Classification: Query
Surnames: Keith, Hackworth,
(This forty acres of land noted in the previous post was originally in White Co and was bought by John Burden on June 24 1814 and sold to Nichodemus Keith on Dec 24 1829 by Jesse Oden, administrator of John Burden for 160.00. The sale was registered on this date but not recorded until Dec 29 1832 in McNairy Co TN in Book A pg 69.) Then the land was sold from Nichodemus Keith to Issac Hicks in 1830 for 50.00. I believe that the Hicks have a connection to the extended Hackworth family but do not have the time to dig that out. Please note that Austin Hackworth Jr witnessed this deed. Augustus Austin Hackworth Sr, born ca 1746-47, died 1846, was married to Ruth Keith (Keeth, as his grandchildren and great grandchildren indicated on the Indian Claims for Reimbursement Applications listed in the Guion Miller Rolls of 1906-8). Augustus Austin was in Bedford Co Va when he entered the Rev War, later lived in Old Buncomb Co NC for several years before moving to Knox and Anderson Co TN before settling in Marion Co TN, next to Bledsoe Co. He and Ruth are buried in the Condra Cemetery in Marion Co TN. He and Ruth named two of their sons Nichodemus and Gabriel, after whom I believe to be her brothers, Nichodemus of TX and Gabriel Keith, who remained in Old Buncomb Co NC. They also named a son Samuel and there was a Samuel Keith in the Battle of Point Pleasant with Augustus Austin Hackworth who lived in several of the same areas in which are found the others. In 1815 0n a Bledsoe Co Tn petition are listed David, Ely, Nichodemus, James, Stephen and another James Keith. There are several deeds, and other court records in some of the above mentioned counties, which show ties between these families. In my research, I find that often families of different surnames moved together to different area and intermarried. I could go on but don't have time to write a book this morning. Hopefully this will give someone some leads that they would be willing to share with me. PS. Ruth Keeth is sometimes listed as Mary Ruth Keeth but I have found no documentation of that. I would be happy to hear from anyone with further info on these families. Thank you. Shirley Landen
