Hello :-)
know its a while since you wrote Your Message. But i know i little bit about Your ancestors from Hoiland. I live about 7 km from the area.

I am looking for my grandfathers granduncle, and while looking around i found out that there has been a Connection With Adolf and Rasmus Josund (jaasund) and they were related With Taaim Stokke. Adolph was his uncle, he was married to Karen Tollefsen Stokke. Karen died before Adolph went to Cathay, North Dakota.

I am looking for Anton Theodor Stokka, but he is not related to them. But his father were married to Taaims aunt after his mother died. I know that he were in contact With the Jaasunds, because there are some papers they were witness to. (from Cathay 1895)

Its quite complicated, but i hope i hear from you.

Best regards Toni

Siri Jukam was my great-great grandmother. I believe her husband, my great-great grandfather died before they were supposed to leave Norway. She came over anyway with my great-grandfather and his siblings. My great-grandfather was Ole Jukam (married to Ingeborg Gloppestad) and my grandfather was Clarence Jukam.

Hope that helps. I don't have any dates, but could possibly find them.

Bernt's wife Caroline was married before, and according to census Charles her son and Bernt's son in law came with her to miner. Anton is my grandfather and cannot remember also if Bernt had blue or brown eyes? Does your husband recall? Thanks much!

I have never tried to understand the genetics of eyes, so just guessing that blue-eyed parents don't always get blue-eyed kids. If you check the SD Births website I mentioned, you can find that Anton(1885), Clara(1889), & Adolph(1893) are recorded as children of Bernt & Karen(Caroline).

Great help thanks! The census's are often wrong by a few years, so my great grandfather Anton is in question if he is related by blood to Bernt. You see Bernt was blue eyed so some pictures show and Caroline was blue eyed and Anton and other kids were not. Hard to say for sure. Thanks again!

Alison.....I forgot to tell you that it seems Charles seems to have disappeared from easy tracing after 1900. I think Ben married Margaret Poppen and lived in surrounding counties of Kingsbury, Sanborn, & Lake.
Now something interesting..... I think I found your Johnson family in Minnesota. In 1880 at Hayward, Freeborn Co.(near Albert Lea)lived Ole and Caroline, with sons Charles & Bernhart. ....... Maybe Ole died there, or they moved to SD and Ole died at Carthage, but without a gravestone. I think last night I saw a Poppen family tree on Ancestry.com, but without membership I can't get into it. But it is possible to contact the owner of that tree for further info.
Bill Feller

Alison....I was not raised in the Carthage area of Miner Co, so I never knew anyone from there.
It looks like you are not familiar with census images. Periodically, when we have time, we subscribe for a month or so of Ancestry.com. Then we have full access to all censuses as well as SD full info on SD marriages. Currently we do not. But I still have some access. Normally i have had to use an access code, but lately I have been able to get census images freely at www.heritagequestonline.com . Always free online are SD births over 100 yrs. Just google that. If you google SD marriages, you can find marriages 1905-1949. But full info is only availabe with Ancestry.com subscription.
That being said, I did some looking. The 1900 census has "Bert" Anderson with Caroline and children - Anton Anna, Clara, Eddie, & Adolph, as well as stepson Charles Johnson. They were married 16 years, with Anton being 15. So it is obvious those 5 were Bernt's. The census shows that Caroline bore 7 children and 7 were living. I think she misunderstood the question, since a gravestone at Zion Cem for Sophie says she is daughter of Bernt, died in 1897. So it is hard to say for sure how many chilren Caroline had with Bernt. Then in 1910 census, Caroline says she bore a total of 12, with 7 living.
Besides Charles Johnson, i'm thinking Caroline had a son Ben(hart), who was a hired man living near the Andersons in 1900. I'm just guessing, since he was also born in Minnesota(same as Charles). .....But with limited census I can't find them in 1880 MN Census. Both Charles & Benhart are buried in Pleasant View Cem near Carthage.
I noticed Bernt was living with his daughter Clara & husband Otto Wulf at Harlingen, TX in 1920. You apparently know their movement after that. ....It looks like Bernt's other daughter Anna married a Morrell and is also buried at Pleasant View Cem.
Hope some of this helps.
Bill Feller
Thanks! I know the Bernt I am related to was buried in Swisher Texas but Anton and Caroline and Sylvester I think were all buried in Carthage. Did you know the family at all? We always wondered who Caroline was married to before and if all the kids were from prior marriage or Bernt's. Her eldest Charlie was proven from a prior marriage, but unsure if any other kids were too. Thanks much! Alison

I am not at all related to your Anderson/Johnson family. I did grow up in Miner County. I am not sure I follow just who was married to whom. But I can provide photos of existing gravestones at Zion Luth Cem at Carthage, as well as from Pleasant View Cem near Carthage. It seems there may be some burials without gravestones, such as Bernt, Anton, and Sylvester. My photos of all gravestones at the various cemeteries in Miner County may be seen at www.southdakotagravestones,org.
Bill Feller

Hi Don,

I know this thread is very old, but wondered if you are still in washington? I live in Everett, Washington and so does my mother's family. My mother's mother was Dorathy Anderson, and her father was Anton Anderson and his father was Bernt Anton Anderson. Ellen who you were communicating with is my 2nd cousin and we lost her contact info. In short, Bernt was my great great grandfather. I would love ANY info you have. Feel free to contact me at awishart78@gmail.com

Thanks much!
Alison

I would love the pictures too if you have them? Ellen is my 2nd cousin and my family have lost her contact info. My great ,great grandfather was also Bernt Anton Anderson who had Anton Anderson and was married to Caroline Johnson. There has always been speculation as to if Bernt was really the father or the kids are from a prior marriage as Caroline was married before and we knew of a Charles Johnson that lived with Bernt and her for sometime, but nothing more. Any info/& pictures are greatly appreciated! You can also email me @ awishart78@gmail.com. Thanks! Alison

I believe that his family came from Hedmark, but I don't think the parish registers have been digitized for their area and time (Konsvinger, Brandval, Glåmdal?) Brede's father, also named Brede, was b. 12 Jan. 1822, Konsvinger, & d. 9 Oct. 1905, bu. Glenwood Lutheran, Winneshiek Co., IA. Ancestry says that Brede, b. 1822, was son of Brede ERICHSEN, b. 1779, & Ann LARSDTR., b. 1784. Some list mother of Brede, b. 1848, as Anna Gurine HUUSMOE, & some list her as Karen HUSEBY. The latter might be an Americanized version of the sane name. Karen HUSEBY is listed (11 Jan. 1821, Brandval, Hedmark - 2 Aug. 1868, Winneshiek, IA).

--not my family

Hi....I am not related at all but grew up in Miner County near the Jukams, Eides, etc. Just recently I saw(had lunch with, etc) Sharon Eide Weinel. I believe she even mentioned her grandma Sander(Siri, i presume). Sharon mother was Bertha, one of siri's daughters. And Sharon has a daughter Siri. ...We are at Howard for another day or 2, so I went to the Miner Co Pioneer newspaper office. I was able to find the obit you are looking for, which should be attached. .....BTW, it seems you did not live here, since you referred to Graft, Miner, SD. It is actually Grafton township. ....Also, photos of all the gravestones at Belleview(as well as surrounding cems) are posted at www.southdakotagravestones.org .
Bill Feller

Hello,
Martha Ellen Osborn(e) "Aunt Mattie" is the younger sister of my Grandmother Emma Arillis Osborn. My Mother always referred to Martha Ellen Osborn as "Aunt Mattie."

On the 23 February 1892, Elizabeth (Osborn) Cochren, age 33, living in Wyoming, Illinois stated “that she is the daughter of William Osborn, and Mary Osborn, the above-named claimant. [(Mary (Hamilton) Osborne was the claiment.] That she was living at home at the time of the birth of her sister Martha. NOTE:This was found in the pension request of their Mother Mary (Hamilton) Osborn whose husband (William) was killed in an accident. William and Mary (Hamilton)Osborn are my Great-Grandparents and lived for a short time within a few miles of where I reside. They then moved to Wyoming in Stark County, Illinois.
Hello, I am a descendant of the Snedeker's in Carthage, SD. I don't recall of ever hearing the name Mattie. I do know William was my Great grandfather x2. The only thing I can think of is that Mattie may be a sibling to my Gr grandpa Antone, who had 12 children.
