Dad died about 3 years ago and never spoke about this child to me or my brother and sister.

I just found out about this possible half brother about a month ago and I am running into dead ends so far. If anyone out there knows the family and what happened to them, please contact me.

Some of their sons were William, Christian, Pleasant, John, Matthew, Isaac. Willing to share what information I have.

There are three unengraved stones in that cemetery that may be Joseph Surber and his two wives. I know that sometimes there are plot lists that list the graves and who is buried there. The graves are not listed in Johnson's book.

It is suspected that John(aka Jack)Buchanan moved from Botetourt County, Fincastle, VA to Claiborne County where he later died. Raney Buchanan married Annie Parrot(unsure if correct name), and his offspring lived and married in Claiborne County also. I am most interested in the Buchanan, Teague and Grayson family line.

Elizabeth Coleman born 1811 North Carolina married Alfred Corbin abt. 1831 in Claiborne County, TN. She is listed as a widow on the 1860 census, but on the 1870 and 1880 Union County census, she is listed with her son-in-law John Collinsworth as Elizabeth McNew.

Alfred Corbin's will was made in 1853, so his death is figured between 1853-1860 census time. Any other marriage she might have had would have been after 1860, but again widowed from a McNew before 1870.

Can anyone find marriage records of William C. Maples? I have some trepidation with Sarah's first married name. Maybe there is some marriage records for her. Her daughter Jane Martin is living with William and Sarah on the 1900 census along with her daughter Cordie Rice. Jane is divorced it would seem from Clinton Rice. Her name being Martin makes me wonder if Sarah's first marriage was to a Martin rather than a Partin.

I do know that it had occurred sometime between 1906 and 1910. I just need a confirmation. If someone can look up the information it would be greatly appreciated.

Robert Cary and John Tate Families in Claiborne Co., Tennessee 1800-1802

A fellow Tate family researcher has in her possession a family register prepared for Robert Cary dated 1800. She has provided me with a photocopy of the complete booklet. The original, she says, is covered in linen. The inside of the front and back cover depict samples of cursive writing, which means the blank booklet may have been manufactured as a school notebook.

Walter Evans made the first entries in 1800. He apparently updated the document in 1802. Many entries are for persons born after 1802, which are in several different handwritings. I have left the original capitalization and spelling intact within quotation marks.

From the “History of Claiborne County,” transcribed by Fred Smoot, Walter Evans was the Clerk of the County Court for Claiborne County between 1801 and 1816.

Page 1

“Containing the names & ages of the offsprings of Robert & Patty Cary.

I am researching Elias Harrison and his wife Martha ? who were apparently in Washington Co.NC and then in Claiborne Co. maybe not moving but the lines changed. Elias first appears as a juror in 1802. I would like to know his parents and Martha's surname. Marla Brubaker was kind enough to send me a great deal of information about them after 1802, Now I need to know the earlier generations. Elias son, Daniel, married Elizabeth Weaver, who may have been the daughter of David Weaver, a Cherokee Cheif. Does anyone know anything about that? Thanks for any help you all can give me.

He moved to Louisiana after the war to marry Mary Ellen Cox, sister of Zackariah Cox whose parents were John Wilson Cox, b.1825, and Angelina Richardson, b. 1818 of Louisiana. His father, I was told was Alfred M. Fletcher, whose father was James Fletcher. I need anything that will document these kinfolks. Thanks

If surname spelling not alphabetized, then y'all would have to guess what spelling the record scribe happened to use (hard to guess!). For instance the 1860 an 1880 US censuses of Jeremiah Mosley spelled his surname Moseley, as I recall

BTW: using the email addresses listed on databases moseley1 and moseley2 will get you faster and more accurate replies, rather than writing using this particular email address listed for all my rootsweb Board postings.

I am looking for a person who corresponded with me last year regarding this family. I had a hard drive crash, and do want to get in touch with this person. However I don't recall her name.

Our connection is through the Howell family. Manervy Howell was an older sister to my great great grandfather, John Claibourne Howell. They were children of Anderson Howell & Elizabeth Stewart from Lee Co., VA. into Hancock Co. TN.

Please email me at mdm5155@aol.com

Thanks,

Michael

He is in Grainger Cty in 1850, in 1860 Catherine is in Claiborne Cty with her children. Absalom had remarried, Mary Earls, and had a son with her, George Washington Thacker b.1858.
I am looking at a power-of-attorney from John Terry to Thomas Brown. It is in reference to a piece of land belonging to Jonathan Harrison and Mercy Terry Harrison in Botetourt County Virginia. In it Jonathan Harrison and Mercy Terry are living now in Claiborne County, Tenn. I am trying to find out the names of their children living with them. I know that they had at least one son named Elisha Harrison, born probable in Virginia. I believe there was at least one son older than him, possibly Elias Harrison. Can anyone help? Thanks
