I dont know if there are any Howard's on here that were related to him but if there is I hope you could provide more information about what kind of man he was or even supply any pictures.I know he has a findagrave entry and I have been in contact with one of his children who was born a few months after he was shot. She is looking for any information/pictures anyone may have.
Thanks!

Different family trees on this site give three differnt sets of parents for Jacob Thomas, born 3/26/1752 in Cumberland TN. The three sets are: 1) John Thomas/Ursula Earhart, 2) Richard Thomas III/Phebe Ashbridge, 3) Issac Thomas, Elizabeth Massingale.
Most trees have John Thomas but no documents to back up. Anybody know which set is correct and have documentation to support?

Hello, David,

I am Linda Brown Kerley, your first cousin, born and raised in Crab Orchard, Cumberland County, TN. I knew your father (Uncle Litton, and our mother, Rose). I also met a couple of your mother's sisters when they came up for a visit years ago, one was named Grace and one named Hazel.

My mom was Marie Melton, who married Lawton Brown, my father.
In addition to Litton and Marie, there were Robert (Bob), whose wife was also named Rose, Wilma Jean, Wanda, Carol, and George. I believe the only ones surviving are Carol, George, and maybe Bob. I have old photos of our grandparents, William and Beatrice Hassler Melton, and will be happy to share what information that I have with you. I can tell you that our grandfather, William Melton, was a sweet, hardworking, wonderful man. I did not know our grandmother, Beatrice "Bea", as she passed away when I was an infant, but have heard that she was sweet and kind, too.

Looking forward to your reply.

Your country cousin,
Linda Brown Kerley

I have attached a Tennessee Death Record for a child that looks to have been born in Rogers, TN. Is that now part of Crab Orchard? I am unable to find Rogers or Rogus on any map and could use another set of eyes to see if I'm reading the birthplace incorrectly (see attached).

The parents were in Campbell County (child was living in Morley at time of death), but I can't find anything close to Rogers in Campbell County.

Thank you,

The fued was internal within our own (my father's siblings) line. Uncle Dean was the person who always organized the reunions. Unfortunately, he has passed.

Deaton's father was Rufus and his mother was Tennessee (Tennie) Mitchell. Rufus' father was William H. Adams, his mother was Malvina Reynolds (married 11/3/1852 in Dekalb County). I assume that William's mother was Mary as she lived with them on the 1860 census.

I am stuck as well. I suspect William H. is related to the Jacob Adams/Abraham Adams families, however I have not found a link.

You can read RA Dennis' history of Cannon County which states Malvina was once married to Pleas Reynolds. I truly discount this as she was only 25 when she and William H. married. He also stated her supposed sister, Elizabeth was married to Peter Adams and WG Crowley was her son. Elizabeth would have been 11 yrs old when she gave birth (according to the census). I don't put much stock into his account without further research.

Most of the Adams moved away to Michigan and Indiana (in search of factory work). I have a cousin who also does research, unfortunately we haven't spoken in years.

Is there anyone who might have known what the family fued was about?

Do you have any connection or contacts with anyone who might be related to the Adams line in Tennessee, I would be willing to contact anyone that might recall any family information about the Adams.
My grandfather was Deaton Adams' oldest son, Charlie (Charley in the 1920 census). My grandfather was a member of the Masonic Temple (freemasons). Uncle Dean (Deet Jr.) lived in Missouri following his discharge from the service. I don't know if he was ever a mason.

Deaton Sr. was a foreman of a railroad crew made up of African Americans. He passed away in either 1964 or 1965 before I was born.

His first wife was Hattie G. Roberts. She died at age 34. They had the following children: Myrtle (1911), Charley (11/12/1912) and Stanley.

He had a second marriage but I forget Granny Adams' first name. She was a Hedgecoth I think who married a Brown. They had several children. Geneva, Buster, Deet Jr. (Dean) and one other.

We used to hold an Adams family reunion at the Cumberland County Sate Park every Labor Day weekend. Uncle Dean and his wife Maxine divorced. Then my grandfather died. It seemed like no one was willing to organize the reunions. There was also a family feud.

The book spoken of earlier is called "The Barbed Wire" it is written by Gerhard Hennes. He was a German officer in WWII. He was captured and was a POW at Camp Crossville, Tennessee.

The website that was posted, by another response post, is for the Military Museum in Crossville, TN.

My husband's grandfather was in the US Army and stationed at Camp Crossville,TN. He served as a guard there. We drove down to Crossville last month. We went to the site of Camp Crossville POW Camp. I took a photo of the only still standing part of the facility. It is a smokestack.

"Camp Crossville 1942-1945. Opened in November 1942, one of the first priosoner of war camps during WWII. Camp Crossville housed over 1,500 German and Italian prisoners of war. Designated for officers, the camp held General Pietro Gazzeri, one of the Italian army's highest ranking officers. Also housed here were German officers of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's famed Afrika Kops. Camp Crossville was located on the Cumberland Plateau. nine miles west of Crossville on the citee of the Civilian Conseration Corps camp. It closed in December 1945." I recorded this from the historical marker at the site.

Today the site is the home of York 4 H Camp for youth in the Cumberland Tennessee area.

Cindy Threat Cooper

There is an 1898 map on TNGENWEB that may be useful.

http://www.tngennet.org/cumberland/campaign.html

"Cumberland County's First Hundred Years", pg. 70 has a similar same map c 1890 showing the 12 districts.

The county archives may have more information if you provide your family's names.

Cathy
Archive Volunteer
Grassy Cove was in the Eastern District of Bledsoe County, Tennessee on the 1850 census. There are three Moses Greers - Two in Household 605, one in Household 611; pages 86 and 87 (pages 395 A and B, stamped).

I am trying to find the correct Moses Greer in the 1850 Census. I know Cumberland County wasn't founded until 1855.

Can someone tell me in what "district" Grassy Cove would have been in 1850? On Ancestry, rather than listing counties, they list district in the 1850 census. A lot of Moses Greers appear.
