Emma Johnson Olson 1851-1932

I'm looking for anyone from the family of Emma Johnson Olson who might be able to help me determine if she is indeed my grgrandfather's sister. Gudjon W. Johnson was born Sep 1853, believed to be the son of Jon Stephansson and Astridur Jonsdottir. Gudjon had a brother named Ole and a aister named Solveig who the family knew as "Sola". I've found no trace of that name in Watertown but my grandfather, Einer Johnson, knew that his dad's sister Solveig "Sola" married twice...once to a Johnson and again to an Olson. Emma's history is clear that she married first Steve Johnson and then Ole S.B. Olson. My mother's cousin, Cleo Olson Glascock, was the known daughter of Sola's son Albert Olson. My only conclusion is that the lady in Watetown, known as Emma Olson was named Solveig Johnson and is my grgraunt.
Can anyone confirm this? I believe I have pictures of her and would like to compare them with others if anyone has any which could be compared. I would love to connect with anyone who knows this family.
Thank you, Jean Bailey Copple

Do you know where Herman and Mary were from? I'd love to get more details on your ancestors. Do you have any stories to tell?

I'm looking for any descendents who may have family photos of my grandparents from South Shore, SD. Their children were Helena, Hilda, Anna, Otto and Anna. I never met my grandparents and would very much like to see photos. Otto was my father. I only have adult photos of him, so any photos of the children would also be appreciated. This is my first time using the message board, and I do not know if I'm using it correctly, or if I'm posting in the right place. If you are a descendent and have any information, please contact me. Thanks!

I am a direct descendant of Ferdinand Zielsky and Louisa Luebka. Their son Frederick August Zielsky (b 20 May, 1864...d 16 Dec 1951) was my father's grandfather. Please look at my Gibbs Family tree on acenstry.com as it should illustrate this fact.

My grandmother's maiden name was June Fern Zielsky and married a Gibbs.

I would love to trade any information. I even have old original letters from F.A. Zielsky that my dad kept and passed on to us, his sons.

The marriage record for Olaf Sjolie (1879) and Cora Fryslie indicates that Olaf was a widower! He must have been married once before. I have been told someone found a marriage record for Olaf and Anna B T Herramb in 1909. I know that Anna Herramb died young. I can't find this record in the SD marriage records - maybe it is in the county records. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathy

FamilySearch.org has the 1900 census, with the family indexed SJALIE, of Cottonwood, Clark Co., SD, all b. Norway
SJOLIE, Ole L., b. Oct. 1834, married 38 years, imm. 1889
Wf. Eline, b. Aug. 1837, had 7 ch., 6 living
Ch. Olaf, b. Oct. 1876; Inga, Aug. 1879
Also a boarder in the household.

Olaf is on censuses of 1905, 1910, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1935. He said he immigrated in 1890 & 1891, married in 1914 & 1915 to Cora FRYSLIR [FRYSLIE?]

Google "Olaf Sjolie Biography." Bio. from History of Dakota Territory, by George W. KINGSBURY, 1915, says Olaf was born 22 Oct. 1878, but the 1900 census said 1876. It also says the family came to South Dakota in 1892 [1889?], to Bradley, where his father purchased land. It also says he went to Stanley County, but BLM says Jackson. He married 21 May 1914, Cora FRYSLIE, daughter of Anton of Vienna.

Religion was Lutheran. One census said he was naturalized and another said he was not. He must have been if he Homesteaded. Google BLM +"land patents." Ole L. & Olaf Homesteaded in Jackson Co., SD, patents issued in 1907.

--not my family

Thank you so much, Jo. I'm trying to demonstrate how closely the architectural style the Kranzburg settlers selected for their church replicates what they left behind in the Eifel. Holy Rosary looks very much like the churches in Speicher and Erdorf, in the area where so many of the Kranzburg families originated. I have an old historic sepia shot, but I'd like to use a modern digital color photo if possible. I can't locate one on the web, and I've looked everywhere. I've also compared St. Mary's, the church the settlers all attended in New Trier, Minnesota, with the church in Prum in the Eifel. It is an amazing comparison. Check it out on Panoramio. I appreciate whatever you can do. My e-mail: kathleentsa@aol.com.

In the 70's we lived in Hamlin Co. in rural Hayti,SD. Three miles from us lived 3 Everding families. Charles and Elsie, William and Bertha and Henry. They were all farmers and pretty well up in their years. William and Bertha had 2 children a son and a daughter and they both lived in Brookings, SD. Henry was never married. and I don't remember anything about Charles' children. We use to get eggs from William and Bertha. I don't think any of them are alive today. They are not in the phone book.

Did you see that the Everdings were in the 1930 census in Hamlin Co, SD, just south of Lake Township, Codington Co?
I have checked most cemeteries in Codington Co, so I presume Albert was buried in Hamlin Co. I don't have many records in Hamlin Co. But I would strongly suggest if you want to make contact with descendants of Albert, you should find an Everding in South Dakota in WhitePages.com. there is a William, Sr in Hayti(Hamlin Co), Possibly Albert's son Willie, and other Everdings not far away. Everding is not a common name in SD, so i think all are descended from Albert.
I have no connection to this family.

Re. last line of previous comment, "In 1880, Levi was of Albion, Howard, IA, with large family including mother Lizzie CURKLING." Lizzie Curkling was Lizzie (or Eliza) KIRKLAND. Maiden name Frost, first husband John Sumner, second (or third?) husband was Alexander Kirkland of Winneshiek County, Iowa.

Some of the children appeared in the 1860 census in Canoe, Winneshiek Co, IA with an Eliza ARNOLD. I have not been able to determine whether Eliza Arnold is Eliza Frost/Sumner/Kirkland, but the other circumsntances around this person don't rule out it being her. (Several of the children also appear with Eliza ARNOLD in the 1857 Minnesota census in Olmsted County, MN.)

I have done extensive research on the Sumner branch of the family and am happy to provide more information if you want it.

Have you checked the Watertown Regional Library website? You should be able to find a contact for the Wat Reg Genealogical Society. They should have someone who might be willing to help you find more info. Meanwhile, here is a link to some of their database containing info you may already know about the Springers. http://watweb.sdln.net/cemeteries.html

My grandmother was Nora Bell Perrin Springer married to Charles Richard Springer, the son of Richard and Alice Springer. Nora died in child birth. Their children are Arthur, Evelyn, Madaline and Alvin (Bud) born in 1922. So the Nora Bell Springer was not an infant but most likely my grandmother. My father was Arthur Howard Springer. The only one of their children still living is Alvin. Please let me know if there is anyway I can get any of the information on the Springer family, it is hard to get any recent history, meaning from my grandfather back. Please contact me to let me know. If you would like to contact me other than through this site, my e-mail is Kari1946@aol.com thank you.
