No wonder the family members couldn't remember her husband's last name. :-)
This is from the
South Dakota Marriage Index:
Name: Martha
Broer Age: 24
Gender: Female
Spouse: Paul Carl Brzezowski
Marriage Date: 2 Feb 1924
Marriage County:
Brookings County of Residence:
Beadle Post Office:
Huron A look at a copy of the original (at Ancestry.com) shows that Paul was age 27, a bachelor, and lived in
Huron. Martha also lived in
Huron. The clergyman performing the marriage was R.C. Keagy, M.E. Clergyman. Also, it appears that Paul's last name might be spelled Brzezonsky or Brzezousky. It definitely is a Y at the end of the name and not an I as the index showed. It is register #2247.
I didn't find a death record for Martha, but I did for Paul and it shows yet another spelling:
Name: Paul C Brzazowsky
Death Day: 11
Death Month: Jul
Death Year: 1930
County:
Beadle Page Number: 97
His date of death made me wonder if the family was remembering incorrectly...and that Paul was the one who died first. So I found them in the 1930 census for you:
1930
Huron,
Beadle, SD ED 25 sheet 31A 22 Apr 1930
1176
Wisconsin Avenue
461 461 Brzazowsky, Paul C., owns $3500, age 34, md at age 27 WI WI WI construction work, state highway
Martha wife 31, md at age 24, IA Germany Germany
I didn't find her remarrying in SD.
Hope this is of some help.
