Short MOuntain. John Martin had land south of Sink Creek which was just north or the new Warren County line.

Thank you for your reply but there does not seem to be any Bates listed much in the DeKalb County Records. There are plenty in the Census records but not in the Archives.
I will just keep on searching. It probably was before then anyway. I found the last Census on him, I believe it was in 1880. It must have been after that and before 1908.
His children of course I found much later. Some moved to Putnam Co and others moved various places. Thanks for the information.

Hello,

If he died before 1908 he will not have an official death record filed as the State of Tennessee did not start requiring the counties to record deaths by law until 1908. If you think he could have died after 1908, here is a link to the Tennessee State Library and Archives site where they have the years 1908-1928 indexed:

http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/vital/index.htm

Hope this helps.

Melissa Barker
Genealogist for Tennessee and Kentucky
E-Mail: kaitysmom@peoplestel.net

Would someone be kind enough to look up death info on
Colonial Guild Bates born in Dekalb County, TN in 1846. If there is an exact birth date that would be great too. Colonial as I understand was part of his given name. He married Phalbry Jane Sewell on 31 Jan 1863. Both were in 1880 census so I am sure their death was after that.
CHILDREN are as follows: Syntha b.1865 Dekalb, TN; William B b. 22 Nov. 1866; Emily b. 1868 TN, Anderson 1873 TN; Joseph b. 1875 Dekalb, TN; Nettie b. 1876, & Mattie b. 1878.
PARENTS: William Bates b. 1819 Dekalb, TN & died after 1860 sometime, married to Cyntha Seyntha Parker b. 1816, TN.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks so much for all the info! Without looking, I believe I have found some of this, but certainly not all of it.

As I believe I shared with you, my grandfather was Byrd (John Byrd) Medlen who was married to Maggie Billings. My father John Byrd (J.B.)Jr.(12/10/1912)(married Linnie O. Hayes), was the oldest of 5 children (Maudell Medlen Hicks (1914)(married Clayton Hicks) - one son, Jim Hicks; LD Medlen - two adopted children, Joanna and Robert; Mabel Medlen Burgess - no children; Charley Milton (married Edith Davis)- one son, Kenneth Medlen (12/29/1954) married Jewel Burks. Uncle Charley and his family live in the McMinnville area. I was born 4/2/1942 and my brother Larry Hayes Medlen was born 9/24/1946.

My grandparents are buried at Peel Chestnut, and so is Aunt Mabel and Aunt Maudell. My mother and dad are buried in McMinnville, TN, Uncle LD and wife Almyra Walkup Medlen are buried in Murfreesboro. I lived in several surrounding states until I married (James N. Heaton) in 1983. I moved to Lexington, KY in 1980 as a state Textiles & Clothing Specialist with the UK Cooperative Extension Service and have been here ever since. Jim and I did not have any childred. My brother, Larry, lives in Franklin, TN and has two children: Justin Scott Medlen (6/6/1980) (married to Kristin Trent), and Jared Blake Medlen (2/15/1984).

Hello,

Can you give us some dates for the people involved in this family? While the McGinnis name is not that common, the Clark name certainly is and dates or time periods for their lives or their time spent in DeKalb County could be helpful?

Melissa Barker
Genealogist for Tennessee and Kentucky
E-Mail: kaitysmom@peoplestel.net

Hello,

I can't find anything about Skirt Mountain, however, Banard Creek is in DeKalb County. So, I would assume Skirt Moutain is in the same place, maybe with a different name.

Yes, Sally is definately a nickname for Sarah. A lot of ladies were called Sally when their given birth name as Sarah.

As for the Jr. and Sr. aspect. I have actually seen it both ways. The Jr. could have the complete full name of his father or not.

As for finding a burial for John, I believe DeKalb County has a publication that has transcribed the counties cemeteries. Now that doesn't mean that every headstone has been accounted for and it also doesn't take into consideration the fact that John's headstone could be missing or has deteriorated over time and is now gone.

Melissa Barker
Genealogist for Tennessee and Kentucky
E-Mail: kaitysmom@peoplestel.net

Hello,

Unfortunately, the DeKalb County newspapers do not go back as far as 1873, so an obituary can not be obtained in this county.

According to the dates you gave this man lived to be 109 years old.

I did a quick check of the Ancestry.com Family Trees and there are several listings for this man and his wives, but no one has positive parents listed. One person has parents "possibly" as John Martin and Mary Unknown.

Another thing I noticed is a lot of the researchers have him being born in Maryland and not South Carolina, not sure if that is correct information.

Melissas Barker
Genealogist for Tennessee and Kentucky
E-Mail: kaitysmom@peoplestel.net

I was just wondering what connection these McBrides have to the DeKalb County area and what years they would have lived in the area?

A lot of us have access to sources that we can check for information, but we need a time frame of when they would have been in the county.

So, were they born in DeKalb County? I did look for Sarah Adcocks in the Dekalb Co. TN Cem. book but didn't find one that fit the time period you were asking for(birth & death wise)

Sarah Liza who went by "Liza" also, was still living in Dekalb Co. TN. in the 1930 census, one time she is listed as born 1876 and one census as born 1886.
There is a Sarah Adcock 1886-1941 buried in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery in Dekalb Co. TN., we are wondering if this is the Sarah Liza (Young) Adcock, that we are looking for.
This is not my line, I am helping my neighbor, who is an Adcock, that decends, from Isaac Tildon and Sarah Liza (Young) Adcock's son Berger Adcock born in 1901 in Dekalb Co. TN. Thanks for any help and for your time. Shelia

Marie,
In the 1900 Dekalb Co. TN. census, Sarah is listed as born June 1876, but in one or two of the census she seemed to get a little younger, born abt. 1886.. Mr. Adcock made a trip to the Johnson Chapel Cemetery sometime back, saw Sarah's headstone, didn't write the dates down, but was trying to give me the dates-1886-1941 from memory, so I guess he was a little off on the dates. Burger/Berger and Mary E.(Johnson) Adcock are his grandparents. Sarah Adcock, would be his great grandmother, if that is the Sarah Liza Adcock, that was Burger Adcock's mother. My neighbor knew nothing about his great grandmother, and I was just trying to help him find his ancestors. I believe that could be the Sarah Adcock, that we are looking for. Thank You, that has been helpful. Shelia

Did you ever find out what county in NC Arch was from? It seems likely that the Jones and Allen families came to TN about the same time. There is also an Elizabeth White (b. abt. 1800 in NC)living with her daughter Caroline, who may also be connected to these families. She is found living near Arch in DeKalb in several of the census.
Claudia
