In the 1930's she became a registered nurse and married William Huttinger. Family members have told me that they are buried in Tennessee, they think in Celina. That is the last known residence. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone out there has.

I have grown up in Arkansas (JC left TN in 1926 with my grandmother-Ethie Jenkins, my father Carey Franklin Roberts and uncle Howard G. Roberts. I am fairly certain the my half uncle Jeff was with them also.) Every one who knows anything is gone now and I am trying to trace my family. Any information would be great.

John Clements (Clemans, Clemmons)and Elizabeth Eckells (Eakle, Eagle)came to Jackson County TN in 1806 from Augusta County VA. John was a Revolutionary War vet and I have his pension application. They had a large family and I believe all of the children, John M, Christopher, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Margaret, came too. Christopher ended up in Clay County, yet he and most of his sons were lawyers, so were in Gainesboro often. I am not sure if John Clements lived out his life in the Gainesboro area or moved to Clay County. I would love to connect with anyone researching this family. I have lots of information.

I am posting a link to some information I have gathered on my line of Thackers and other lines. I am interested in obtaining any information I can on Absalom Thacker. I know that he was either born in VA or NC. In 1936 he appears in Hawkins Cty and marries a Catherine Winegar. He is in Grainger Cty in 1850, in 1860 Catherine is in Claiborne Cty with her children. Absalom had remarried, Mary Earls, and had a son with her, George Washington Thacker b.1858. Absalom died about 1860 in or around Clay Cty. Mary Earls then marries Alexander Smith in Mudlick IN. If any of this sounds familiar or you have information please contact me. I would love to share what I have.

http://pictures.aol.com/galleries/elmemmo

Ellen
Does anyone know whether Turkeytown Cemetary ever been surveyed - burials recorded, etc? I'd prefer something organized by burial location but I will be ecstatic if I can find anything at all.

If it has been, how can I go about getting a copy?

-- Same questions about McDonald Cemetary

Is "Moss Cemetary" the same cemetary that is next to the Church of Christ on Hwy 52 or is there another? Or more than one other?

I'd appreciate any information.

Thanks,

Pam

TAYS/TAYES/TAYSE -- JOHNSON -- NEELY/NEALY

Loking for more info on my grandmother Rebecca Tayes (sp??) who married Wint Johnson, son of Bill Johnson and Julie Hughs. She was born in 1886/87, married in 1904, and died in 1960. She was daughter of Sam Tayes and MIranda Neely (have seen spelling on this as MARanda Neely and MORanda Nealy as well - may/ may not be same person)
She came from Clay/Overton county (Hilham/Celina) area. She and Wint had a farm (~100 acres) that State of TN took away and flooded as part of the TVA Dale Hollow Damn project. As a little girl, she did not go to school - she had a tutor teacher her (well-to-do family ???)She usually went by the name of Beckey. Both my mother and grandmother had very clear Native American features. My grandmother is buried in a graveyard which is actually inside the Standing Stone State Park (believe it's the Johnson family or Concord graveyard)

This is all I have to go on, so please, I need any help that I can get! Thanks very much
Dr. Barton H. Moss

Hello everyone, I am looking for information on my 3rd great grandfather Dr. Barton H. Moss and his marriage to his first wife Marinda Carter born 1845 in Tn, and died 1880 in TN. Barton's date of birth was 20 May 1845 and date of death as 20 Jul 1933 in Willow, Oklahoma. I have the 1870 and 1880 census with them together.

I can't find any census with my 3rd great granmother Ella Moss listed.

Ella Moss - McAlpin(e) born 3 Nov 1866 in Clay - Jackson Co, Tn and died 18 May 1947 in Addington, Jefferson co, OK her father is Dr. Barton Harlon Moss, her mother is suppose to be Marinda M. Carter

Barton and Marinda were married in 1867 1 year after Ella's birth so i'm thinking Ella's mother may be someone else..

Ella Moss married George Washington McAlpin(e) between 1880 and 1883 had three children. They split up and She remarried to a George W. Kendall and ahd more children.

Family history handed down by word of mouth was that Marinda died in the 1880. My great grandmother Clara (Ella's grand daughter) told us that Barton was treating a patient and he died of natural causes, but the patients wife blamed Barton and put quick silver in Bartons well killing Marinda and several children.

Does this ring a bell with anyone, I am at a loss on verifing this and could use a push in the right direction.

I am searching for information about my ggrandmother. My grandfather did not know where she was buried and I'm not having much luck myself.
Alta is in the 1910 Clay Co. census (21y/o). She had her youngest child in 1912. Her husband's (John Wesley Veatch) WWI draft card dated June 1917 lists him as single and sole support of his children. So her est. death date is between 1912 and 1917.
My question is, are there any sources to check for that time period to see what cemetery she might be buried in? My feeling is that she has no stone, but I would love to at least know the cemetery.
Thank you very much.
She was probably from Clay Co. but could have been Jackson or Macon Cos. Her living children were Dewey, Gettie (Sewell), and Lanzy Veatch. I do not know the names of any of her parents, siblings, etc. I do know that she died at a young age. ANY leads would be greatly appreciated.

JOHNSON -- TAYS (TEAS, TASE, TAYSE, TEASE) -- SMITH

My grandmother was Rebecca Tayes who married Wint Johnson in 1904. She was born in 1886 and was daughter of Sam Tayes (or Tays/Tayse/etc) and MIranda Neely (have seen spelling on this as MARanda Nealy and MORanda Neely as well - may/ may not be same person)

Her father and mother may have moved into Overton county -- could not find an entry in the 1880 census -- but we believe my grandmother was born in the Clay/Overton county area (Hilham/Celina)

As a little girl, she did not go to school - she had a tutor as a teacher (well-to-do family ???) She usually went by the name of Beckey.

Beckey and Wint had a farm (~100+ acres) that State of TN took away and flooded as part of the TVA Dale Hollow Dam project. Both my mother and grandmother had very clear Native American features. My grandmother died in 1960 in Sparta.

Beckey Johnson's daughter was my mother (Bonnie Evelyn Johnson) who married Leo ("Chig") Fred Smith in 1944.

I am having an awful time trying to trace the Johnson / Tayes side of my family given the many ways that Tayes might have been spelled! Please, any help that I can get is much appreciated!!

Thank you
Jerry Smith

There are two different family groups listed during this census. One is John Dunham (listed other years as Dunning), who has Frances, Callie, Archie (my grandfather), Stephen B., John F, Buelah, and Carmach. The other Dunham is Oliver P. with Martha and their children does anyone know who this Oliver is? I think the "P" might stand for Perry. Thank you, Sheri

Solomon died before 1850 and Sarah after 1860 (she was 89 and living with Daughter Catherine Marcum in 1860). Catherine and Balaam Marcum are buried in the Dennis/Marcum cemetery.
According to "Clay County, Tennessee Tombstone Inscriptons" by Walter e. Webb there was a Roberts Cemetery in Celina on land once owned by the Roberts family. I am interested in Roberts buried in this cemetery. I don't have access to this book.
Appreciate any help with the Roberts family.

My granduncle James C. "Jim" Green s/o William Robert and Etna Ann Nelson Green. (05/06/1882 - 08/26/1968) married Minnie Lee Unknown. She was born 10/02/1884 - 07/29/1952. Both are buried in the Whitley Cemetery, Red Boiling Springs. According to the 1930 Clay Co. census they had sons Walter (14) & Willie (11).

According to Doug Moore and other records there was a Minnie Lee McLerran d/o Lafayette born in Oct. 1884. I suspect this may be the w/o James C. and would like to prove/disprove it.

Any information regarding this McLerran or Green family greatly appreciated.

I will be visiting Clay County in July to find out more about the Clements family and I am curious about the driving from Nashville to Clementsville. Yahoo map shows that it is 80+ miles and that we go into KY and back to TN to get there.
Is this mountainess terrain? Can we easily drive from Nashville to Clementsville in 90 minutes?
Should we stay in Nashville (we want to use the State Library) or is there a place closer to Clementsville?
Are there any historical societies close to Clementsville or any place to let us know what cemeteries are close by?
Are there any Clements left in Clementsville?
Karen

William Daniel (born abt 1862) married Belle ? (born abt 1872). Belle's last name might be one of the three listed in the subject. Bill Daniel somtimes operated a horse drawn ferry boat somplace in Clay County. They also lived in Wayne County, KY which is where they were when they died sometime in the 40's. They had four children, two of which lived to maturity. It is likely that Belle comes from TN and by my not knowing her exact maiden name I am unable to presue her line back any farther. Any help will be most appreciated. They were in Wayne County in the 1920 census.

I'm seeking information of parents of Thomas Newton Clay. Thomas was born in 1810 in Bedford County, TN and married Sabrae Ray. They had about 13 children. I cannot find the parents of Thomas. The 1820 Bedford County, TN census list a Samuel Clay with 2 daughters and wife but no son. He is the only Clay I find on that year's census. Any help you can provide will be very much appreciated.
