I am looking for information to confirm that Joseph DeWhitt, who was born in KY in 1800 and died after 1874 in Carroll County, is related to brothers Rev. Samuel DeWhitt (1792-1853) and William DeWhitt (1794-1847), both born in SC. William was my 3rd great-grandfather. I believe, but have not been able to document, that Joseph was their younger brother.

Samuel & William migrated to TN & KY around 1800. Joseph was known to be in Carroll County before 1826 because his son, Samuel, was born there in that year. The document "Holly Hill Historical Notes by R. L. Roberts" states that "The influence of Barton W. Stone's "Christian church" or "church of Christ" began in West Tennessee with the mid-1820s migration to Carroll and Henderson Counties of several families who were members of the old Christian Union Church (now the Church of Christ, Gamaliel, KY) and Old Mulkey (Mill Creek Church) in Monroe County, KY originally Barren County) where Samuel and William lived. Samuel was an itinerant Church of Christ evangelist who is known to have been one of the earliest preachers to visit Roan's Creek where the Church of Christ annual camp meeting was conducted from 1832 until the Civil War.
