John Hale Revolutionary War

Can anyone help me find info about John Hale born about 1753-1754 in Bedford County, VA.? I found this at http://genealogytrails.com/tenn/revwarsoldiers.html

JOHN HALE

John Hale applied for Revolutionary pension in 1833 while living in Bledsoe County, Tenn. He was born in Bedford County. Va. in 1753 or 1754. He enlisted in Bedford County. Va.. in 1776. He volunteered in Capt. Harry Bluford's Company. Lieut. John Frields, Ensign Abram Sharp. They marched to the Cherokee Country and were in the battle of Long Island. He was discharged and returned home. He went to school and re-enlisted under Capt. Charles Watkins. He had 24 months' service in all. His discharge was burned in Blount County in 1803. After the War he moved to Wythe County, Va.. then to Greene County, Tenn.. to Washington County, Tenn., to Blount County, Tenn. and then to Bledsoe County about 1813.

I think my gg grandfather John Hale was born about 1815 in Wyhte County, VA. He married Sarah Fawbush (born 1822 in Sullivan Tenn.) about 1840. My gg grandfather and his spouse Sarah are listed in the 1860 census in Magoffin County, KY.

Could this John Hale born 1753-1754 in Bedford County, VA be related to my gg grandfather?

Thanks for any help.

John Hale
Roberts/Holloway Lane Battle

I am researching James Roberts who was killed piloting men across Walden's Ridge during the Civil War. I found a small article at the library in Bledsoe Co stating that there were approximately 100 men with him. I would appreciate any info regarding this battle or any info about James Roberts.

Thanks

Walker Family of Hardin County, Kentucky and Coles County, Illinois

Walker Family of Hardin County, Kentucky and Coles County, Illinois.

Thru my migration pattern studies I have the opportunity to gather information on other family members who are not directly related to me. Though this information is not useful to me it may be to others who may not have access to all the census information.

I make no guarantee as to how accurate this information may be it is taken from the available census and marriage records that I have access to, as well and an analysis of other bits of information and family relationships. Without Wills and inside family information it is impossible to prove this information so it should be used as a guide only.

Some family members may have been left out, and most of the time I only tracked the male members of the family in the latter census years. The early census records generally have the female members of the family as I use this information to track all the family members on the census page.

I have listed where the family can be found on the census years, with County, State, and City if known as well as the page and household #. It is my hope that this work will be of help to those who may not have the resources to pay for the various services.

Please feel free to add your comments to this work or contact me with any questions as to why I drew the conclusions that I did with the family grouping.

Good luck and happy researching

Brian Walker bwalker41@hotmail.com
Tracing our past thru our migration patterns

Descendants of Stanley Brown Walker

Generation No. 1

1. Rev Stanley Brown1 Walker was born Bet. 1785 - 1790 in Kentucky, and died Bet. 1838 - 1840 in Illinois. He married (1) Mary Owens 29 Dec 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. She was born 1794 in Kentucky, and died Bef. 1830. He married (2) Unknown Abt. 1825 in Unknown.

Notes for Rev Stanley Brown Walker:
1810 United States Federal Census Kentucky Hardin Elizabethtown

Found on page # 317 Line # 19

Stanly Walker household 00100101 One male 16-25 One female 0-9 one female 10-15

From the census information above we can assume that Mary Owens was about 15 in 1809 when Stanley Walker married her. we can also assume that the young child is about 1 at the time of this census.

==============================================================

1820 United States Federal Census Kentucky Hardin Little York

Found on page # 24 Line # 2

Stanley B Walker household 4000101101 Four males 0-9(Benjamin 1813, John abt 1812, Richard abt 1813,William 1815) One male 26-44 One female 0-9 One female 10-15 One female 26-44 (Mary 1794)

==============================================================
1830 United States Federal Census Indiana Perry Clark

Found on page # 306 Line # 12

Stanley Walker household 10130010000000110101 One male 0-4 One male 10-14 (William 1815) Three males 15-19 (John 1812, Richard 1811, Benjamin 1813)One male 40-49(Stanley) One female 5-9 one female 10-14 one female 20-29 one female 40-49

NOTE per the census information from the early census Mary Owens Walker would have been about 36 years old in 1830, the above information does not fit her age. I believe that she died before this census, and that Stanley remarried another woman.

This also would account for the gap in the children with the last boy being born between 1826 and 1830.

NOTE per the land deed below Stanley Walker must have left Indiana for Coles County Illinois, and to the Hutton community, between 1831 and 1832
==============================================================
Introductory Remarks about the Community of the Wiley Brick School District.
Coles County, Illinois

First Settlers

Henry P. Engle seems to have been the first to have taken up land within the district. Not much is known about him, but he must have been related to the Engles who lived about over Hutton Township in later years. Henry Cox lived and owned the Engle land. Whether Engle built the house or one before the one Henry Cox lived in, is not known.
James and Anthony Cox were brothers it seems and were some of the first settlers. Adam Cox who took up the second entry, which was in 1833 was also a brother. This entry is known now as the Stephen Sargent homestead, who traded Richard Easton out of it. There was an old log house on it when Sargent got it, whether Adam Cox or Richard Easton built it, it not known.
Richard Easton was quite a prominent man in this part of the country when it was new. He originally came from Kentucky and was said to be a great hunter and land judge. Pioneers came to him for information about land. He lived in Clark County before coming into what is now Hutton Township. He served on several road commissions for surveying and laying out new roads. One of them was the road which started at Richwoods, a settlement east of where Westfield is now, and angled south west, to strike the National Road, near where Greenup is located at present. This road crossed the Sargent farm, and the old imprint of the road can be located just west of the Stephen Sargent home, in the woods, and north of the John Sargent home going down through the woods. It was near where the old Wiley Brick school house first stood, which was built of logs. This building possibly was located on this road. Then it angled on through the Goble neighborhood.
Down in the Hutton neighborhood the marks of the road can be seen but it must not be confused with the old road known as "The Pinhook Road" which came over near Salisbury. Oakland at one time was called Pinhook. This road angled south west from Pinhook, and was a much more used road than the other.
As this road which Richard Easton helped to lay out crossed the old York Road about where the ditch is, north west of the Stephen Sargent home about two hundred yards, it looks as though Easton rather expected there might be a chance of this being an important crossing, and this may have had some bearing on his taking out land in this immediate vicinity, in fact the forty where they cross.
Richard Easton had a large family and several of the boys entered land about the neighborhood. He finally removed across the Embarrass River, over in what is now Pleasant Grove Township. He may have died there as some of his children lived there. He was the progenitor of the Easton family in Hutton and Coles County.
Reason Wiley was one of the large families who emigrated to a point south west of Paris, which was the first settlement in Edgar County. Here the family lived for a few years, then removed to what is now called the Dudley neighborhood south west of Ashmore, where several of them settled and died. Another brother Samuel Wiley lived in an old log house in the Dudley neighborhood and he and his wife Hester were buried in the Wells cemetery near there. They were the great-great-great-grand parents of Loren Lee.
Reason Wiley lived in a log house which stood south of the road on what is now known as the John Richardson farm. This Wiley family are buried in the old cemetery on the creek bank about half mile north of where this house stood, know as the Stewart cemetery.
Owen Wiley a son of the Reason Wiley, also lived and owned this farm. He was a Captain in the Civil War of K Company, which was mostly recruited from Hutton Township. This Company was a part of the 123rd Regiment, which had the distinction of being one of the few regiments in Wilder's Brigade, the only brigade to be armed with Spencer rifles in the Army of the Cumberland under General Thomas. It was a mounted infantry brigade, and theirs was a brilliant service, as they were called upon to do much special service.
They were thrown into a gap during the battle of Chickamauga, when the boys in gray were about to route the Union Army. General Longstreet who commanded the Division which was pressing boys in blue at this point, said he never saw men stand more firm than Wilder's Brigade did at that time. The men of Wilder's Brigade were placed about fifteen feet apart and their repeating Spencers made it very hot for the Rebels, so much that several charges were repulsed and time given for the Union Army to get organized.
From this battle the Brigade was taken out and sent after General Wheeler who had a large body of cavalry and was creating havoc in the rear of the Union forces. They soon drove Wheeler back across the Tennessee line after the battle of .
In 1871 Owen Wiley was elected sheriff of Coles County. Later on he removed to Casey, Illinois, where he died and was buried in the cemetery there.
The school was named after the Wiley family, also the church and cemetery.
Nathaniel Lee was a member of a family who first came from Virginia or New Jersey. It was a large family and all the Lee families of Coles and Clark Counties came from this one. He was the great-great-grand father of Loren Lee.
Peter Garrison who lived on the line along the south side of section eleven was one of the early settlers and was a pioneer doctor, as was his wife, who practiced after Mr. Garrison's death.
Burgess Burkley lived outside the school district, but owned land within it. He was the progenitor of the Berkley family. He first came from Culpeper County Virginia, and was of the same family in that state which was so prominent in its early colonial history.
The Walker family was a large one in the early history of Hutton Township. There were several branches, more or less related, living in the locality. Stanley B. Walker was a preacher of the Baptist faith and his activity was not negligent, but comprehensive.
==============================================================
Names

Patentee: STANDLEY B WALKER

Survey

State: ILLINOIS , Clark County
Acres: 40
Metes/Bounds: No

Title Transfer

Issue Date: 9/1/1834
Land Office: Palestine
Cancelled: No
U.S. Reservations: No
Mineral Reservations: No
Authority: April 24, 1820: Sale-Cash Entry (3 Stat. 566)

Document Numbers

Document Nr.: 3575
Accession/Serial Nr.: IL0400__.088
BLM Serial Nr.: IL NO S/N

==============================================================
Names

Patentee: STANDLEY B WALKER

Survey

State: ILLINOIS, Coles County.
Acres: 38.05
Metes/Bounds: No

Title Transfer

Issue Date: 9/20/1838
Land Office: Palestine
Cancelled: No
U.S. Reservations: No
Mineral Reservations: No
Authority: April 24, 1820: Sale-Cash Entry (3 Stat. 566)

Document Numbers

Document Nr.: 4687
Accession/Serial Nr.: IL0420__.190
BLM Serial Nr.: IL NO S/N

Note deed states the name Stanley Brown Walker of Clark County Illinois.
==============================================================

More About Rev Stanley Brown Walker:
Residence: 1810, Kentucky Hardin Elizabethtown

More About Stanley Walker and Mary Owens:
Marriage: 29 Dec 1809, Hardin County, Kentucky

More About Stanley Walker and Unknown:
Marriage: Abt. 1825, Unknown

Children of Stanley Walker and Mary Owens are:
2	i. The reasons for this are many but in part is due to the fact that both of her brothers are listed on the same census page as the latter Richard Walker as well as all of the above names mentioned in the land deed records.

John W Fuqua is listed on line # 17 of the 1840 census just above John Walker and brother Richard Walker. I know that various researchers will not agree with this information, but under such a cloud of witnesses I find that this information is more then ample proof to this effect.

Both of these Richard's are believed to have died before the 1850 Census in Coles County, Illinois

To further this cause a look at the 1840 census and the other names listed on ajoining property shows

Line 13 of the census Anthony Cox
Line 20 George Cox, Married Nancy Parker, Anthony Cox being the elder
Line # 7 Caleb Sumner
Line # 8 Alfred Sumner, Caleb being the elder
Line 21 William Weaver
Line # 30 Isham Fuqua (Brother to Richard Walker's wife)
Line # 17 John W fuqua (Brother to Richard Walker's wife)
Line # 18 John Walker ( married Harriet E Parker)
Line # 19 Richard Walker (married Sophia Fuquay ie Fuqua)
Line # 21 Nathan Austin who would later marry the widow of John Walker listed above. She was Harriet Parker. Nathan Austin first married Lucinda Parker who was the sister to Harriet. Lucinda died around 1840 shortly after the census
Line # 23 H W Walker ( Henry W Walker unknown relation to the above Walker,s)
Line # 3 George Parker ( John Walker married Harriet Parker) Benjamin A Walker married Marina Parker.
Line # 5 David A Parker son of the above George Parker.
Line # 1 Ichabod Lee who married Angeline Parker daut of George parker
The above information gives ample proof to this family full of ties. I have done plat maps for these family members and as stated they are as listed
==============================================================
Names

Patentee: BENJAMIN A WALKER

Survey

State: ILLINOIS , Coles County.
Acres: 40
Metes/Bounds: No
Title Transfer

Issue Date: 8/10/1838
Land Office: Palestine
Cancelled: No
U.S. Reservations: No
Mineral Reservations: No
Authority: April 24, 1820: Sale-Cash Entry (3 Stat. 566)

Document Numbers

Document Nr.: 7613
Accession/Serial Nr.: IL2890__.087
BLM Serial Nr.: IL NO S/N
=============================================================
1840 United States Federal Census Illinois Coles Not Stated

Found on page # 29 of 106 Ancestry.com.
Keedy Marriages

Hello,
I am researching the Keedy family from Bledsoe county. My mother was Alice Keedy, the daughter of Grover C. Keedy from Orange County Indiana. Grover Keedy was the son of William Keedy and William was the son of John Joseph Keedy and Jane Whitley. John Joseph married Jane in Orange County Indiana but Jane was his second wife. I believe John was married in Bledsoe County around 1807 give or take a few years. I am fairly certain that John was one of the sons of Ludwig [Lewis] Keedy. Ludwig came to Bledsoe County from Cabin Creek, Lewis County KY after 1800 and before 1810. He had come to Maryland from Germany as a boy in 1847. His wife was Catherine Welty from York County, PA. I know that John's oldest son Lewis married Polly Boone from TN.
I have heard that the early marriage records were stolen and I am hoping that someone on this board can give me more information about the Keedys. My mother's father died 5 months before my mother was born and we never knew any Keedys other than my mothers sisters.
Thank you for any help you might be able to give me. I expect to be in Pikeville next week to see what I can learn so I will take any advice you can offer.
Regards,
Alice

I was wanting any information on Edley Brock from Bledsoe County, TN. I am not sure if he is originally from Bledsoe County because in some records he was living in White County, TN. He was married to Neppie J. Higgenbottom and together they had 12 children including: William Brock, Arthur Martin Brock, Walter J. Brock, Bessie Brock, Wesley Brock, Hettie Mae Brock (my grandmother), Eddie Brock, Ernest Brock, Daniel Brock, Maggie Brock, Gail Brock, and Arnold Brock. Edley was born in 1871 and died in 1956 as far as I know. His father's name was Martin V. Brock. If anyone has any information please post or email at ca231@charter.net. Thanks.

William Henry Johnson was born July 29, 1881 in Nashville, TN. A William Johnson, born 1881 appears in the 10th District of Bledsoe County TN 1900 census. William is listed as single, boarding with George Dyer, age 27 and his wife Addie L., age 21. On the same page is Edgar Johnson.

William Henry Johnson moved to Aiken County, SC in the early 1900's and married a few years later. I have a copy of his death certificate and it list both parents as unknown.

Any information on anyone mentioned in this post would be greatly appreciated.

Richard Johnson
SC

Horn/Bowman Family of Bledsoe County, TN. Reunion

The Horn family was in Bledsoe county from 1800 (maybe a year or two earlier). They had moved there from Greene County, TN. where they are found in the mid 1790s. After my 4th Great Grandfather (Jacob Horn Sr.) died in Pikeville shortly after 1850, much of the family moved to MO.

The Bowman family lived in Greene County and several moved to Bledsoe when the Horn's did. John and Elizabeth Bowman were my 5th Great Grandparents. Elizabeth's maiden name was Sevier. We have a bill of sell where she sold her husbands farm after he past away in 1810 and it reads "Elizabeth Sevier Bowman." Their daughter, Rheumy, (spelled many different ways) married my 4th Great Grandfather, Jacob Horn and moved to Bledsoe County to raise their children.

I seen where there is a "Horn Branch" creek/rd down by Bowman Cemetery in the South tip of the county, South of Pikeville. I was wondering if any of my family is still living around that area at all? I have met many of my cousin's while researching my family and we are thinking about putting a Horn/ Bowman family reunion together somewhere around Pikeville. Maybe at Fall Creek falls.

Please email me, KimberleyFram@AOL if you are interested, family member, or know any of our family members who might be interested.

Thank you for any information you may be able to help us with.

Sincerely,

Kimberley Horn Fram

Hello Tennessee, I seek EADY MORGAN GULLETT born 1802 unknown county TN and married Bledsoe CO.TN in 1832 at age 30. I am looking to find her in the 1830 census living in her father's house-she should be 28 years old. In the 1820 census she should show up as 18 and the 1810 census as 8 years old. Does anyone know this young lady's family? She was born and died in TN and raised all her children in TN.
------------possibility------------
There is a family in the 1830 census for Fayette Co.TN showing Hiram S. Morgan and his household of:

4 males under age 5,
1 male age 5 and under 10,
2 males of age 20 and under 30 and
one male 30 and under 40.
Females:
2 females under age 5
1female 5 and under 10
1 female 15 and under 20
1 female 20 and under 30 and
1 female 40 and under 50
analysis:
6 children under age 5? and 8 children total under age 10 thats a plethora!
three men of marriage age and three women of marriage age

*I am seeking EADY MORGAN born 1802 unknown county TN who married in Bledsoe Co. in 1832 to a GULLETT and lived in Overton, Putnam, and Gallatin Co's. HOPING TO FIND her in her father's house before marriage. Hiram seems too young to be father Morgan.

this family of Hiram S. MORGAN seems more to be a brother of my Eady Morgan--uncle or cousin? Does anyone have Hiram or Eady in their data? thanks. Judy
