In reading the civil war pension files of my gggrandfather it is stated by his widows that his fathers name was Samuel. It was also stated that Mahalia died young, James and Mahalia's mom died when they were young. Samuel had been badly burned in the war(Mexican?) which is why James b1843 had been sent to live with his grandmother in DeKalb Co. His grandmother remained unnamed.His first wife, Sabra Richardson Maynard Elrod, also stated that one of his kin was Andy Maynard. In one of the affadavits, Luther Suggs says that he and James Calvin worked together on the same plantation but he did not say where that plantation was.
